  1. he was probably or drunk or didn't have all the documents with him. if its just a scratch i'd get it sorted on my own or call the insurance after lodging a complaint. you are on your own on what you want to do when the kid is summoned.
  2. 8.7 may seem like big number but compared to the 9.0 of 2004 only about 1/3rd of the energy is released. by last time are you talking about the 2004 tsunami?
  3. Great show! the film work was superb and the reviews were unbiased. Small suggestion S_N. maybe you actually did this. but when reviewing a new car you could spend a day or so getting acquainted with the car before the actual road test like the big boys do. that way you can script a nice road test that highlights the unique features of the car. like with the insight you could have talked more about how that econ mode helps you adapt a more economical driving style. and the economy test could have been a bit more comprehensive because after all its an economy car
  4. What I said was they never quite made any good looking mainstream cars. because I know such a car called 2000gt exists. however in my books good looking is reserved for something curvy balanced and looks good from every angle. So usually it's something italian or from the rest of europe. some japanese cars get close, like the nissan fuga but I guess that's mostly because they've copied maserati I guess. Toyota hasn't got it right in recent times. I think the 1st gen mark x and latest crown athlete was their best shot but they still managed to mess it up. mark x's headlights look like eyes without eyebrows and although the crown athlete/hybrid looks good from a front 3 quarter view its pretty unbalanced when viewed side on. the rears just too big for the front. some of the current models look pretty smart when dressed up and lowered. like the ist and the SAI. But what toyota needs to do is forget the accountants and mass market appeal and come up with something pretty. like citroen did with their current c5
  5. That's why I used words like striking or handsome. The SAI with aero options is striking in the original cadillac cts-esque rakish way. but I can't seem to bring myself to call a single toyota these days good looking. as for the sc430, and this is just my personal opinion. as awesome a car it may be it when it comes to looking bad it definitely takes the cake. apparently it was styled by the same guy who designed my vitz. even with the vitz it took me around 2 years to agree with those looks.
  6. the government is in desperate need for money. and they'll find it, whatever it costs ...us.
  7. Exactly my point. they are ok for small diy jobs but like MD said they do suffer a bit working 9-5 non stop. and seeing MD took 20 days to get all the rust off his car I thought maybe he could have cut it short if there were fewer "cooling down" breaks.
  8. what nonsense. the condition of the shocks have nothing to do with the ride height. your springs are probably past their use by date or this is just a placebo effect. replace the shocks and see. worn shocks can cause the vehicle to bottom out more easily when going over bumps
  9. MD you should ditch the chinese powertools and go for a brand like makita or Bosch. They'll work happily all day and when you are done with them you can pass them on to your children. thats how good they are. chinese ones are good for small one off jobs when you are on a tight budget. in the long run the jap and german powertools are more cost effective. Is that double wisbone I'm seeing on the front end? seems like it'll be a hoot to drive.
  10. Well toyota never really made any good looking mainstream cars to begin with. I would call some models striking. and I was thinking along those lines when the altezza was launched. I thought the 100 series landcruiser was a handsome looking beast too. but this was in 1998 and I was only 11. The point is most of us were kids in 90s and our aesthetic values were rubbish. So a brand new toyota then must have looked insanely good for most of us. At least now we get a bigger exposure to truly good looking cars thanks to the internet and other media. Also even mainstream marques are making some pretty nice cars. So the toyota has become more of a girl next door of a car in the eyes of most of us.
  11. technically hybrid prices should only go up by about 6%. but because all other cars cost about 30% more now the demand for hybrids will increase massively and their prices could increase by up to 10-15%. buy a 2nd hand vitz now if you can find one for the old price or a little more. with a hybrid you have a bit more time but if you are buying an insight, because your other option was a toyota, make sure you are ok with the high parts prices and awful agents.
  12. Where can I get coupla sets of 17" rims in 4x100 stud pattern?

  13. Went on that new road behind the parliament yesterday. at 100+ I was bouncing all over the place. either that road is built only for Nissan Sunnys or the engineering is rubbish

we will name it the Nissan Sunny road!

      terrabytetango

Yeah the road is quite bumpy and the initial left turn is very odd. I would suggest keeping your speed to 80 in case you need to take evasive action.

      Why Nissan Sunny ? :D

  14. honestly I think the best way to go about this job is to replace the entire side panel with a side cut from a 4 door model complete with the step. It took us about a month just to seal the door and the amount of effort and skill needed is unbelievable. I only realised this after seeing another cr41 that was converted from 5 doors to 4. it was full of ripples uneven panel gaps and shoddily finished. here's some of the basic steps I had to go through. the frame around the door was cut open and the outer skin of the door was used to cover the gap where the door was. then another front door lay down its life to cover the gaps the centre door rail and the door handle left. then we had to stretch the c pillar and shorten the b pillar to accept the bigger window and we also fabricated a frame for the window seal. then we lowered the step by about an inch to accommodate the a/c unit. and did some major strengthening work from the inside using the original beams and fabricated the inner bodywork using whats left of the door. Looking at this pic you could probably see how much sleep the boys lost finishing this job
  15. massive traffic jam approaching kiribathgoda. at the end of it the red Brera with a broken side mirror.

See i told everyone there was a red brera here, no one believed me :(

  16. I don't know about him trolling but I'm sure glad he changed that profile pic of his. I found it rather nauseating every time I saw that girl's substandard cleavage early in the morning. anyway sticking to the topic a mahindra scorpio would do nicely for a man with your tastes.
  17. sounds more like a valve thats stuck. if you know your way around an engine take each plug out of the head and run the engine while its still attached to the lead. if all of them give out a tiny spark like an electrical short its definitely a valve issue. if so don't drive it. you might overheat and damage precious components if its on the intake side.
  18. why do you sound a lot like the malla whose family owns Nanda Motors?

    Alfa Romeo

I take it most of you guys buy your parts from singapore or malaysia. So what's the usual procedure? what websites or dealers do shop at? what are the shipping methods and shipping companies used? I'm currently considering buying parts on ebay uk and having them shipped down through glen carriers or trico
  20. So I guess its goodbye Allion and Hello Insight ...and Alfa 156 ...and Range Rover V8

  21. I heard from a neighbor today that most people prefer to buy hybrids unregistered cos they don't have much faith in secondhand and possibly problematic ones. as preposterous as it may sound is there any truth behind this? sounds stupid enough to be true coming from our people.
  22. lately AL has started to look a lot like tbbt. all that happens is bashing men and patronizing women

      couldnt agree more!

  23. I'm guessing you got a g package. the faux wood pieces are clip on. so you can remove them individually. so I suggest you either find someone with a basegrade allion who's desperate for some wood grain on his dash and door panels and swap the pieces. basegrade allions came with this shiny piano black pieces which I found quite classy for some time compared to the overdone wood trim in other expensive models. if you can't find someone who needs them then I suggest you go to a parts shop that brings down allion dashboards and doors and ask them if they wouldn't mind exchanging the pieces. fake wood > plastic. so it should work.
  24. I think our electricians will have no problems replacing the dashboard and engine room harnesses with 121 units. while they are at it they can join the two dashboard harnesses together to make most of the electrics work. the hardest part will be mounting the ignition barrel I guess. why bother? just drop in a 121 steering column and you got proper fully functioning Frankenstein in your hands thats a damn sight more fun than these celary-mobiles
  25. went for a ride in an alfa romeo for the the first time yesterday. the day I buy my first alfa doesn't seem very far away
