  1. Also, does any one of you noticed that, there is ship load of F10 5 series BMW that are only 2-3 years used are advertised on AL and other quick sites. IMHO there are more 2-3 year used F10 5 series for sale than Alto's. Is there a particular defect with this particular car as at a given moment, there may be as much as 50 used F10's for sale, whereas it is only in a blue moon that we get to see an E38 or a good E39. Yes, there is much more F10 on the road than older models, Yet still ?
  2. And who drives that beast ?, would love to hear the epic exhaust note of that one in person.
  3. You may be right. Mazda is reputed for driver oriented automobiles and as you said, they may still make cars that has genuine character and are fun to drive. Also super brands like Ferrari, maserati, A-Martins, maclarens seems to improve on that particular characteristic. But my view on the general aspects of the current automotive industry. Thanks for your contribution BTW.
  4. An excellent analysis on contemporary automotive industry and thank you for sharing that information. You have raised some very interesting points, especially I like your forecast on the possible destiny of modern electronically charged vehicles in couple of decades. And after you mentioned, I did a quick search on ebay for M3 E30. OMG, some are advertised for 50,000 quid, whereas current F30 M3 can be had for far less money. Need to get a good sample of my favorite, a 740il E38, before prices starts to increase here in SL.

  6. Thank you very much for the PM. OMG, I didn't knew we have an E60 M5 here in SL.
  7. Also, does that RARE version of E60 that you drove had over 500 BHP and is armed with a monstrous V10 engine, and does it sport particular badge that starts with the letter M ?
  8. M Most BMW enthusiasts seems to think that cars post E38 and E39 were underwhelming. E60 has loads of new tech (which I don't care much) and modern looks (which I might care a bit), but I agree E39 and E38 are timeless designs and their somewhat understated stance has ensured a cult following of car enthusiasts. IMHO, your quote of E39 being a more hands on than E60, could be due to that E39 has less tech and toys. etc. Before purchasing my S type, I have inspected 03 E39 (pre-facelift) and all three was not maintained well and needed lots of TLC, hence I stayed away. Soon after I have purchased my S Type, a gentleman offered me his minty 2000 E38 740IL for 2.3 mil, i still regret of not buying that one. Recently there was similar sample advertised for 2.85 mil on AL, which is also gone now. Do you happens to know a gentleman who intents to sell an E38 (740il - facelfit) ?
  9. Welcome to the discussion and thanks for your post. You must have great deal of experience with E39 to praise it such as most other E39 owners do. But, do you have any hands on experience with E39 and E38 (facelift iL models, post 98) and are you sure, E39 will provide a better experience than my S Type Jag as E39 is a 3-4 year older platform than the S Type (99 tech vs 95-96 tech) ? I have personally driven an E39 for once but the sample I drove was in bad condition, thus difficult for me to make any good comparison. Also what about E60, have you drove one and if you do, how does it fare against a facelifted E39 ?
  10. Yeah I agree, especially when sport mode is on and the right foot is floored, it is suddenly become a beast of a different breed. Also the exhaust note helps too to sell it as a sports luxury sedan
  11. You may have much more hands on experience with lots of cars than me. But according to my experience my S Type got good driving dynamics and as you said, very comfortable cruiser. It may not be up to the standard that what you considered as 'drivers's cars'. If you can point out several cars that you prefer to categorize as drivers cars, then that info will be helpful to many here in AL. Thanks for your comment BTW.
  12. First of all, I see you got a great taste with cars and I admire that, Second, is there a particular reason why you are in for a W211 E class. I know it is a luxurious and prestigious vehicle. But It may be slightly behind BMW or Jaguar in terms of driving dynamics. Regardless a great choice that I full recommend.
  13. Peugeot 406 is a nice car and it was on my wishlist 4-5 years ago when I wanted to buy my first car.
  14. Very emotional story and 100% agree that you won't get the same 'kick' from a Jap or indian car. Thatz a nice little car you got there and all the hardships that you underwent due to your car shown that, you truly are a genuine car enthusiast. Cheers.
  15. Hi Automobiles or cars as we used call them, has long become a commodity and are now mass produced trade items that aims to fulfill the automotive requirements of contemporary human beings, whose day to day routines IMHO, are much more sophisticated now and reflect the chaotic and busy social, economic aspects of modern societies. Due to such scenario, most of us has lost certain feel good factor and innocence that we had when we were growing up (applies more to people who have grown up in 80's and 90's). IMHO, the cars themselves too, whilst become state-of-the-art and technologically revolutionary by every passing year, has lost a certain character and enthusiasts who love cars manufactured in 90's or early 00's, may agree that, their cars has such personality and character, that most modern cars (even the current models of their favorite make) lacks and thus continues to TLC their cars with great dedication and soul. IMHO, For example, a BMW car manufactured in 90's (or early 00's) has such a timeless design aesthetics and driving a well maintained car will give the impression that, people who made that car has such attention to detail, workmanship, passion and are mostly assembled in original factory of the maker. Now a modern BMW for example is mostly put together by robots and are mass-produced items in countries like India or china (no offense to the countries) and during recent ride in a 2015 5 series, I got the impression that, whilst the Car is modern looking and dripping with latest technologies, it lacked that certain character that old ones had and I got the impression that some of the materials used in the new car may not be durable as the ones in older cars. No I cannot afford a 2015 BMW for the time being I do not intent to discourage anyone from buying one. Also I do not intent to undervalue the brilliant tech or modern aspects of new cars, However, my heart always races when i see a mint condition older car (exclusively euro car as I am an euro car enthusiast) on the roads and I don't get the same excitement when I see modern cars. It may be just me or do you also happens to have same feelings for 90's cars. Sound off in comments below Cheers,
  16. Any gentleman with hands on experience with BMW E38 (preferably long wheel base facelift model) and / or Jaguar XJ (X350) kindly provide a detailed comment on these cars as I have yet to find that information. Thanks
  17. You still got an Ultimate Driving Machine, regardless the size or the number of bells and whistles. I am not a person who is after Bells and whistles and hardly use some of the bells & whistles of my S type. But size does matter. Ever since I was a teenager, I was fascinated by imposing sedans and even though I agree with you that smaller ones like your E46 are more driver oriented and may offer greater driving thrill, I prefer the stretched euro's like E38 and XJ that has unmatched road presence and are the best cruisers in the world IMHO.
  18. ES8 is a good car. But one that is seems to not in excellent condition does not worth 2.5 mil price tag IMHO. Before the recent price hike, there were lots of excellent condition ES8's for 2.0 - 2.3 mil range for 2001-2003 years.
  19. No thanks PL, I'd rather be labeled as Kal-el - the son of Jor-el of Krypton for the time being. If i reconsider, I would definitely get back to you But I respect your last line there. Yes we have to satisfy our souls at one point. Otherwise we all will be driving Alto's... (no offense to Altos)
  20. Well PreseaLover, you got some ballsy list of instructions over there and I appreciate it. But, wouldn't that make me a CAR STALKER or a CAR VOYEUR I would have to consider whether to take that path that may leads to, well, ... AUTO INSANITY
  21. No, YALA, i didn't meant to upgrade the looks (i.e. modify the car). I meant to I intent to upgrade from S Type to one of the models discussed in this thread. I would never modify the car. Recently I felt the urge to buy a new set of wheels that are from another manufacturer, yet I restrained my urge and decided to keep the stock ones. I noticed that you own a x308 and that thing is a beast. It' sleek and feline IMHO, I may not be the biggest fan when it comes to the design aesthetics. But that is a PROPER JAG and truly a man's car. Would love to hear from you how it drives or how it glides.. especially in comparison to a S Type like mine.
  22. Thanks for your concern. As I have mentioned in the beginning, I intent to upgrade from my Jaguar S Type (2000) and since it is already a fantastic performance / luxury car, the main concern for me was whether the listed cars will be a upgrade or a downgrade from my S Type. Although I love E38, it is 05-06 year older car than the S Type. E39 is also 4 years older, Audi A6 (C5) 2-3 years older car. So as much as I love these cars, there is a risk of feeling downgraded if I decide to go for one of these. Since no one I personally know owns any of these cars, I cannot personally test any of the cars, hence the purpose of the thread. Yes, it is also about the money. When trading my S Type (which I think worth 2.5 million now), I may not have to spend a lot for others (except for an XJ X350 of-course). My main concerns are, 1. How to find excellent condition car as these are very rarely advertised in classifieds (specially E38, E39, E60 and XJ) 2. What would be the true upgrade in terms of looks, performance, luxury, road presence and driving dynamics. I like E38 very much, but not sure if i feel downgraded if I decide to upgrade. So, a more detailed comparison would be of great value. Cheers
  23. 100% agreed. However styling of X308 does not excites me like X350 (and X358 - are there any X358 XJ's in Sri Lanka?). IMHO, No car (let's keep out the Bentley's, RR's, A Martin's and hyper cars out of the picture here) has that amazing presence and elegance like a long wheel base X350 or X358 (miss the leaping cat in the bonnet) series XJ (Ok the new 'Maserati Quattroporte' looks just as good). However an early sample (2003-2005) costs around 6 million here (saw amazing gold color one advertised not too long ago for that price), which may be a bit out of my budget for the time being. E38's can be had (if facelifted iL version can be found easily) for less than half of than price (2.8 - 3.0 million). E60's starts at 4.0 mill for 2003 and good facelifted E39 still demands over 2.5 mil. Choices, Choices.
  24. no I don't stalk her and we are good friends,, and No she doesn't own the Presea, I think she doesn't like the presea much, she is into fast cars
