  1. True :-) Actually that was K&N filtering 99% of dust and 1% getting through. That was in the above articles BLu3HaZe mentioned. And yeah, I get your point.
  2. A fantastic read bro! Thanks! I'm sure that 1% for K&Ns here in Colombo would mean an awful lot. Was quite evident with the dust layer in my MAF which was about one millimeter in thickness.
  3. Yeah machang, an OBD reader.
  4. Yeah. Thanks for the suggestions mate! AEM Dryflow filter seems to be really interesting.
  5. This one is from US.
  6. No machang, filter is relatively new and can run couple of thousand kms before it needs cleaning. Problem is not with the filter itself but the air that's coming through it is more dusty compared to air filtered through a paper filter. And this extra dust is messing with the MAF. Also I got to know that certain car manufacturers will void warranty for the MAF if you install a K&N air filter. Notably Mazda.
  7. If anyone is wondering what "carnet" is, "Carnets are “Merchandise Passports.” They are international customs documents that simplify customs procedures for the temporary importation of various types of goods." http://www.uscib.org/index.asp?documentID=1843
  8. Although I don't drive one I've only heard good things from people who've used it. If you get one, make sure you get it inspected regularly. A good rule of thumb is to do the inspection at every "service". Usually for Toyota's and Nissans change oil, oil filter, clean the air filter consists as a "service" in most service joints. If you follow this you'll end up spending a lot for repairs. If you decided to get it new, then of course nothing will happen for a few years but things will build up over time. Go down the route of preventive maintenance and your machine will please you ... and your pocket!
  9. Thanks for sharing your views guys. Appreciate it!
  10. Not only that machang, I've seen folks fitting cone filters without a filter wrap. Couple of friends complained during the last couple of rainy months that their cars stopped abruptly. Only to find out that water has been sucked up through the cone.
  11. Has anyone experienced MAF going nuts due to use of K&N filters? My MAF is getting dusty like nothing and have cleaned it using the contact cleaner a couple of times. Have anyone else experienced the same? Comparing a K&N to a normal paper filter, I see large holes and it's no wonder dust going through it. Wondering whether you guys follow any preventive measures for protecting the MAF besides having to clean it at every service.
  12. Machang Uncle, your figure is very subjective as there are people who run ~10k km a month and there are people running a lot less. For example I average about 600 - 700 a month. For the sake of argument let's say I run 1500km a month. Then if I used a brand new car, I would do about 180k for 10 years. That's why pulling random numbers from your arse is annoying. Not to get your blood pressure up Uncle but kinda thinking aloud.
  13. Awesome stuff jdnet! BTW .. as newer cars coming with lotsa electronics would you consider getting a device that reads fault codes a worthy investment?
  14. I sure hope we'll educate all drivers about the infamous blind spot. Turn your head around and see before you change a lane.
  15. True that. I guess more business to be made like http://ihitadeer.com/ ;-)

    Toyota Belta

I can only speculate but I think it's because of the extra belts that's built into the Belta machang. I hear it has won the safest car in 2010 because of this exact feature. Additional belts. M Navy, go for the Belta bro. You'll enjoy this safest ride I'm sure. Demotivate wenna epa machang Belta ekak ma ganin
  17. Ah, sweet! Popcorn tiem!
  18. Given these two choices I would select the Aria. Comes in 1.5cc and being good overall. Take good care of it and do the services at the right time, it'll serve you well :-)
  19. Yes, if you can find one at that price range. I've not heard any major problems with the car. Probably because it's still very new. With the A/C on, for a 4 seater sedan it's a bit underpowered for my tastes. But that's subjective. Fuel figures, it's safe to assume that you'll get 10km per liter. You might get a slightly higher fuel efficiency at the beginning because the everything is new and in good shape. Be weary of absurd fuel figures people pull from their nether region though.
  20. I've been told by an electrician a few years back not to do this for newer vehicles which has more electrical parts and sensors. He further told me that it's fine against an old battered car but for newer vehicles you shouldn't do that because it might damage the electrical parts. Does that still hold?
  21. Someone, kill me please ...
  22. I heard the newer guns are lazer guns which have to have a line of sight to work? So the moment the device is beeped you're recorded on the device. Is it not the case?
  23. Not advisable mate. If they opened it, worse case they'll keep the device or you might end up having to pay the bugger. I just love the fact that our folks still think bringing an internet router is a "threat to national security" or some sh*t like that. Heard many stories about having to get approval from TRC and a whole load of nonsensical crap. And for a radar detector?? Huh, surely few years behind bars!
  24. ORLY? Yet another proud Sri Lankan moment I presume - http://blog.maxthon.com/?p=158
  25. I found the following TED talk really interesting. Includes making of the Nano, among other things.
