  1. What do you mean Miniace?
  2. It must be quite hard to drive it around when its really sunny. Imagine all the glare
  3. You should be banned from answering this
  4. Come on ur making it too easy
  5. Well the old A series engines were probably never designed with emission testing in mind in the old days. Correct me if Im wrong but as I remember most of the 1970's british cars that were made for the US markets had slight mods to the carbs and engines (this made the bhp go down as well) to adhere to the emission regulations there but the other cars (for UK and rest of the world) this was not done.
  6. Yes you are right there Devinda. Looks like they ran out of steel to do the roof
  7. Looks like a big tractor looking at the front wheel. 3.4m high that more like a big truck nice view from up there
  8. Yeah corruption is so widespread from the top to the bottom. This should be the first thing to sort out. There is so much of this going on that it has almost become the norm these days. Such a pity that these people cant be honest and law abiding and do the jobs properly.
  9. So I guess this doesnt effect the VET then. Has anyone here tested a very old car and passed? I wonder how old vehicles will do at this test.
  10. I guess it could be both of the above reasons plus the big players probably would require state of the art modern production lines and highly trained personnel. I guess we just dont have that kinda money to spend of modern equipment so these cheap manufacturers are the option as fas as I know all these car assebly lines are only doing assembly of vehicles which are brought down in semi knocked down form right? So very little is needed to put together a factory to build these. So SKD offers a viable option for the manufacturer sell low volumes as our domestic market is small.
  11. All these chinese trucks on the market are they good and reliable? If they are reliable and cheap its good for the people who buy them I guess. And if these vehicles do drive down the prices of vehicles it would be good for the consumer.
  12. Zoyte to assemble vehicles in Lanka Hiran H.Senewiratne ######## Lanka Plc (UML) has been awarded the approval for a vehicle assembly plant from a leading Chinese vehicle manufacturer/ exporter Zoyte. The company is now in the process of awaiting domestic institution approvals to go ahead with the project, UML Chief Executive Officer Shanaka Yatawara told Daily News Business. Zoyte one of the leading small car and medium sized jeep manufactures and exporters in China have principally given the approval for the assembly plant in Sri Lanka. Speaking to Daily News Business he said once the required approvals are granted from domestic institutions such as the Register of Motor Vehicles, the Ministry of Industrial Development, and other local Government bodies, they will decide the nature of the assembly plant which will specially target the domestic market in the initial stages. This approval is a conditional long term business venture and has not decided the nature of the plant because of the pending government approvals due to manifold reasons, Yatawara said. “Zoyte is an up and coming Chinese automaker but it certainly is a forward looking company keeping up with current trends in the auto market,” he said. After having gone green earlier this year with a highway-speed electric SUV, this month Zoyte has closed a co-branding agreement with Fiat, the Italian automaker. Fiat Multipla and Lancia Lybra will go under the Zoyte branding and it is rumored that more of the Fiat models might be bought in the near future by the Chinese brand. Zoyte seems thus to be quite aggressively trying to build its brand. Investing in designs and corporate image on Zoyte, which might just be another rising from nowhere to become an up and coming Chinese auto brand. Things took a decisive turn in 1989, when it was selected as the first government venture for peopelisation. In May that year, ######## Lanka Limited was born. The company was listed with the Colombo Stock Exchange a few months later. The company has since grown in strength and reputation, guided by the vision to be the best company in the country through diversification. Their corporate strategy has proved highly successful. UML maintained the leadership position by consistently providing high quality products, services and transport solutions to a discerning clientele. Today, UML PLC is a major player in Sri Lanka’s motor trade. UML has a long history and its roots can be traced back to ######## Limited, which was formed in 1945. The business was acquired by the Government in 1972. It emerged as the market leader for Japanese vehicle imports in 1988, having entered into a distributor agreement with Mitsubishi Motors Corporation three years earlier. 13. If the gear oil is still leaking it could be due to a worn oil seal on the input shaft (main shaft). Are you sure it is gear oil that is leaking because it could also be engine oil that is leaking from the rear crank shaft oil seal. Which ever one it is if it keep leaking you will have to get it replaced.
  14. Devinda It sometimes works if you reload the page a few times. Sorry I dont know of any other way of putting the images on the forum. Can always e mail No the cars are in Switzerland near the capital Bern.

  16. Are you talking about an A/C Compressor? Are you trying to retrofit a A/C unit to a mini?
  17. what sorta cars have you got rotting away? any nice ones?
  18. Only 100K km's Thats quite low. Is that engine have such a short life? What needs doing when it wears out? is it just changing the rotors or does it involve a lot of work
  19. I am thinking you were tying to see if any compression was leaking out through the oil lid? What you should look for is a kida smoke (compression gas from inside the cylinder) coming out when you open the oil lid. If the pistons or rings are worn this would leak the gas from inside the compression chamber and would escape when you open the oil lid. Oild spitting out doesnt mean the engine is worn.

    Price Check

hmm 1 mil for a herald would be a bit too much I think. I dont think there are lot of those knocking about anyway dont see them very often. yeah about 10 years ago 40-50k would have been ok. I think a healey sprite was sold late 90's for about 450k if i remember right. Incidentally the triumph herald is very similar mechanically to the spitfire well the chassis is almost identical.

    Price Check

No way a 7 would be worth that much. As Helrazor said maybe maximum of about 1 mil if its in good condition. The thing is with classic cars in SL there are so few that the seller can really demand quite high prices if its a rare car. To asnwer you question rman Triumph Spitfire - There was a very nice 1500 that was for sale abt 8 years ago for about 1.5 mil I think. There was another one in the paper about 4 years ago which I had a look at but cant rememeber the price. Austin Healey Sprite - I am unaware of one changing hand recently. We found one about 4 years ago but it only the body that was left which was totally corroded and we bought it for 200k. A sprite would probably be about 2.5-3 mil or more but thats if any of the people who own them are willing to sell which I doubt. Austin A40 - this should be more than a few hundred thousand rupees I guess. Triumph Herald (1960-1970) - As above but the convertible ones might be a bit more I guess Morris 8 (1940's era) - No idea on these Sunbeam Talbot- No idea on these
  22. Oooh I didnt see this. I havent been online for a few days. Gummy is correct its a TR3. Must say it looks very nice
  23. I think buying a Karcher would be better than getting a cheap chinese. You have to use it carefully as you can damage it if you have it on for too long (I have used one for quite some time) but the thing is atleast with a Karcher you have the ability to get it reapaired as you have agents and parts available. Also have to use it carefully as you can damage the paint work if the pressure is too high and you hold it too close to the paintwork.
  24. My bulbs are 501 inside the headlamp unit. These were the ones I got http://www.autobulbsdirect.co.uk/501-led-s...1-pr-16702.html These people do free worldwide delivery but Im not sure how the pries compare with what you can get in SL
  25. Hmm very much like a Porsche but looks nice. Back reminds me of a TVR
