  1. šŸ˜€ nice! Enjoy the Vezel! That once a month refueling must certainly feel awesome. As for the ad, I took it off some of the FB pages and just left it on Marketplace due to some bots and spammers. One thing though, I just realized again how gorgeous those Unity Performance smoked out side markers are when looking through the ad pics šŸ˜€. That’s one purchase I have zero regrets about. Wish the person who decides to purchase my Civic is an enthusiast and will care for the fellow like I did.
  2. Hey guys.. how's everyone been doing? Hope you're all safe with the crazy weather and stuff. I've managed to fix every single issue with the Civic! Been driving it trouble-free for a while now and super happy. After all these years, I've just driven the fellow 58k km... good fun and certainly helped me learn a lot through the troubling times, but I'm really glad it's almost like a new car now! Unfortunately, I've decided to part ways with it. Been a good 7 years now and I guess it's time I look for something else. In case anyone is keen on the car, do hit me up. I know I'll miss the fellow once he's gone, but I guess that's life. Oh and I just realized that if anyone wants a maintenance record of the car, it's all listed on this massive thread! Gotta love the community.
  3. Amen to that Civic 2018 thread. Also, if you’re looking for a good FK6 Tech Pack, I’ll be listing mine for sale in a week or two. Low mileage and given I’m OCD about any issues, it’s almost a new car now with a complete overhaul of the AC system and Suspension šŸ˜€. Thread explains it all.
  4. lol I recall mentioning it once to my wife while driving the Civic; got the AC issues the very next day. It’s alive! Should resort to having a little chat with the car on a daily now to keep it going. It can’t complain though as I got a complete detailing job done the day before - took it to the spa! Think I’ll keep the Civic a while longer… and maybe check out the cost of the 1.5L conversion šŸ˜€.
  5. The coolant level issue is most likely due to the coolant reserve tank having a leak; yes, it’s another defect with the FK6, so you’ll need to replace it - get that done outside since the dealer rips you off on the price for that. As for the oil tapet cover situ, I wouldn’t go with the Hub and I’d trust the dealer with it. The reason they said they’ll check and fix any issue on it for free is due to their warranty on repairs; I’d make sure that’s intact and stick with the dealer there. Trick is that you’ve got to be selective with your visits to the dealer. They’re good for some stuff like engine issues (I’d never give my car anywhere else apart from the place in Yakkala for that and the transmission) and electronic stuff plus genuine parts, however for things like AC, suspension repairs, diagnosis of failures, etc., you’re better off with other places. Oh and 2 more things: 1) Check what refrigerant is in your car’s system and if the previous owner changed it to R134a if it was R1234yf (the original type will be mentioned under the bonnet). Reason? The dealer and a few others see no issue in mixing refrigerants if you happen to run an AC service; in fact, it’s disastrous on your entire AC system if mixed without fully vacuuming the other gas out. 2) Install a rat guard at the dealer. There are 2 access points on this model (the Hub only does 1). I just saw the gaping vent slot in the firewall after my entire dashboard was removed (due to the evaporator replacement) and that’s more than enough for Rattimus Prime to waltz its way through. Good thing I had a guard mesh fixed there.
  6. Welcome to the club! See, with the FK6, when it works, it does work really well - that driving pleasure is unmatched in its class; even compared to the Audi A3 and Q2 (Premio and Allion may be exceptions though, but they look prehistoric inside). I would highly recommend you take the car over to the Car Check-ing place down Pepiliyana as they're the ones who really found out a bunch of underlying issues with my suspension. On the other hand, this thread has almost every single issue with the Civic recorded now including possible resolution steps
  7. This was the first evap replacement and it is an after-market one with a 1yr warranty. The previous times, it was the condenser and that was a Malaysian-made aftermarket unit. Got that changed to an OEM one this time even though it didn't have a leak, purely due to the fin count difference - it could strain the new compressor as cooling efficiency would reduce with the lesser fins. Was running with 134a for the past 2-3 years since the last original compressor repair. Still using 134a on the new system. Before that, I had the original condenser replaced with another aftermarket unit, but was filled with 1234yf. During my regular service, the dealer decided to top up the refrigerant by mixing 134a and said that's their usual process - immediately noticed the drop in cooling efficiency. Under high pressure and a little stone damage, it leaked out unfortunately, leading to me going with a full 134a replacement and newer condenser (the one with less fins). Lesson learnt: go with 134a entirely while making sure the right compressor oil is used and never take the dealer's word as gospel truth. wouldn't that screw me over with the DMT since the registration goes for a 1L Civic? That said, given how finicky the FK6 is, I wouldn't dare touch anything else unnecessarily. I did just check out the BYD Atto 3 and Seal. The Atto 3 is floaty like a balloon, but its acceleration is pretty amazing; also faster 0-100kph compared to the FK6. Only thing was that there are like huge gaps under the trunk where the motor and wires are (battery ventilation no doubt) that the rats would consider them as welcome mats to their new crib!
  8. Damn, I thought the hybrid version was worse w.r.t pulling power compared to the petrol variant. Should do more research on this. W.r.t the Civic, doing a bit more digging into it before I make the leap. Got an offer for the City RS, but no way am I taking it. That BYD Seal is looking quite neat too BTW, guess what? A day after the compressor change, the AC gives up again, so it looks like it wasn't the compressor alone after all. Took the car to another AC place close to home (the one named after a Japanese flower) and they've ripped the whole dashboard apart to change the Evaporator coil (leaky). Also, apparently the condenser that was previously fitted in wasn't meant for this car (it had 30 rows of fins vs. the correct 45 rows)... however, there wasn't a leak there. I think if I just change the engine and CVT, I'll have a brand new car! šŸ˜–
  9. Yup, really glad I didn’t get the timing belt issue so far, but was advised to get it changed by 80k km given it’s a wet belt. Was thinking of switching to something else like the 1.5L version, but don’t see too many of those around on sale. The alternative is a newer Corolla, however it goes at like 19Mn recon, which is insane. In any case, I’ve decided to switch to something more reliable.
  10. Alrighty, how’s everyone’s Civic holding up? Been an expense-ridden few months here. So much so that I now have a completely new front-end (shocks, bushings, mounts and links), a new engine under-guard,…. and a brand new AC compressor (yup, just when everything was settling in, the shaft seal leaked again). Don’t even ask how much it cost me, but all in all, I must’ve spent close to 2Mn in repairs since last August. On a more positive note, I bought some Unity Performance smoked side markers (a lot of the others don’t seem to fit too well for some reason). Waiting for it to ship, but the pics do look great. Even brighter side is that I might be able to fetch max price for the car if I sell it… and boy am I tempted to sell it now. Or should I just continue using it for a while longer. I still like the car (it’s nearly brand new again!), but the issues have really done me in especially at just 52k km on the clock.
  11. Yup! Sneaky Honda eh? Also read elsewhere that you need to recalibrate thrice if you’ve changed tyres entirely to trigger an ā€œresetā€ otherwise it uses the difference from the previous values and adjusts. No idea how that SW works, but it explains a lot of false positives and negatives.
  12. Hey, yup got a tune up done and didn't have an oil pressure warning or knocking sound since; it's very quiet now. As for the TPMS, it looks like the one on the Civic is a little weird or it may just be mine. I used to never get any alert on the TPMS during daily driving in traffic despite tyre pressures being quite off (I check my tyre pressure at the shed every month out of habit and could see the fluctuation). However, if I hit the highway or drive at faster speeds, it then tends to detect the pressure difference. In this case, however, it never popped up. What's worse is that after changing the 4 tyres, those folks pumped them up to 40-42psi. That caused a major rattle everywhere as the vehicle was so bumpy. Got that checked and reduced down to 32psi on all 4; much smoother since then. Not once did the TPMS go off though, oddly. I wonder if it only picks up these differences when driving at higher speeds for a while as opposed to stop-start traffic. EDIT: Found this thread that explains why the TPMS might be a bit weird on the 10th gen onwards: Getting the entire front-end dismantled tomorrow to check for any worn bushings and especially that weird intermittent metal scraping noise. Hoping for the best. BTW, do any of you know a good place that does plastic welding? I have a broken mounting hole on the lower lip of the front bumper and need that fixed; the entire lip itself is quite pricey and not worth replacing for just that damage.
  13. Changed the rear struts finally as it was extremely weak. But apart from that, there was a weird issue with the rear camber and as per the dealer, there have been a bunch of other CR-V's and Civics that came in with the same problem. They had to do some lathe work on the arms to get it sorted. Apart from that, there seems to also be a bit of play on the rack and it's most likely one of the bushings that's worn down. The front links also seem to be a little shaky, so that's due for a change. However, just when I thought I was getting things sorted out, ended up with a flat tyre that I didn't even notice and drove around with it unfortunately. Only realized once I landed the front right tyre over a metal manhole cover and it felt like an earthquake. Tyre had to be replaced, so I got 4 new Yokohamas... yes, another major expense there. Had to replace the rears anyway since the Continentals were nearly completely worn out (uneven wear due to previous suspension issues). The only issue though is that after that knock, there is a very slight intermittent squealing noise like those from the brake wear indicators on the affected wheel. It isn't the rim or anything either since that was swapped to the rear. Got the alignment re-done and there's no damage, but I guess something's off alignment at the rotor or pad level. Hoping it isn't the wheel bearings that have got some play since that's usually a pricey repair. The woes never end!!
  14. Ok so I had enough with the issues and took the car to C*r C****s. Glad I did since they found out the cause for my suspension woes. Apparently the inner CV boot and tie rod ends were messed up. They also said that the rack was gone, but didn’t really inspect the whole thing, so it needed to be checked separately. I also have some weak rear shocks as the car once hoisted had its rear wheels move into the shocks even with a little push (shouldn’t be the case). This means that the car can’t even take its own body weight and hence needs those 2 replaced. Also found out that the rear wheel alignment that the dealer did last year caused a misaligned rotation marker, so it’s difficult for anyone to figure out the exact angle now just by looking at it. Needed a few more things done too, like an engine tune up as it was noisy on idle (guessing carbon build up thanks to the crappy 0w20 Performax oil they used). Will swap out for a good 5w30 next service. Took the report to the dealer as I wanted to show them what they kept shrugging off for the past several years. They were so defensive at first and when I forced them to check it out, they admitted the tie rods were worn as there was considerable play. When asked if they checked it this way before, they said they didn’t since the test drive down their ā€œboralu paaraā€ was fine. They also tried to say that just because there are oil stains on the CV boot doesn’t mean that grease is leaking; asked them to change it anyway since it’s most likely cracked. They did say that the rack ends were ok though, but I’m going to get that specifically checked elsewhere. Rear shocks will be replaced later from outside as I can’t be dishing out 98k per strut at the dealer. Anyway, the ride is super smooth now on the front end. Just like the good old days when I purchased it. A few more fixes and it’ll be as good as new!
  15. December update! Yes, I still have the Civic. Just had a check engine light come up on the way back home from Nuwara Eliya and ended up replacing the O2 sensor as it was faulty; cleanup with brake cleaner wouldn't solve it. Apart from that, I seem to have a weird knocking sound from the engine after my last service just 2 weeks back. They used 0w20 Motul 8000 Performax, which I saw was specific to India (it isn't listed anywhere on the global site nor are the specifications available), but it was ACEA C5 rather than A5. Not sure if that is causing a problem since I also got a low oil pressure warning light a few days back in Colombo, but it went off within like 30 seconds and didn't reappear. Oil level seems fine. I wonder if it's the C5 oil with lower HTHS compared to the A5 ones. Also, it's a little weird since after the oil leak fix back in Aug / Sep, my maintenance minder indicated a service due in December; this was within just like 3k km or so. Need to get this thing checked and also replace my engine under-guard since that was damaged as well; thanks to the wonderful holes and roads we have. By the way, I just checked my VIN on the Honda UK site and there’s a recall notice around the fuel pump. Apparently there’s a defect in the impeller that causes fuel to leak out, resulting in a fuel odor once parked. It apparently fails and the vehicle either stalls or refuses to start. I don’t think the recall is offered by the dealer here though. Might want to check your VIN and see too.
