  1. iRage, your post is very valuable. I have 3 options. I can bid on a car (Via his bidding site) and win it and inform to the importer. Then I can open a LC and get it down here with the help of him too. The importer has already bid on certain vehicles and I can choose one and then pay him to bring it down. Visit importers showroom and buy it after inspecting the car. The no 1 is kind of risky for a person like me (I have to learn many things I guess) who has no bidding experience (even in eBay I choose Buy It Now option ) and most probably I will loose so much than winning. Under No 2, According to the importer, He bid on vehicles below 15000Km of usage which he claims that it is worth than buying a brand-new when it consider the amount that we have to pay for a 0 mileage car. The vehicles won is reserved in Japan and once we select one, it will be brought down here. (No LC is needed) No 3 will cost more compared to both 1 and 2 & also may fall in to cars that has been repaired and done such things we discussed before. According to importers explanations, I kind of felt that the number 2 will be ideal for me. However, your replies will be very valuable for me to decide because I will be able to make a decision considering all the facts. ( I don't mind paying a bit more which is fair for both parties ) So please comment. Thanks.
  2. Well, If I am going to import a vehicle with the help of a known person who has experience of importing cars, What certificates should I see to know the real facts of the car that I virtually see on my screen ( While bidding or as auction pics ) ? Thanks in advance for the replies.
  3. Hi Guys, I was looking for a Honda FIT Hybrid GP5 and after visiting many places in couple of weeks time, I met few people who helped me to understand the reality of Car Sales and Imports. I almost shocked by hearing and what SL importers ( Not ALL ) do. It was about cut a car in half, bring it down here as separate parts and weld them ( Assume there has to be a more technical term than "Weld" ) together and sell them through Car Sales around the country. (Again not in all car sales) However, I was not able to buy a GP5 and price went up (Recently) and was asked to wait few more months at least till December by a friend of mine who bring down cars. I just shared these to let know the people who still don't know (like myself a couple of months back). Also finally, I would like posting / advising me a better way of getting a GP5 ( I mean without being trapped to such places) Thanks.
  4. Aquaman Any pics yet? No need a final one. But something that will show how it is so far. ?
  5. According to what I understood so far, a vehicle is not something that has 4 wheels, chassis, engine and a body, especially when it comes to Europe ones which is not older than at least 2 decades. Things you post here gives us less meanings unless you actually prove it by posting actual pics of those conversions and may be a video. I have restored a very old vehicle which she had her 41th birthday on last January and I know if something I did without knowing the theory of it, It collapse like WTC on Sep 11th. So, keeping things original is the most ideal one and if something needs to be changed, it should do in a correct way like Jonathan Ward I see some older Mercedes and Europe cars have had engine transplants (Mostly from Petrol to Diesel) and look what has happened to such cars. There is a chance that someone can do it perfectly but a Baas won't be unless he is not having a master of engineering on Mechanic and Electrical (Electronics...etc) which may not a paper qualification but know what he does. All these concerns will be answered if you could post some pics to this thread with the details attached to it. Otherwise what you are trying to say is not really worth even if we know what is an engine transplant.
  6. Can you post some pics of such modified car? (Engine bay and other changed parts) Thanks.
  7. Well, I have met him few times. For now he is old enough to rest most of the time in the day than working at his work shop. I respect him for the knowledge he has with older autos and electrical stuff. He helped me with generating higher AMPs with my existing alternator and it was successful (1974 vehicle)
  8. What is the manufacturing year of that car?
  9. Assuming you try to say that people look only the look of a car; It is not always correct. Some may do but most don't. Its true most fall in to brand loyalty and things like that but the original condition of the car is always valued. You may alter what is inside but it will not give additional value to it unless it is a genuine job to enhance the performance of any part of the vehicle. And most probably if you do such modification, hopefully you will keep the car forever.
  10. Six figures?
  11. which means, not worth to buy such cars in SL (Assuming garages means to repair) ?
  12. Guys, Sometime back, I remember there were many 320Ds on the road. May be because of the permits and all. But nowadays It seems I hardly see one of them. Any idea what has happened? Any common issue or something? Appreciate if you can share something. Thanks
  13. https://goo.gl/maps/BLBV1 Not a carpeted road but you will enjoy.
  14. I searched on few places for this conversion and some quoted very high amount. As per them, I should replace all the parts including wheels. So It is a mess and very costly. I went with this modification because it does nothing to the axles but only replacing the relevant parts. It cannot be done by a newcomer to the field but only by an experienced person. I saw their first conversion which is kind of 2 decades old and happy with it. It had never given any trouble so far. I also noticed the thickness of the disc and had no idea why is it so. May be to avoid overheating or be more strengthened because its not a ventilated disc as OEM part. I had breaking issues as I mentioned above (I heard its common to all 4DR5s) and now i feel the vehicle is more stable and very easy to handle while applying brakes (both unplanned and quick applying conditions such as driving off road [Not Hardcore though]) So it kind of makes me to do the conversion on the rear wheels as well may be sometime later.
  15. Yes there are places where you can get discs fabricated. I heard they make vented rotors too but expensive.
  16. Ask anything.. Those are Pajero parts (Except Disc) and disc is molded for the block of this vehicle wheels. Master Cylinder was upgraded sometime back and hence It was good enough. Again it was also a Pajero one.
  17. Guys, Good day ahead! I got the front wheel brakes converted from drum to disc of my jeep and the pics attached below. The known issue of 4DR5 Jeeps which is the inability to be stable by the time of applying brakes because of the fact that the shoes engage to the drum at different intervals. So the result is the vehicle to move left or right suddenly when the brake applies. When Speeding at 80Km/h or so, it gets worse because there is possibility of facing an accident. The issue was solved with the disc brake conversion and now it feels the difference while braking specially at the moments said before.

  20. Added here with the images. The camera is auto adjusted to the brightness and therefore you won't see it 100%. But you may get an idea. [ Without LED 27W Spot Lights] [ With LED 27W Spot Lights]
  21. You may consider Horana Cushion at Horana. Their work is better. Show your car and get a quotation.

    Car Cool Box

What would you suggest if the temperature need to be reduced below 15c? For that case thermoelectric/ Peltier coolers won't be effective isn't it? (As the difference is like 20c? )
