  1. Man do you keep track of the CSE?? Trends??? Get real! The more you comment the less I understand what you're about. And about the Axio; can you tell me (as I really don't know) the price of an unregistered Corolla before the tax cut. With all due respect, I seriously think Pakistan must be looking for boats now and not cars And could someone enlighten me on how big is SL's demand for 2nd hand vehicles in Japan? 1-5% or more?
  2. Thats it. I'm giving up. Selling my car for the highest bidder so that I can buy a car for 1.5MN
  3. I think he said NOT to use car names\brand\model
  4. If we all do sell our cars right away then the price will go down. And what prices do we sell at the buyers opinion of "Current Market price" or the price the seller is comfortable with?
  5. Not TRUE it happened on the Toyota thread and in that the post started off describing the actually advertised car as a good buy!
  6. And your handle is "CK2"??? Driven both the 110 and FB15. Like the Nissan better. But a friend has a 323 which actually is quite good as well.
  7. I've been to Upul once and to Stafford thrice. Stafford play as dirty a game as any small time Mech. A friend at office swear by Upul and I've seen a few compliments on AL. Hence my request for an"insight". Also am due for a T-belt change so was wondering whether to go with Upul or Stafford Also I think I read on AL or heard that Upul used to be with Stafford before venturing out on his own. Not sure if its true

    true dat..
  9. Climate control also came with the model you mentioned. Also the Super has touch button Ac while the Ex has dials. The grey color band isn't a indicator IMHO. I think 1.8 is too much. But thats my opinion. (The car market HAS crashed and all that ) @Sifaan the price difference between the Ex and Super is, or should be, around 100k. Chamal was obviously told that the Super saloon is in his budget so he wanted to get more information and turned to AL. Perhaps he expected to validate his choice after everyone pointed out the differences... My two cents of psychoanalysis!!
  10. A little insight on this please? PM if required
  11. So which Toyota is this??
  12. Hey mate. I guess its a different market dynamic that works in SL. Both in the CSE and the Car market. Hopefully we can upgrade our cars huh..
  13. The fact that this very car is on the classifieds is highly suspicious.
  14. Well to be fair to L board and his gang, I think they predicted a crash in 3 months time. And its only 2 and a half still. So we actually have 15 days before we can take L Board and his economic theory apart
  15. Thanks guys for the wishes. I understand the reason Insurance (Aviva in my case) wont pay for BN parts. Don't think I can talk my way in to them paying more although I might be able to negotiate some of the changes\points. I though about this but I don't have anybody who can do this . Its a 2000 ES8. @ Harshana, its the cost that made me wanna look at other options. My contribution for the whole repair works to about 90K. Also initially they wanted to replace anything remotely affected by the accident such as the door and the hood both of which only suffered "slight" dents @Peri, didn't try Kenzo. Do they use recon parts without me having to provide them and will they maintain quality (at least in the finish). CRC is in Jaela right? Today I went in to Staffords and spoke to the head foreman(Kusumsiri) he agreed to repair certain parts which they originally wanted to replace (door and hood) and to use recon parts if I source them(mirror, fender, bumper and headlight). I thought this was the best option as I have been assured that the agents are the best people to do the job. Guess apart from the relative hassle of hunting for the parts at Delkanda this makes sense yeah?

  17. Hi Guys Need a bit if urgent advice. Met with a accident last week and the left front fender, fron bumper, left headlight, left side mirror, mudguard need to be replaced. Tinkering required for the hood, door and other fender. Some work maybe required for the suspension as per Staffords. There estimate is 445K cos they billed for new doors, hood, mirros etc(and painting). My cost will be about 85-90K after insurance. Please advice if you guys know anywhere\anybody within colombo. I can run around hunting for parts as I will be in hospital from tomo for surgery to fix broken cheekbone and nose! Appreciate your help.
  18. Yeah agreed Saw this earlier at work and wanted to bring it up. Seriously the writer sounds not just cynical but aggressive towards anyone selling a car. Granted there are some ridiculous prices floating around but man this dude is acid...
  19. Wanna know my opinion? When the tax increases the price of a unregistered or brand new vehicle, the segment of the market who cant afford to reach the new price (and this is a very large segment) are compelled to look for a cheaper variant of the vehicle or a second hand vehicle. Demand for the second hand vehicle increases and price increases as a result. In this case with the price of a new vehicle will come in to the range of a considerable segment BUT not as large as you would think. Believe it or not; not everybody can stretch their budgets from 1.6 to 2.6. But the chances of them stretching it from 2.6 to 3 mn are quite higher. And that is why I believe that the cars at the two extremes are going to be hit the worst. Cars in the middle should not be effected as much IMHO. Now I'm not sure of the exact effect of the tax on the price of a new FB 15. (maybe you with your direct line to A*W can advise me) but will it come down to the 1.5 mn for the 1999-2000 FB 15? I don't think so. So for a person who can afford only 1.5 and wants to buy a Sunny then he can scream all he wants about the tax reduction but.... Likewise we can assume that the person who can afford to buy a Maruti brand new now will do so as the difference between the BN and the second hand is not as challenging to bridge hence the expected drop in that part of the market. And you might want to look at the previous posts. Most of us think there will be an effect of a moderate reduction in prices of the cars in the middle of the spectrum . A crash is not the reduction of 400k to 500k mate its alot more. Having said all that the most expected reason for a mass drop in prices is if panic mongers keep spreading the "market is gonna crash so sell soon" mantra. Most Sri Lankas are easily persuaded so lets wait and see what happens. If your right then great! I can buy a new car! PS Today a friend told me that De Silva motors had valued a 2006 Vios at 1.8 MN! And that constitutes a market crash!!! LOL so we are told, Let us know when you find the 'one'
  20. sorry double post
  21. so you're saying the same car can be imported for 1.4 (newer YOM obviously)
  22. Rebel

    Nissan Rocks!

Aren't these two tested on metrics that are not key requirements of the market they are produced for? In other words does acceleration from zero, handling really matter to those buying this particular Merc?
  23. Agreed. 1.2 is EG & FB14 territory me thinks.. Unless the much debated 'crash' happens in which case you could buy an Allion, Camry or SUV
  24. @LBoard your sarcasm really drips.... Each person would buy a maruti for several reasons. 1. It could be that they are inexperienced and dont want the hassle of regular maintenance 2. They may have wanted to buy a decent jap (or euro) car but couldn't get one in decent condition so decided to compromise with the same priced but newer maruti 3. They could be price conscious and a stickler for yom so bought the maruti 4. They may perceived the smaller car as a better city car 5. The could be brand conscious. 6. The fuel efficiency of the car could be a reason and so on. The reasons are endless. As you yourself said you car measure the whole by the part.. So consumer would react differently to the new prices. But in general I stand that it'll be the cars at the two extremes that are hit most..
  25. This is exactly what I said or think I said previously. It;ll be cars at the higher and lower end of the spectrum that are effected as the price difference between a second hand car and a recon will be much lower than before. This means the vios's 121, maruti's. Cars in the price bracket 1.5 to 2.2/3 wont be effected, The difference between a new and used honda is still considerable. The segment that can afford only a second hand car will still only be able to afford a second hand car.. A 'crash' in any true sense is not going to happen even if the SL car market is driven by market dynamics.
