your thinking is wrong 141 corolla is imported to sri lanka is manufactured in Japan (as least the 2007-2009 ) powerful 1.6 is only available in the altis which is not manufacuted in japan and not imported to sri lanka corolla 141 is underated and only second hand toyota you could buy at a decent price. if 8-9kmpl city 12-14kmpl outstation is not a issue it is the best option
-
First of all you can’t compare the Vios and the 141 corolla cos they are two different class of vehicles. The pros and cons of both the vehicles have already been discussed above and IMO they are all valid points. I have been using a 141 from Dec 2007 and up to date not a single issue, so is my cousins car ... in fact I had never heard of a single reliability issue with this model Only down side is the fuel economy which is 8-9 in city 12-14 outstation, vois i think better in this regard. Personally I feel the Corolla 141 is an underrated and there for undervalued TOYOTA car in SL. Since you are buying second hand the initial hit has already taken care of, so if fuel is not a big issue look no further.

Is it just me or are they getting uglier by each generation. Look at that dashboard

U can get a E200 or a A6 for the US$ 30k permit
-
If it was me i would save Rs. 700k, put in the Bank @ 12% p.a which would get me return of Rs 280k-400k in 3-4 years which would definitly make up for what you are going to loose on the car. I'm sure you will be able to recover what you pay on the Demio for the simple fact of the lower price. In the secondhand market this segment will be very budget concious. it will be easier to sell a 3.0 Mn. car than a 4.0 Mn.
-
If the sole criterion is good looks on a brand new at a budget price best is to look at Kia & Hyundai New Indian Swift might come within your budget. If you consider used cars you could buy seriously good looking car like an Audi/ BMW/Peugeot or an Alfa (Alfa will be hard to find) If you want a Jap may be a Lancer Ex/ Mazda 3 Having said all that beauty is in the eye of the beholder, so go and get what is beautiful to you without asking opinion in a public forum

When one says city driving there could be little differences in the traffic situations. E.g. Battaramulla to Fort at 7-8 a.m. and 8-9 a.m. could be two different scenarios. So a 1 kmpl difference is quite possible. In my personal experience I get 1 kmpl during my daily commute during school holidays. This could even be due to your tyre type/size/ pressure, no of short commutes instead of one or two longer ones. Time of the day, in afternoons more pressure on the a/c. I agree with jdnet if you are so worried about 1 kmpl get a prius or use the bus

I loved the car, so did my wife and it was ideal size for my family. The actual reason was the agent not only at the time of import but even for service / warranty it was a struggle. The same sentiments shared by two other family members

I had a similar situation in 2007 when I got down a Mitsubishi Lancer EX, they promised delivery in Nov 2007 but the car came in Feb 2008. I had to pocket out around Rs. 250k (10%) over the initial price. They said that it was due to some delay in production, I didn’t buy that cos LCs opened after mine got delivery in December 2007. My gut feeling was that they did not place my order on time. I wrote to M*********I, supplier S*****U, threatened legal action nothing happened. I was so disappointed with the company I sold the car as soon as it was transferable and will not sight that place ever again.

10M Non Refundable Deposite To Obtain Vehicle Import Permit
kush replied to ramithad's topic in General Automotive
Why not ban car imports altogeter and give duty free permits to all the morons who are running this country. As we have highways and railways and excellent public transport the common kind can use them. Or sell your current wheels, put the money into a ever increasing interest rate deposit and live off from your Rs. 7500/- interest income -
Although the car is a complete wreck the most important passenger compartment seems fully intact. If the passengers were wearing seat belts injuries should be minor. Car seems to have aquaplaned due rain and worn out tires. The important lessons would be: 1. Always wear your belts both front and back 2. Use good tires properly inflated, especially if you are going to speed, and 100 kmph is not for all whether. One needs to use common sense and drive according to the weather conditions and capabilities /limits for your wheels. 3. Consider the safety features/ crash worthiness of the vehicle when you make a purchese, yours and your loved ones lives may depend on it. Safe driving

Vehicle Duty Going To Increase This Friday ?
kush replied to sampath_fer's topic in General Automotive
This could be traders trying to sell off their stocks, vehicle sales have drastically dropped due to hight interest rates and banks/ finance co's slow down on lending. -
Vehicle Duty Going To Increase This Friday ?
kush replied to sampath_fer's topic in General Automotive
Hi waka, if you want a vehicle go and get one already imported there are plenty of vechiles inported at old exchange rates. Why do you want to take risk at the posibility of higer rates and duty. Unless you are planning on getting down something special. -
Dude these cars are not meant for common people. Expect to pay on fuel consumption/ maintenance cost, this is the main reason these cars depreciate sooo much. Having said that if you don’t do much running this will be a nice car to own. May I suggest the 5 series IMO it is a better drivers car and with less costs, however with less road presence too.

Lancer Cs1 (1300Cc) Has No Enough Power To Carry Load???
kush replied to bluejay.net's topic in General Automotive
I used a CS1 manual for 4 years with out any trouble, used it to go to Nuwara Eliya and back every week for over 2 years with 4 guys with a week load of luggage. Only time the car feels under powered is Radella climb. With time you get used to make gear changes to get the optimum from the engines 90 bhp, which actually is not far from what you get in average 1.5 (105 bhp for the Corolla 110) It use to give me 12 km/l with all that hard driving. -
There is one car ex stock, asking price Rs. 4.8 Mn, which I feel is on the high side considering you could get a Prius for the same price or little more.

There is no such thing as 185 or 195 alloy wheels. Width of the wheel is generally measured in inches. For the tire size you intend to use the best would be 6 or 6.5 inch. 6.5 would be much better visually. Not only the height even the width will have issues with the tires touching the body, especially in the font while applying full steering lock, I suggest you check whether you check this before finalizing the purchase. What is your stock wheel width if it is 6 inches 6.5 will not be much of an issue. As for the tire try to find 195/60/15 if you can this will have less impact on your gearing and Speedo reading than 195/65/15 If you are looking at improving the looks of your vehicle with the alloys just go for the increase in width with the stock tires. IMO 185/65/15 on a 6.5 inch will be much better looking than 195/65/15 on a 6.0 inch, and you can save a good sum on the cost of the tires.

Most of the cabs are now made in Thailand, Totoya/Mitsubishi/Nissan/Ford. I've been in UK for few months in 2008 and travelled quite a bit did not see that many pickups. So my guess is that they are been used as intended by the users, i.e. farm/ constriction work which might explain the rust issues.
-
I would say to go with the Agents as they have all the necessary equipment and knowledge. To my knowledge their service is good and prices reasonable.
-
Hay buddy as far as I know it is not that bad deal as you all least got the vehicle with 3 months delay. As far as I know if you got down a brand new vehicle the agent is suppose to deliver it in mint condition, they are suppose to do any dents scratchers before delivery. Look for the customs inspection sheet that should give an indication whether the damage was there at the time of vehicle landing in SL port. Agent charges over 1.0 Mill as I remember so get them to do the insurance and any other stuff if applicable if they don’t you could go to consumer authority and lodge a complaint. If your dad is the actual recipient of the permit being a government official he will be able to expedite the matters with the consumer authority. I would urege you not to take the delivery of the vehicle until the matter is sorted. I must tell you this is a common issue with cars imported to SL they get damaged at the port at agents yards course they do not have proper facilities. I don’t think you have the option of rejecting the vehicle as it was imported under your dad’s name and under the concessionary permit. I know of number of people who lost money vehicles not being delivered by the agents in time and all of them give crap service even after charging the customers through their nose as agent charges.

Dude all pickups are catagorised as dual purpose, unless it is a single cab. Your duty structure will be based on HS Code, find the correct HS Code for the vehicle you intend to get down and finding the duty will not be an issue.
