Is it advisable to do a tune up or do I need to go for a full inspection.

I get this sound when I start the car in the morning or after hours long parking. The sound is from the engine bay, the noise is more from engine start til I take out my foot from the brake pedal, completely gone once I slightly press the accelerator. I mentioned this on my last car service at TL, Maharagama. they say it may be a engine miss. they would have inspected the brake pads, right, coz this sound is there even before I did the service.

Prius doesn't have a RPM meter, I guess its on low RPM. this sound comes only on a cold start, I don't get this sound when driving.

I re encoded it and tried to post directly, but there seems to be some size restrictions in place in AL which prevents me from uploading 640kb file, so I shared it from Google drive, https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B4R6P_Y0-_mAM1hsa3d0TS11Rk0/edit?usp=sharing

its only there when I start the car before I take out the leg from brake pedal, once I press the accelerator slightly the sound disappears completely. I just recorded it last evening and posted here. Voice 020.mp3

My car has done 69k so far. in terms of fuel also its doing quite well. however when I start the car, i hear a sound like rating when the engine warms up. when I asked Toyota Lanka they said to do the engine tune up & see. Since it is doing good on fuel and no difference in pulling power, would engine tune up help to resolve my problem. Anything other places to get an inspection done prior to go ahead with the tune up.?

I go to Kandy every weekend, mostly via Katunayake Highway > Kurunegala and weekdays Colombo city driving. So far I didn't notice any such drop in power, may be I've not paid much attention to that. I would sell it after another 2 years down the time.

I have a 3rd Gen Prius and the Insurance premium is 66k. they impose excess on battery after 5 years from the date of manufacturing Car has done 68k so far and averages around 18kmpl. recently it gave me 22+ milage (on one instance 26), so I guess that battery is functioning fine. the reason to buy hybrid is mostly the price advantage & the trend. With the full duty and cost a normal car of same category will cost much more than a hybrid, which should also be considered in comparing the overall benefit.

Hi my prius did 26kmpl from Kandy to Colombo last week, probably because the travel was on the downhill and i was driving at moderate speed. Manual calculations shows the best full-2-empty tank fuel economy of 19.04kmpl (best) and 16.72kmpl (worst) on Euro3 + A/C, mixed city, highway and long distance driving. Also I noticed about 5-10% error in the usage indicated in the display, 19.04kmpl calculated was indicated as 17.9kmpl on meter and 16.72kmpl was indicated as 15.9kmpl.

Toyota Prius, Honda Fit/ Vezel Recall Information
tinyman replied to osaka_dude's topic in General Automotive
Toyota Lanka already sent out invitation for a free s/w upgrade two week back, those who are registered with them would have got it. last time I checked the next appointment date available is 12 May. They don't do this upgrade on weekends. -
Is it possible for us to make a official complaint claiming such wear off is due to production defect/use of inferior quality components.

what do you meant by "Effective" fuel figures?.

No idea mate, so far that's the best I was able to achieve. I don't think i would be able to achieve anything more than that. May be switching off A/C might help.

I understand the fact that comparing prius with montero sport is not correct, but the other Montero I mentioned has done about 25,000km, but not faced any brake pad issues so far. Suspecting the driver was an option to me before purchasing the 2nd vehicle, which is driven by one of our senior manager, I don't think he would go to such extend to replace the original with inferior quality brake pads and sell the good one.

I once spoke to their maintenance manager and the person in charge of warranty claims, both sounded like that is normal and i'm making a fuss out of nothing. All the spares used are genuine Mitsubishi spares. Vehilces are new and I don't think anything to be wrong with odo meter readings.

1. All the vehicles I mentioned here are AT 2. Yes the vehicle is now on its 6th brake pad sets. 3. I didn't go into such details, all the replacements were done at Unimo at a cost of 18,000 per pair. 4. Initially I blamed the driver of the 1st vehicle but later the 2nd vehicle also came up for brake pad replacement in 10,000km, so now i assume nothing wrong with the driving style

Hi, there are two montero sports at my office with ODO at 45000km and 12000km. during the usage period of 45000km we happened to replace the brake pads 5 times and the vehicle with 12000km had front brake pads replaced once at 10000km. When I spoke to Uni**d Motors they say its normal as a brake pad is only expected to last from 10000km to 15000km distance. Meanwhile we have a montero 2013 and several prius cars, non of those giving trouble like this, one prius got a brakepad replacement only after 100,000km. What might be the reason for such wear-off.

We can't count on US political lobbies, as they penalize foreign especially Japanese and Chinese manufacturers with severe measures while rescuing and safe guarding the local manufactures saying those are too big to fail. GM's most recent recall due to ignition switch issue will not effect the company much although they knowingly withheld and did nothing on the issue since 2003. http://time.com/27951/gm-ceo-apology/

This is utter craziness, a car maker paying compensation to settle a probe is not a new thing, in fact this is relating to their 2009 massive recalls. thereafter toyota turn much proactive in dealing with defects and safety concerns. Its not only Toyota is recalling, others also do..in fact its a corrective approach to address the issues in as and when they are identified. I had the same issue with my van middle seat. Got a seat repair shop in Kandy to redo it. He removed the whole spring lock section and re-welded it with an identical new set. that thing standing solid for last 3-4 years. Afterwards I had a problem with the rotating mechanism, still couldn't find a place to repair it.

Me too, often during long stand in traffic lights, I just put on P and stay relaxed.
