Treading on dangerous ground there buddy... You appear to be saying that the majority of AL users dont respect the truth. What gives you the right to make that accusation? Nobody on the forum hates the toyota brand (well apart from that idiot "toyota sucks"), we respect it for building economical and reliable transportation appliances. Its just that there are quite a few people here who want a bit more than mere A to B transportation out of a car and in that respect things like Allions and Axios really fail to deliver. You say this and yet you go on to whine that other people have opinions that contradict your own. Just like you consider your opinion to be the right one, plenty of others consider theirs to be the right one as well. As for the fuel economy claims... lets just say that the regulars here have used a wide cross section of cars in different circumstances and are therefore experienced enough between them to be able to say with some assurance when some joker is making absurd economy claims. And lets face it mate, 17-18 Kmp/l from a 1.5 liter automatic saloon car in normal (i.e. everyday) driving conditions is pretty darn absurd!

Well for one thing the people who are rushing to buy hybrids these days are doing so chiefly because they are a lot cheaper than comparably sized petrol cars, and also because they are seduced by claims of 30+ KMP/L advertised by the sellers. So yes, it really isnt a stretch to call these folks Economical. People who buy old euros generally fall into two categories: Those who buy them because they are cheap and look cool and those who buy them because they genuinely enjoy the cars. The first category usually end up contributing the "European cars are impossible to run" myth because they cut corners when it comes to repairs and maintenance, which is something a corolla will tolerate far better than an old BMW, Alfa or VW will. Its generally the second category that are referred to as Petrol heads or Enthusiasts or any of the other varied terms that you seem to have a high degree of contempt for.

Ignorance mostly, as well as the so called "conventional wisdom" that has been created by the Toyota loving herds. In the case of VWs rep in Sri Lanka, it was mainly due to the incompetency of CarM*art. The cars themselves do need a bit more care and attention that your average japanese appliance, but they cant exactly be called "unreliable" IMO.

A Perodua Viva is probably a very sensible option in this price range... You COULD maybe consider the new Micro Trend as well. Though I feel the Viva might be the better long term bet overall. Else get yourself a 323, probably the best overall value for money in the price range mentioned.

It begs the question, why do you stick around in that case? Go ahead and find another forum, or better yet go make one of your own. You wont be the first clown who decided to do so after all. Seriously, what the hell is with all these complaining nancy-boys these days? Calling them girls is an affront to women, the way these jokers go on and on... If you dont like it, then GET THE HELL OUT OF DODGE!

Honestly, you dont seem to know anything at all about Volkswagens and it appears to me that you've just decided to get a New Beetle because its cheap and you like the look of it. BAD idea... Like all Euro cars they do have various quirks and issues and one needs to learn how to deal with them. Personally from what youve posted I doubt you will enjoy the experience much overall. So maybe you'd be better off buying a jap car.

Woahhh.... Hella awesome man! That looks absolutely fantastic!
-
Perhaps it would be more prudent to invoke the almighty into granting you some degree of intelligence/sense first?
-
Utter BullS**T. Other than certain rare items that are almost never replaced, most euro car consumables are now readily available in stock with several different sources in Sri Lanka. As long as you know where to look.

Should have learned from harshan... opened the thread and read this reply while talking to one of my sales guys, bugger was properly startled when I burst out laughing... Still LMAO....

Nope, if its the black car with the S4 badges and kit complete with the wheels, Then its a 1.8T with an original MTM chip. Supposedly a flyer!
-
Not to mention push start, "Leather Electric", "Moving Lamps", wanker mirrors and "Corner Pole". Does 140Kmp/L dont you know... Runs entirely on compressed unicorn farts and rainbows too!
-
That would be me too The viva is quite a nice piece of kit.... perfect for the urban cut and rush, save the Beemer for the weekends (Though I Might be tempted by an Alfa of some kind too)
-
You sure it was the 4th? His FB page said 25th of march... :S anyway, if so, Many happy returns of the day DD!

I dunno, personally I think the W140 has a reputation for solidity that it doesnt entirely deserve. This was the car that marked the point that Mercs went from being completely bulletproof cars that would go on for ever and started turning into over gizmo'd barges. My fave S class is the older W126, truly the last really old school Merc. Srill, they are impressive cars I guess, most of the cars here are 280s or 320s and Ive seen one red car with V12 badges though I dont know if it really has a 12. Never seen a 500 here myself but its long been called the ideal spec if you can live with the thirst. http://www.honestjohn.co.uk/carbycar/mercedes-benz/s-class-w140-1991 That link should help. From personal experience I've seen quite a few of them at D*MO with various random electrical issues. Lots of motors in that car and none of them are cheap!

Oh wow... there speaks an expert! Guys, I think the rest of us should now stop talking as the final word has been said by the almighty cefiro driving overlord isurujosh! How could we EVER have thought of driving these old, cramped up, broken euro cars? probably because we aren't in the same intellectual league as the great IJ with his 15 year old Nissan (which OF COURSE is a paragon of quality and reliability and space and economy and so on).

Kia Sorento/ Hyundai Santa Fe 2010/2011 Gear Box Issues?
Supra_Natural replied to kaushama's topic in General Automotive
The 2011 Models are relatively recent entrants to the market here and anyway our driving conditions and mileages are nothing like those in the US. So IMO I'm guessing its too early to see if any of these vehicles throw up issues in Sri Lanka. It'll probably take a while longer to start hearing about any incidents. Worth keeping an eye on though. -
Check dates on posts before you reply to them. The post that you're quoting is nearly 3 years old, the laws have changed since then.

Google has this wonderful new thing called "Google Image Search". You should give it a try sometime! I tell ya, the things these Internet people come up with, Mind Blasting!! Sigh, just go through the classifieds on the site. Its not exactly a rare beast now is it? Alternatively, go stand outside in any street with a camera for 15 minutes. Im sure you'll get enough pictures.

In that case, you really shouldnt be considering spending over 3.5 Million rupees on a Japanese econobox.
-
Yeah absolute minimum for a 260 is gonna be about 4.5 Mill. So a 240 Premio looks like your best bet.
-
You havent yet mentioned what your exact budget is. 260 Allions range from roughly 4.5 Million to upwards of 6 Million depending on factors such as: Year, Spec, greed or arrogance of seller, stupidity and gullibility of buyer etc.

Hats off once again to BRJW! Mind if us gawkers come along and have a drool?

Yeah. Eating for pleasure would be when you save up, treat yourself and your significant other to a fancy dinner at a really nice restaurant and have a bloody good time. Eating to live is when you have your standard three meals a day to keep from starving. Clear enough for ya, Einstein?

Nope... the prius is NOT a fun car to drive. Unless your definition of fun and your definition of dull are equal.
