  1. only time I regret having all wheel drive is that its hard to spin wheels no matter how you try, not that its important but sometimes I miss that when I feel like making some noise
  2. Well if you do it in a conventional way may be yes. But it looks very simple to open and maintain a company in UK, the costs would be under 4000/GBP year including CPA fees etc. and you can manage it remotely. To be honest I don't have first hand experience in UK but I do have in other countries. Btw your reply is based on personal experience? if so what would be the most complicated aspect in running a company there?
  3. make sense, Im not sure why most of the smaller/midrange local importers are not forming companies in UK to save the additional costs as forming a foreign own company in UK with a VAT ID is extremely easy.
  4. no exactly! germany is within EU so you have to pay VAT there you need to export it outside EU register there and deregister and re export it to LK. IMO, due to the extra shipping/administrative costs this method would only profitable for super luxury vehicles.
  5. From what I see I dont think every importer is getting the VAT refunds or at least UK exporter is keeping a big margin to pass the vat refund to the local importer. But guess local importer their own company in UK can get the full VAT benefit or you can re export it to a different country outside EU and export back to here. https://www.gov.uk/taking-vehicles-out-of-uk/newly-bought-vehicles
  6. yhh most of the local importers are not interested in passing the VAT refunds (or they have no clue) but most of the UK exporters that I have talked with are willing to pass the VAT refund keeping a fee as administrative charges.
  7. it will affect the fuel economy I wouldn't do that if I were you, btw planning to go off road with the extra 00.25 inch ground clearance??
  8. I think you do need to paste it on the windshield, while my wife was driving once a officer stopped the car for not having it in the windshield he didn't fine her but just gave a warning with that being said I have never pasted on my vehicle and was never asked to do so.
  9. I meant they don't I have no problem servicing / repairing LR's directly important I was never asked to register or anything like that but that being said im a long time customer and I not sure they have changed the rules recently. btw their warranty don't cover things such as shocks which costs about over 1 mil to replace on high end LR's
  10. Thanks for the detailed answer, I owe you a beer . So only way to get a brand new RR is to register there pay the 20K GBP VAT/TAX and deregister it and ship it to Sri Lanka? But if you have exporter in UK that get VAT refund you can get a VAT refund when exporting it right? For a RR LWB P400e VAT is about 18K GBP so that lot of money only other way I can think of is to export is to some magic island outside EU register there and re export it to LK
  11. Really? Im not sure about BM's but LR/Jaguar agents do repairs regardless how you have imported it, they can also track your overseas maintenance via the vehicle code. I was assuming all agents were like that lolz.
  12. Hi Guys..... Is it possible to import a brand new vehicle from UK to Sri Lanka without involving our local authorized agent? I'm planning have a UK exporter buy a vehicle from UK authorized agent and import it to sri lanka as a brand new vehicle without registering it there (to save VAT/taxes as a export vehicle). Is this something possible? cheers! everyone have a nice weekend :)-
  13. Yhh hella lot cheaper but the only P400e is not available in UK yet so might need to wait for few months and still im not sure if there's a waiting time/pre order time What about 9 mil gov retirement permit (former $45K) , any idea how much these costs these days?
  14. So you are saying a permit with 5 mil duty concession costs you like 4.8 mil , seriously?? Last time I bring down a vehicle for a permit (few years back) I save little bit more than the permit cost like if the permit costs 5 mil it should save 5-7 mil on taxes otherwise why would anyone bother taking a risk.
  15. Trish_auto, Thanks! I was thinking of importing without a permit. In case if I go for a permit what range of permit would allow to import this? in this case I would probably need a 6-9 mil gov retirement permit?
  16. Guys! Anyone know the custom duty cost to import a new 2018 Range Rover PLUG-IN HYBRID Autobiography with the 2L P400 Petrol Engine? is it around Rs.10 mil? Cheers! old member posting here after a long time....
  17. Hello. I have used most of the original batteries that comes with the vehicle for for 4 years. For the last 10 years I haven't used any other batteries other than Globle. Almost all the time I get 2 years with Globle batteries without any maintenance and there have been times that the water levels might have been bellow the top shell levels. So I guess with proper maintenance you can use a Globle battery for about 2.5-3.5 years.
  18. Most people don't understand this but Mahinda's long term vision is to make luxury vehicles affordable, even for 3 wheel and motorbike riders ... isnt that wonderful
  19. Yes this would be interesting to know. I was thinking Michelin is one of the best but so is the price.
  20. Any particular permit price are you interested in? for luxury vehicles around 15-20 mil a full duty free permit will cost 5-10 mil and for vehicles above 20 mil permit costs over 10mil. these are just rough figures...
  21. man I never said not to buy one. I just said don't expect it to be perfect after the 1st year or so.. and when you run in to problems parts are very rare and local agent may not be able to offer a level of service that you expect from such a luxury brand.
  22. Yes still parts start to fall apart within the first year on in most RR and Disco's. This is not because these care are made cheap but since they have so many parts and electronics... sensors... etc.
  23. yhh its really not a good ida to run a RR/disco over 50,000km and it always gives some trouble... not like its going to breakdown and you have to sit on the road but so many small things start to fall apart. With all that being said if u want a true drivers car nothing can come close to RR or da disco.
