  1. Late Dr. Anton Jayasuriya owned THREE Rolls Royces. There's also a fairly new Bentley owned by the proprietor of London Business School. (Hope its ok to mention names here).
  2. At first I also thought this guy is being paid by hybrid car sellers guys but now I too, am inclined to believe that he is actually being PAID by petrolheads to make everyone hate hybrids! Good job Cali!
  3. are u talking about Euronippon?
  4. Isnt that something kings used to wear on the heads?
  5. FYI it was changed to three months recently http://www.dailymirror.lk/news/17181-customs-streamline-carnet-permits.html
  6. The only toyota that I would call marvelous, is this one... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Toyota_Century#Toyota_Century_Royal
  7. Hate to be the bearer of bad news, but if you import a car under Carnet, maximum you can keep it in Sri Lanka is three months. Also you cannot be a residence permit holder for Sri Lanka. There are no taxes for vehicles imported to Sri Lanka under Carnet scheme and you are allowed to run with your UK plates.
  8. FYI, D*MO also uses ASNU equipment for injector cleaning. ASNU is not a local garage but a UK brand (www.asnu.com). It so happens that the guy in Talangama Koswatta is the franchise holder for Sri Lanka and he is licensed to use the ASNU name. That is the reason for the the asnulanka moniker (This is similar to forum member Sylvi, holding the official franchise in Sri Lanka for Novus. The guy runs a small injector service centre but I have visited him twice and he is quite professional in his work.
  9. It's a famous garage trick. Afaik he's not the only one doing this.
  10. U need to convert it to RHD before importing it (unless you are a diplomat).
  11. This has been discussed a few dozen times in this forum and the general consensus is it doesn't work. Let me express this in a clearer way:
  12. Is this a piece of advice u got from a car sale owner?
  13. is this an april fools joke of some sort?
  14. You won't find an EP91 Starlet in good condition for 1.2 Million. I really doubt even if a 2-door one would go for that price. However, considering the spares availability and relatively low maintenance compared with age, that would be a good option. You could also consider EP82 Starlet GT. Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't Honda Beat a 650 CC Keicar? DO u think that's a good idea? I have no idea about spares availability either. Again, AE86 is a legend but anyone who has a well maintained specimen wouldn't really part with it for cheap.
  15. congrats guys... looking forward to see some serious stuff... hope it doesn't become a 'mainstream' program
  16. To be precise, a tubewell with 50 years of experience (Sorry for trolling but couldn't help it)
  17. Let me spice up this conversation a little bit. A sister company (part of the same group) of the local Mahindra agent had a load of Mahindra single cabs in their transport fleet... Obviously the servicing and all was done by them... Within five years of use, all of them had serious corrosion issues and they had to get rid of them And now they swear they won't employ Mahindra in their fleet again... (PS. Mr Wijesinghe, if you think this is a fabrication, do send me a PM and I'll give you all the relevant details about my statement)
  18. He didn't say he WENT to CIS.. he said he's 36 and from CIS... for all we know, he might still be studying there despite of his age... perhaps he flunked every grade thrice... that would explain his immature attitude
  19. Stop feeding this troll. Currently he owns a Audi A4 and some other vehicle. Last week he was looking for a Korando for 3.3MIll. Now he wants ANY cheap-ass diesel vehicle for 2.0-2.5Mill.
  20. Thanon Luang is the place Ive been to (posted by Rohnd above). Afaik there are no trains to that area. You may need to grab a taxi or go to Hua Lamphong MRT station from wherever you are, and grab a taxi there. There are new and used stuff there too. Bit of a Panchikawatta.
  21. Just to add my two cents, if you get yourself an good old Sri Lankan made Exide battery, you can get a free emergency assistance from Exide's Battmobile service if you are around Colombo. On top of it, I've never had any issues with Exide batteries even if they are 2-3 years of age. Not marketing Exide here. I have used 12V Amara Raja (Amaron) lead-acid battery banks in a another industry. They were terrible to say the least.
  22. If you look hard enough and negotiate well, you should be able to get hold of a 110 1500CC Auto for that price. You need to give it time. You can't expect it to happen in a day or two. But please understand that you are looking at the two most overpriced cars in the country.
  23. Wonderful. Now take a trip to Thailand sometime and see how many hybrid cars that you see on the road, compared to normal vehicles. I do visit Thailand once in a while and I can definitely say there are far more hybrids in Colombo than in Bangkok. While I agree that lower emissions are obviously the beneficial for all of us, your argument of presenting hybrids as the only vehicles that do not cause air pollution is beneath contempt.
  24. Your confusion is quite understandable. Our blue collar worker with 50-years of experience is experimenting (or claims to be doing so) with 2T oil on a 4Stroke engine. He currently claims that its successful. The current conclusion is that the engine is running at a lower temperature (Temp indicator is around 39% on the gauge) with 2T compared to without (Temp indicator is around 45% without) and also giving good great fuel economy. To my limited knowledge, every engine has an operating temperature designed by the manufacturer. The ECU and most of the control systems are calibrated to work optimally in this temperature or else there may be adverse effects in the long run. Oh well... I don't have 50-years of experience after all, so who am I to comment?
  25. The forum seems to be full of pussies these days
