Guys, I need to buy a tyre pressure gauge. None of the auto/tyre shops in Kandy got this gauge. Is it available in Colombo?. If so, please mention some shops!!! many thanks

Just a correction for my fuel consumption figure of Vios, After 6 recordings I got an average fuel consumption of Vios (Auto, sensible driving): 11.5 km/l in the city (kandy). Guys, i used the same filling station to minimize the error and used octane 90 petrol. By the way, earlier i found the filling station is also a factor that determines the fuel efficiency of your car (dont be surprised) vitz

According to the user manual of Vios, the engine oil changing interval is 10000 km (under normal conditions). But they recommend 5000km interval, if the vehicle is operated on dust roads. I think the latter applicable for us. As already discussed in this forum quit lot, it would be better to change the oil in 5000 km intervals or 3 months interval, whichever comes first. Guys, if anyone requires the Maintenance schedule of Vios, please let me know. I'll scan it and upload to the forum. regards vitz

" It did 10.5 Immediately after i had the air filter cleaned...but back to normal after the next fill up" This is an interesting point. Guys, it seems we can improve the fuel efficiency by practicing a regular cleaning of the air filter. Easily,,, we can use the home vaccum cleaner to do it....I should try it. My vios (A/T) does 9.4 km/l in the city. My daily route is peradeniya to kandy, get quite a traffic around the kandy lake. passangers: myself and my little one. i always try to keep the RPM less than 1500, 13.6 km/l outstation. Checked during a trip from madampe to wennapuwa vitz

Az, It is not that thick as the photo shows. I just cleaned using a cloth. Then, it became a thin orange color film. Anyhow, I will update after get it checked from the service station. regards

Thanks Rohnd, One more clarification, you mentioned that shorter trips can enhance sludge formation. How it can happen. If somebody daily having short trips (as I am: 4 -5 km oneway), can he minimize the risk by having shorter oil + filter changes done at short intervals, say 3 months... regards vitz

Nilantha,,,, Still I respect the opinions of others. Most of them have experienced it. Nobody got an evidence that the whole engine got busted due to this brownish staff appears in the oil filling area. Yesterday, I even saw another unregistered vios in the same sale got this brownish staff. Probably, this may not a big issue to be worried. Sometimes knowing bit is also problematic. I think many vios and corollas on the road with the similar issue. Let us see what will happen in the coming three months. Anyhow, I will remove the tappet cover and get it checked before taking further actions. thanks

Many thanks Rohnd and Gearhead for useful comments. Gearhead!!! rough quotation 25000 rs for workshop charges plus charges for spare parts.

Guys,,,Many thanks for replies... Today, I went to the dealer from whom I bought my car (2 weeks ago) and checked two other vios cars. Amazingly, none of these vehicles got this brownish staff. That made me really upset. Anyway life is like that......we are always not lucky. So...the seller was also quite upset about this matter and we took the car to the toyota service station in kandy,,,, apparently it was also closed. Then, i made call to toyota lanka, colombo, expecting to bring the vehicle there tomorrow. They said that it is an early stage of sludge formation and they need to dismantle the whole engine to clean it (as Jega said). But, also they told that it is okay to use it with oil and filter changes done at every three months. Also..toyota lanka told that they do not flush the engines. Since the dealer gave me a 1 year grantee for the engine, I thought to wait till the next service and open the tapat cover and further explore the damage..... let us hope the that the engine fault light will not appear soon................

Hi Milindu, Many thanks. Is he attached to Kunxxx auto. Can you give me his number, if possible. In the next service, I'll get it checked. regards
-
Nilantha,,, Out of my curiosity,,,, How did they clean...... By flushing out using a chemical or by disintegrating whole engine......
-
Bro, Since I am living in Kandy, quite difficult to go to colombo and get it checked. I serviced it with kundasale auto works, who are the agents of toyota lanka for central region. Anyhow i will bring it to the agents and get it checked. Nilantha,,,,,,you are scaring me....do you think that same thing is inside the engine where oil passes through. If so....will the engine work smoothly like i am now experiencing. regards
-
Thanks guys for sharing your experiences and knowledge with me. Your experiences worth thousand times more than the advices of technicians. As VVTi already mentioned, I'll let the engine to do its business with proper care. Since, the oil pressure lamp of my car go off just in a split second, I dont think there is any problem related to sludge. For the moment, the engine works really fine and to me it looked that my car has not much been used in Singapore. I'll update if i face any problem.

This is what i see after removing the engine oil filling cap. Bharath, Az, did you guys observed the same thing. Bharath, you are correct, the engine oil doesnot reach that far. So... what is then this stain, is it a deposition from the vapour of oil?. http://img24.imageshack.us/my.php?image=enginex.jpg

machan, I rechecked the oil can, it is 10W-30. Nilantha.... on what basis you are asking me to do an engine clean up. Have you got a similar experience?. Fuzzo.... any idea Anyhow, I will upload some shots.
-
I remember like the type of oil they use is 10W-30. I will, recheck it and confirm to you. I did the service from the toyota lanka agent in Kandy. Its quite expensive the basic service (cost around 6000 rs), but i think its reasonable since they use geniune spares. machang, what brand of oil filter you normally use. regards

Many thanks bro, Do you mean that once I start the engine, I have to wait till the blue water temp indicator goes off. Or keep the engine started for a particular time period. I do change the oil once in three monts. Machang my daily trip is mearly less than 20 km. So, it would be better to change the oil in that interval i suppose. In my first service done yesterday, they use toyota engine oil. i think it is a semi-synthetic. Is it okay to continue with that or better to change to fully synthetic?. thank for all who commented on my post vitz

Thanks machan, you relieved me from pain. I was really upset about that. I was too sure about the machine that is why i did not bring a technician before that. But, i was suffering alot about that decision. Today, what i saw in the toyota lanka further troubled me. They showed me a vios engine siezed by this sludge problem. Many thanks Bharath again,,,, vitz

Guys, Very recently I bought an unregistered vios (2005). When I inspected the engine after removing the oil filling cap, I noticed a brown colour substance in side the engine. It come to my finger when I rub it (this substance is not hard). Is that mean my car is suffering from sludge formation?. I went through the net and there are mixed comments on that. Anyhow, the simple theory they are presenting is that the oil filler cap test partly shows this problem. Guys, i am really really worried about this. The car performs really well, even i could see water droplets comming out from the exhaust. I did my first service from toyota lanka today. They are also inconclusive about that, but they said that in the next time they can add a liquid to clear it to some extent. Is this a suitable remady for that?. Guys, i will post some pictures soon. regards

Guys, My search for a second hand car ended always with disspointments. Finally, I got my un-registered Vios (2005 sep). Still, I have to recive the regististration number and waiting to explore my car. Fuzzo....it would be very helpful to me if you can give my some tips for maintaining this car. My deepest symphaties miniace

Many thanks Jega, Its a mistake, the price is 2.285 milion. The dealer has purchased Celyinco, so the maintainance was done by Stafford.

Guys, During yesterday's car hunt, I came across two ES8s (auto), one for 2.85 mil (manufactured 2001, registered in S L in 2005) and the other brand new 2003 which has done 94000 km. The second one gives a kind of "tak,,, tak" noise during the ride and the seller told us he sells it for 2.1 milion (100,000 less than the advertised price) due to this problem. Thanks to the past forum just i found that there is a serios issue on the stearing rack and the front suspension in ES8s, and now i am doubting that may be the case with the second vehical. Anyhow, I have to get those checked by a good machanic. Guys, my doubts are, 1. Are those stearing rack issues and supensions issues are too serious to change my choice, I am expecting to use this car for at least comming 3-4 years. 2. Those people in sales told that ES8s got a Vtec engine, I couldnot find anywhere in the engine it is mentioned. 3. There was a fit aria (sedan) for 2.1 milion (2003 year), it is better to consider this instead of ES8 ( though i dont like the shape of this vechical). please enlight me with your experince and views. vitz
