  1. Sorry guys I don't agree with these fellows on this. Tell me why didn't they import the old Note as an electric and imported it as a hybrid? The reason is in the hs classification it clearly states that it is deemed an electric only if it's charged by an external source ie: from the grid. If you argue about the i3 and any car that comes with a range extender it is deemed an electric as they have an external charging socket to charge the battery. It's just these unscrupulous importers are trying their best to fit in non electric cars into electric and reduce the duty and luxury tax. What does the badge or manufacturer says? Do they say fully electric? Thoughts.
  2. Is it me or does that look like a helmet from Star wars?
  3. Nissan is bringing in the Primera nameplate back. I hope it's not going to be some boring crossover but a car that will have superb handling, good responsive reliable motor like the Primeras of pre 2000. I also do hope they don't go under and the Primera becomes their saviour.

Given how things are, I'm quite sure they will come up with a huge lumpy SUV and call it primera.

I don't think they are doing well in the SUV/CROSSOVER front as well. So many issues with engines and transmissions which are unheard of the Nissan's of old. So that's why I say they need a saviour that is reliable, no frills with just good handling characteristics. Make it electric if that is their forte I don't mind but just make it reliable and well prices.

I remember the last gen Primera which had a factory installed navigation system. That was like a spaceship for us school boys at the time. Thought it to be the best car in the world. We had one car in our town, which was owned by a financial scammer chap.

  4. There is more to Colombo than kottu 😝 I meant that I am out of the country.
  5. Interesting, you know when I got rid of my Alto I just advertised on the quick site and also on vehicle roof first guys who came bargained like crazy but I didn't budge, then another guy came and paid an advance after three weeks and a few days later came and said he can't buy it due to the crib and so I put it again on a Sunday and by Monday it was sold at 50k less than advertised. This was back in January and mind you it was an Alto 800
  6. Funny thing machang even at those hefty price tags used vehicles seemed to be moving. My take on it all is that as you say some have made a whole bunch of money whereas some haven't had any changes in their lifestyles. For example the guys in the Automobile trade (referring to dealers) we never got salary increments and we never got the full on incentives that we used to get. Same way I am sure certain other industries were impacted. Sometimes you wonder where all the money came from. Interestingly people who never looked at a 100m vehicle are buying them in the bucket loads. People who stayed away from 20m vehicles are happily spending 30m plus now. In 2018/19 a 100m vehicle was a Lamborghini or a Maybach or a Bentley. Nowadays so many go for more than 100m and there are so many buyers. Same goes to the 20-30m range how many would have paid that 20m for a brand new E Class or a 5 in 2019/20? Now they pay more for an used vehicle.
  7. Don't worry guys I rarely log in these days as I am out, but will try to keep coming here once in a while and let the others have fun.
  8. Very true, seeing people advertise G Classes, Raptors etc. Don't think the people who were crying for cars are buying.
  9. You remembered Johnny Smith's last barn find?
  10. And now there is talk of reducing the duty. Also talk of underhand illegal things happening at Japanese car inspections etc. Such a shame.
  11. Ah but I see they are going to offer the Grandis which will be a rebadged Renault in Australia. Meaning that Renault might keep the brand Mitsubishi. Maybe they didn't go the three way with Nissan and Honda because of their affiliation with Renault. I don't know. We will have to wait and see. I hear that Tesla 'maybe' interested in Nissan and the Nissan shares have shot up with the news.
  12. @john cooper gave the answer let him put the next trivia
  13. Yesterday I was passing the teledrama location of 'doo daruwo' and I remembered this model. Rs. 15mil for this is a lot I would say.
  14. Get it checked by an electrician, looks like an electrical fault.
  15. Do we have one of these? What about the jets that doesn't require grip?
  16. Someone take my turn please
  17. There some common sense. If only the rest of the country understand the situation they won't be crying on social media about prices. If the people pay the correct taxes I am sure the duties can come down in the future, but problem will be how do you keep the banks afloat as they leant based on high values?
  18. Trump imposes tariffs on China and they impose higher tariffs in US products. For the EV batteries China is the biggest provider of earth materials and it will push US EV vehicle prices up. We are going to see a nice game coming up between two world superpowers.

  19. SInce no one answered its a Sunbeam Rapier I believe
  20. So the government lifted restrictions on the importation of motor vehicles, what do we know so far? 1. EV taxes increased 2. Luxury Tax Threshold increased 3. Customs duty of 30% applicable on motor vehicles 4. Three year limit is still in effect. As I once said the reason for removing restrictions are not for the love of the people but to earn more revenue to increase govt employee salaries, for subsidies and above all to stop the leasing companies and banks going bankrupt (by their own fault for taking inflated values for vehicles and finding ways to give above 50% of the value on lease, they have dug their own grave and there is no way for them to come out if people stop paying). The double cab guys were shouting the whole of last week, wonder what happens now? Will they ditch the double cabs and start talking of cars again? Forgot to ad, the dollar has been creeping up since 2 weeks ago, so you can expect the prices to go even higher. On a side note I had my stop gap Alto for sale, the first week there was hardly any calls just people calling and offering ridiculous low prices (and here I was expecting to get rid of it fast, unlike my previous vehicles which were not easy to sell), when the import dealers started saying taxes will go up suddenly there was a spike in inquiries and the second guy who came to have a look bought it very close to my asking price ever since people are calling and asking if the car is there and what price I sold it for.
  21. Think the doc is in Australia now
  22. Oh so this is that doctor who used to do up the Cedric's and all but never agreed on the legality?
  23. Very true. Problem we have is no one is listening to the people who know. I blame the media for not reporting facts, I blame them for becoming a mouthpiece for certain groups only. Media can play a decisive role in changing public misconceptions. Media has to be responsible for what they publish. Another reason is because of the L board people (I mean the vehicle importers) who are acting like newbies for their own good. If you had been in the industry you know what taxes are to be paid and how many times it changed in the recent years. They should know that the excise duty on vehicles is the inclusion of all the other duties except for VAT. This came about to simplify the system. Thing is on the forex, it's a fine balancing act, they have to get their act together (govt) if not it's going to be a disaster. This is where the govt should show their education and experience to come out with a proper plan. I have always said that we as a country doesn't know how to bring in more forex, they look at the easy ways only. There is no proper help given for tourism, exports to push them for better revenue and to bring the money rather than park it elsewhere. We have EPZ's but how many companies are still functioning? Yes it takes time to build trust in foreigners to come and invest, but things should be made simple for them to do business whilst the 'clean Sri Lanka' concept should push for more cleaning up of the govt closet's and coming clean from our old 'you can do anything if you give a commission' mentality. I hope and pray that this govt does it properly before they are chased out, if not we have no future of becoming a corruption free country.
  24. Yes it's still there but majority are looking to bypass the luxury tax and bring down 10 year old vehicles 😁 so I didn't want to say anything there. The depreciation table will be used for luxury tax calculation as well as for the diplomatic cars and the likes bought on duty free basis when they are sold in the local market for luxury tax calculation. The below is an I told you so scenario with our local dealers - https://www.dailymirror.lk/top-story/Vehicle-taxes-may-rise-up-to-600-percent-in-some-cases-by-400-500-percent-in-others-Importers/155-300008 They have already hoarded the used seçond hand cars and now want to make a killing.
  25. Don't be fooled by the vehicle mafia. I think it was the yahapalana govt that came up with max 1 year old vehicles can be bought down, but due to pressure from vehicle importers they changed it to 2 years. The HS classification doesn't state so due to the fact that there was a possibility to bring your own vehicle from abroad, but people stopped bringing them down since the tax was high unlike previously where a depreciation of tax was calculated. The two year was mentioned in a budget speech and there should be a gazette to that effect.
