Hi I had a Grand Vitara 2001 model and sold it just two weeks ago. it was on the same site and not there any more. it was a 2000 cc and I was very happy with it. It was 40k on the clock when I bought it and was 78k when I sold. had no issues with it what so ever except for the routine oil changes which I was very particular on. a very good vehicle and the four wheel drive was effective. And by the way now I've already placed an order for the Hyundai tucson, 2700 cc 4WD. I've not test driven one yet but has driven the model you are talking about. no complaints from me. the performance was to my satisfaction. My advice is, if the cost is not an issue, go for the Hyundai as it is a newer vehicle when compared to the others you've mentioned. good luck

go ahead and use Mobil XHP, it'll do fine on your car.

when the gas goes low you get this noise from the evoporator which is inside the dash board (under the gloove box in most cars). I think you get this hiss noise from there? No issues. there is a gas leak some where is your system. you got to get it fixed. otherwise the compressor would be running continuously and apparently heat up and get damaged. so you better attend to it as early as possible. it would also cost you a lot on your fuel as the compressor is running through out. no option, if you have a car and it has a problem, you got to fix it, no matter what the cost is

I generally drive on th enegombo road. when going to colombo its now a very common occurance that you get caught to a sivere jam close to peliyagoda. what our smart (or dumb) drivers do is to switch to the third lane and hammer down to the end of the jam and then try to squeese in. the best part of this is that the police stops the second lane and gives priority to those on the third lane to make room for the ose going towards negombo. this happened to me last saturday and I got really mad with one of the cops as he stopped me and gave room for a guy on the third lane. they are there to maintain law and order and what are these people doing? they are encouraging people to do the wrong thing by giving priority to the third lane. I was for a moment wondering as to why I don't go on the third lane. believe me those guys would have reached colombo a couple of minutes earlier, after doing the wrong thing. what the police should really do is to just stop those fellows and tear of their driving licence or give them copral punishment like in singapore. I do not understand when the poeple of our country would learn road decipline. let alone decipline, just a bit of respect to the other drivers.

go for the Lancer buddy, its absolutely marvolous. You'll never regret buying it

As far as technology used is concerned I feel there's not much of a difference when compared to a Maruti. the issue is that the car is new to Sri Lanka. I know of a person using one as a second car. they don't do much running (may be about 500 - 600 kms per month). they are very happy with it. their argument is that it's worth the money they paid. every thing just works. nothing very glamorous about it but it does the job. you got to understand one thing when you are buying a car of this caliber. it is not meant for performance driving. you got to use it carefully. it's got a small engine so it can not handle high speeds-- etc. if you use it keeping things like that in mind .... well It would give you good service

Hi there, This info sounded interesting to me too, though I knew the side of the fuel cap in my car (Nissan March K - 11). The fuel cap on the car is on the Left side. The handle of the gas pump is to the right of the pump. there fore this does not agree to what you say. may be this information is valid to a particular brand.

Electricity Consumption And Battery Size
Dtr replied to TurboSeavy's question in Electrical problems
Hay EVO an alternator is an electrical power generating device. so the Max power that the alternator can handle depends on the thickness of the conductors used on the windings inside the alternator. general rule is when a current passes through a conductor, heat is generated. Higher the current, higher would be the generated heat, so we always got to see that the current we pass through all electrical equipment would not exceed safe values to prevent over heating. this justifies the reason for all electrical equipment to have power ratings. consider the equation below Power (W) = Voltage (V) x Current (I) so generally when talking of a lamp we talk about a wattage (W), {Eg 50W, 65W, 75W etc} To calculate the current drawn by a lamp which has a rating of 75W {Eg: head lamp bulb} we could make use of the above equation. W=V x I 75 = 12 x I {V = 12 as the voltage of the electrical system of a car is 12} I = 75/12 = 6.25A Since current is measured in amperes we say that the lamp would consume 6.25 amperes of current when connected to a 12V power source. so what manufacturers do is, calculate the total power requirement of the vehicle and decide on an alternator capacity, so that the total power requirement of the vehicle would be about 60% or so of the alternator capacity to prevent a very high current passing through the windings and resulting in burning of the alternator. hope this explanation satisfies you -
the soluna is a thailad version. the body work is not that good as per what I know. but the engine and transmission is what you'd find on the corolla (110). the Platz is totally japaneese. its a decent average size car with good fuel economy. I know of a person using one and he is very happy with the car. its not very stable on the road, so you can't drive very fast in it. I was in OMAN two years back and saw lots of them being used as TAXIs. the drivers seemed to love that car due to its fuel economy and overall reliability

Electricity Consumption And Battery Size
Dtr replied to TurboSeavy's question in Electrical problems
so long as the total power consumption of all your additions + the manufacturers electrical loads doesn't exceed the capacity of the alternator its OK to continue with the same battery. any way when you connect additional electrical loads to the car it increases the load on the alternator. the battery is just a reserve used only to start the car and once the engine is started, its the alternator that supplies the entire electrical load + charges the battery to top it up. so if you are not planning to use the additions when the engine is not running the size of the battery is not an issue, the original one would do fine. always make sure you satisfy the first point I mentioned. TOTAL ELECTRICAL LOAD must be lower than the alternator capacity. One more thing I'd like to mention here. Generally machines are made not to operate at their maximum load through out. Eg: You may have an alternator with a capacity of 90A. it does not mean that you can operate it with a 90A load all the time. May be it would work fine with a transient load of 90A and a continuous load of about 50A. otherwise the equipment would burn off. manufacturers make equipment of a higher pawer rating than required to maintain reliability. -
Hi every body I've got a 14k $ diesel permit and is wondering what vehicle to buy. I drove the Micro Kyron last saturday, it moved OK, and I feel it seems to be a good buy. lot of the permit holders whom I know have come to the conclusion that the kyron gives the best value for money. the other vehicles don't fit in to this price limit. the Kyron is about 3.25M for the permit. The Tuson is around 3.7M for the permit which is a bit high for me. Is there any one who is using a Kyron right now or atleast knows of some one who is using one? if so please let me know as to how the vehicle is. I'm a bit worried as the ssangYong Musso was a disaster. thanks in advance

Well, here are a few points that I could high light to you if the car is having a hydraulic power steering system 1) first of all ask him to check the P/steering reservoir for proper fluid level. lack of oil causes tightness of the wheel and would also seriously damage the entire system 2) if the oil is to the proper level, the belt needs to be checked for proper tension, if it's too loose you may feel the wheel being tight. but on the other hand, if the belt is loose it would make a screeching noise when you turn the wheel very fast while keeping the car stationary. this may not be good for the tires and must not me done very much. 3) if the belt is not lose, the next thing to do is to replace the P/Steering oil with a recomended good type of oil. if the car is a recon one most probably it may have run over 40k. so then its good to replace the oil and I do it at 20k intervals on my vehicle and always feel a difference. 4) if that too does not work it could be that the rack has been adjusted by someone and is too tight now, so if that is the case there's nothing much you could do to my knowledge as it may have been tightened to reduce noise of the steering system. if you loosen the rack now all the noises may turn up again. any way nothing like trying. failing all that you may be forced to change the rack may be some one else could add more to this

there was one by the name Fuel Max about two years back, imported by a place in wattala(not sure if it's still available). I too installed it. the cost of a unit was some thing like 4500/=. I fitted on a Hyundai Elantra. to be honest I did not feel any difference in the fuel consumption. they told me that the location of the unit could make a difference and altered the position several times which cost me more as I had to take the car to them each time. The hyundai was heavy on fuel (8.5 - 9.5 km/l) so I wished that this unit would work. Apparently I gave up the idea.

well my personal openion is that the HONDA CIVIC is on top when it comes to performance and looks, fuel efficiency wise the corolla would be on top, but the issue is that even toyota lanka is not so sure of what they would be importing. they only give the details of the diesel corolla which again is coming with a 2C engine which is OOOOLD. so what' s the point? I love the new civic and would go for one in the very near future, but one thing though, if you are not fully decided on a car yet don't forget to have a look at the Lancer. it too looks great. the wheel size and the rest of the stuff gives the feeling that it has very good stability, so if you are a fast driver well ......

Hi There Did you try the Hyundai Tucson? I checked with Hyunday Lanka some time back, they said that only the 2WD is on offer for the permit of the lower limit (14k US$). its a good vehicle. several of my friends are using the Petrol version and is quite happy with their choise.

Hay guys I'm nuw to the forum, My advice is to avoide taking chances, the prices are very tempting with the permit, but the point is whether it is worth the risk
