    Removing Paint Dots

Once I wiped some dots / overspray with diesel, requires a bit of elbow grease, no issue with the underlying paint, one can get carried away with rubbing compound you know..

Getting back to you on the fuel figures After complete filter oil change etc First tankful Same Pump, same usual run arounds 15-16kmpl (gain) Second tankful Same pump, same usual run arounds more or less the same 9-10kmpls (usual)

  4. I was told my ones got one, It boosts in 3 stages , i reckon the Variable geometry doing its thingy. The Thailand model had all badged and blinged about it whilst the others were silent. All these models have over 300lb-ft of torque stock, and going bi-turbo?
  5. Yup true, they don't have the bungee action, sure is handy when you don't have anything around.
  6. Yup mate seatbelts work big time, they even use them to life engine blocks diffs etc, pulled my land rover out of block 2 once, the issue is the length though and not that beneficial when winching etc They do have a massive load rating and tensile strength. However i'd prefer a steel wound cable, with the D- shackles at the end. I've seen regular off-roaders use a tensioner cable from the Lamps and electricity posts, massive gauge steel wound with huge steel loops at the ends, the sort that anchors the posts to the ground from either side.
  7. How about one of those EG Civic SIRs? I recall a few mint examples for sale packing serious power..if thats what you prefer
  8. No machan its attached to the engine run by a cog on the timing belt inside the cover. Also do replace the injector nozzles while you are at it, I guess around Rs.1000-2500 per piece (x4), Had a similar problem and it lasted the even after a rebuild, then swapped a pump, on-checking the nozzle tips were burnt, affecting fuel delivery. Thus the best outcome was seen only after I replaced injectors last week. Adds more to the end result. If you've done over 300,000km without touching the pump, it must be pretty much on its last legs Apparently injector nozzles need to be replaced every 100,000km or so Also do check if there is a diesel line filter, not the fuel filter thats commonly changed but a second filter on the line, hidden away under a wheel arch etc. Usually present in heavy duty vehicles; can clog up and cause mayhem.
  9. Astounded by the sheer numbers reaching the country, this and the Fit.. Maybe due the affordability point as well, as its a brand new suv in the 5-6 mil bracket and massive peer pressure on attractive lease facilities for them hybrids.

Let me finish this tank, I can do the math and let you know.

I am noticing a massive gain in kmpl though (shamefully).

    Diesel Standards

True when wondering about the Beamers, Mercs etc but still those also the availability varies based on permits and agent prices isn't it, there maybe other factors that i'm not aware of. In my case I'd have to opt for the Diesel variant based on the torque and the availability. Resale value is my last concern but when we take an opinion from the general public diesels somewhat have value based on the vehicle. For Example a petrol Defender or Double cab is rather detested compared to a Petrol SUV thus this governs the importers as their business runs on catering the market. Besides i'm sure even at this cost, a stock common rail does about 15kmpl (mine is hideously less) still on the cheaper side when you do the math. But then again repairs can rain on your parade, then again people buy hybrids knowing the system will pack sooner or later and cost a fortune but yet focus on the 'present' or momentary saving. So I guess its a matter mostly of choice, but so far I can vouch in my personal case its still cheaper to run than a V6 gasoline (2GR-FE)
  13. Could anyone please help me with the wiring for the auto-door setup for a noah? and the mechanism? Thank you

Better than paying Rs. 65000+ x 4 for injectors every 10000-30000 km with En-coding fees to Toyota Lanka / Respective agent on a modern common rail.

I was actually rather enthusiastic about this, waited till it was launched, ran till the light was on, changed the fuel filter, rushed to the filling station next morning for a tankful, been running on it to date. Well in terms of performance I see no gains, maybe a bit of a loss on the low-end, maybe my paranoia, however I do note that it made the engine bit smoother and quieter and a slight reduction of the emission opacity. Give it a shot!
  16. U need to verify the Chip No /ID based on the Year of Manufacture, also note if you only have a keyfob or also an embedded immobilizer chip, if so u need to find the blank keyfob with that, also note any special markings on the blade, as the seller will ask this to rule off your model, Find an item, communicate with the seller to verify if it matches you 100% as they ll give you the criteria I've had an issue similar to yours and purchased a genuine blank and got it sorted under $100, as for the criteria, mine was very easy Buy the complete key with internals ($50-$100), not the key cover / shell ($2-$10) Pray the parcel won't get held up in customs
  17. Get the unit from eBay under $100 usd and get it programmed by a local place, people specialized in car audio / security systems and ECU related work can help you, for Toyota they charge 4000-5000.
  18. Engine was not at all noisy, I was referring to the road noise coming inside and the harsh suspension which was rather noisy. My drive was in hill country as stated As for the Aqua, There was no pedal delay, more or less the engine revving up slowly and or a delay in the motor system to kick in. Only the eco meter responded fast I'm not that educated on the hybrid system or its dynamics and not interested frankly, just gave an overview as an old fashioned motorist.
  19. Yup, True mate after issues like this it looks like a risk worth taking even with a newer car especially compared to premiums well over 75k Also another thing I learnt, there was one lower level employee not known to me by any means before and not having any benefit from my scenario in the above institution, this gentlemen worked really hard to get me some justice over this matter, made me realize that the so called educated hierarchy of these institutions pull of these scams mostly and the inferiors take the crap.
  20. So today I receive a cheque of Rs.48000 as advance, The total quotation for parts was some Rs.114000 odd excluding bodywork etc. They say they pay 60% as advance and the rest later, yet they fail to state the amount passed for the claim until the bills are produced. So doing the math pretty much they've chopped of Rs. 30000-35000 off the original sum.
  21. My views on the Aqua G grade, after having a decent drive on a friends car; Looks; Exterior rather pleasing to the eye and feels well made, however the interior is quite plasticky, looks decent, more budget oriented than quality. Cow friendly. Decent aircon and ample leg and headroom. Decent space behind the rear seats enough to accomodate 1 large suitcase. Display / Speedo rather confusing but once taught one can understand. The audio / video unit is totally incomprehensible as its in Jap Rear view much obscured with or without passengers, factory fitted camera is handy for a newbie Feel; Rather noisy uncomfortable suspension (car had done under 10000km), Seriously underpowered noted on hilly regions, hideous throttle response. Lot of road noise even on standard tyre pressures. Nice Light steering with decent response, Economy; the bugger said it does 50kmpl at times, rendering me mute Not my cup of tea, but hope this helps you with your decision
  22. True mate, but in my situation I got this in 2011, used ticked only 10000+ miles as per odo, I've pretty much over-insured its value.. As for the parts my god the prices! I replaced the tail light off my pocket, Started on the body work as well, If this claim doesn't work out I'll probably have to shell out almost 1.5x my premium after buying the bumper. In a country like ours where bus drivers rear end cars and smile, and a bumper costs hideous figures, I decided a full cover would save me Thus I decided to fully insure now ending in this fate. I had used J******k*i previously, in service-wise they were amazing, total claim settled under 1 day and they pretty much over-settled the claims in my case, as i'm overseas most of the time, I arranged this policy through a broker. sigh'
  23. Been a Week to-date, they are still refusing to pay as the say that they Bumper in Toyota Lanka Wattala is cheaper than the one in Kandy. Still no progress. Will update.
  24. Bringing up an old thread to let you guys know how the F**** P*** now known as Motor Plus is functioning Few days ago while parked, the Hilux was rear ended by and unknown vehicle, pretty much hit and run, did the usual call and the guy on the bike came, pretty much agreed with the whole situation, did not ask for police reports etc. As per their request I got quotations for the Chrome rear bumper and the tail light, due to unavailability I had to resort to Toyota Lanka where the have the bumper but quoted 89K. The light was of course no issue Ever since the relative personnel in the above insurance office saw this, they have been finding various ways to chop this down. Initially they came up with a clause saying that my vehicle (personal import UK) falls into the reconditioned category thereby they will only pay for reconditioned parts, and they will reduce 5% per year from the YOM leading to a total deduction of 25% of the total sum of the repair. The above reputed company calls shady joints all over and say that this Tom Dick and Harry can give it for this sum etc, whereas these people need to be called and waited for under a tree till they show up to let alone shops and quotations Furthermore today the so-called engineer from the above company says that only the chrome bit of the bumper can replaced and he inquired from Toyota Lanka, on inquiring from them it was a laughing matter as this bumper is an oem single piece. On calling him it turned out into an arguement and this man slammed the phone saying until he verifies this the claim will go no further. Due to my busy schedule I failed to take this to him today, Also he is asking for a "fixing charge quotation" when I say its a simple job that my mechanic can attend to. Seemed like he is just fooling about due to some reason and delaying the matter. Been over 4 days to date and they are still not approving the claim let alone advance or cheques etc and finding ways to cut down the total sum of the repair. for all you Autolankans, if there is a hit and run somehow catch the person sigh', and choose your Insurance provider wisely.
  25. For the Kandy Chaps; There is a Garage by the name of Weerasinghe Motors, bit into the Katugastota Guhagoda area about 1km from the Katugastota Bridge along the Katugastota- Gannoruwa Road (Guhagoda road), ( pls pm for more info on the location) Have dealt major / minor repairs with almost all our vehicles including my former Defender since 2000 Reasons for Recommendation - Very experienced, fast repairs (pops a cv joint in and out in 30min), no malingering and fooling about. Rather trustworthy as I have left my vehicles for weeks. Cons- No lathe / welding related bits No electrical repairs
