Buying A Bmw E32 730I 1994. Need Pointers!!!
CARBON B4 replied to ssahank's question in Car Buying Information
Maybe slightly off track but is it true that most of the BMW X1 and the 3 series are made in India ? -
You question is quite simple but there is a lot more to it. The basic principle of Insurance is that the insurance company should be able to pay for any accidental damage and put the car back in to its original condition. Therefore what you pay for the car is irrelevant and whats important is the market value or replacement value of the car. This means if you buy a Maruti 800 ( just giving an example, its a good car ) and insure it for Rs 3 Million, and bust the car beyond repair ( get it condemned ) the insurance company will still not pay you Rs 3 Mil, they will only replace the car for you by paying the market value of a Maruti. The exact opposite is when you under insure it, which most of us do since the premium is a direct variable of the sum insured. This is ok as long as its not a big difference you can get away with it, but if you meet with a big accident most insurance companies will do a investigation to determine if the car is under insured and they will then only pay a proportion of the value by charging a under insured penalty, which maybe more that the premium you saved. This is the risk you take, so you need to see how you want to take the gamble. In most small accidents they will not bother with a investigation as the cost and admin process is not worth a small payout.

Thank god they finally made that road... but I felt the surface was a bit uneven, also there is not much safety compared to green path.

My guess is the filter maybe the same for both 1.3 and 1.5 , best is to just call up the agents or go to Pitstop when you are in Colombo and buy one. Also if every you change the type of oil its always best to change the filter as well.

Machan, I don't think the statement you have made is politically & factually correct, and think we should not come to any conclusions that he has swindled the cricket board money and has bust it on a Aston Martin. He has enough money of his own mainly thanks to his father starting up the Nawaloka empire, in Sri Lanka you need to have money to make more money, so the rich just keeps on getting super rich while the rest of the population is struggling to make ends meet with their monthly salary. Anyway I am quite surprised he has opted for a Aston Martin, against a Merc. That car looks stunning and thanks for putting up the pics, definitely a chic magnet that is with the drop top, Wow.... just imagine driving that babe in to a club.

Low Brake Power When The Engine Is Switched Off

Yes, had the same problem in my 96 EK3, but its not all the time you travel with 5 people. Also on the topic of repairs and spare parts, I had the EK3 for 3 years and did not have a single mechanical problem, except for the ac. So even if the spares were expensive it did not matter much. So whats important is getting a well maintained vehicle. Also try to find a manual if your concern is on fuel economy, more than V-tec or Non V-tec. A manual V-tec would be the best.

The VIC is needed if not a police report should be given saying its lost, even then they will not transfer under the same day service, and you will have to do it the normal way.

Don 5. Most cars after 1990s recommend 5W-30, 10W-30 or 15W-30 though in the SL context using 10W-40 seems to be acceptable though it could reduce your fuel economy a bit (the second rating denotes thickness of the oil). I've not seen any modern cars recommend the 10W-50 variety of oil. Mani You should follow the severe service schedule in SL. As for oil, 10w40 to 15w40. If you're in a hot hilly area you can go with 20 weight. FYI. Lower the number thinner the oil. If my memory serve me right, the first number is when the oil is at operating temperature and the second is when it's 'cold' Guys, there is some contradiction and confusion here on the actual meaning of 5W-40, From what I understand both the numbers 5 and 40 denotes the viscosity range. Since the oil thickens when cold and thinner when hot, the 5W shows winter, so the entire first number and the W can be ignored for Sri Lanka and what is relevant is the last digit. And smaller the last digit lower the viscosity or in other words thinner the oil. Thinner oil= less friction = better performance = better fuel economy. This is whats on Wiki, but its not very clear on how to interpret the range. Grades Range of motor oils on display in Kuwait The Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) has established a numerical code system for grading motor oils according to their viscosity characteristics. SAE viscosity gradings include the following, from low to high viscosity: 0, 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, 40, 50 or 60. The numbers 0, 5, 10, 15 and 25 are suffixed with the letter W, designating their "winter" (not "weight") or cold-start viscosity, at lower temperature. The number 20 comes with or without a W, depending on whether it is being used to denote a cold or hot viscosity grade.

Ha,.... and I am sure that Trucking company is getting some free advertising at the cost of the RDA.

Just in time before the budget.... the owner is one smart guy.

The article in the paper shows a picture of a 40ft container on the express way.... ? Is this allowed or even possible. It was mentioned here that the lanes were too narrow even for cars, so I cannot imagine how a prime mover could fit in.

What you mean is all your dashboard warning lights come on , and fluctuate as in flicker ? You need to diagnose if the charging is ok and the battery is good, any battery place should be able to confirm this to you but good if you could take it to Browns ( on high level road ). It could also be a simple issue where you need to clean the terminals.

Stig, You seem to find some sort of kinky thrill by trying to piss people off. Unfortunately for you I don't give sh.t weather you call me a "brain dead twat" or a "smart a## ". But I do feel sorry for your mother for having the unpleasant task of bringing such ----- in to this world.

Thanks for the comprehensive info, also heard you need to use mineral oil after a overhaul and not synthetic.

Zotye Nomad 2 Or Chevrolet Beat.
CARBON B4 replied to Blue Bell's question in Car Buying Information
All the best with your new vehicle..... In my view any vehicle can give you driving pleasure its just a question of how you drive it. But you say this is rear wheel drive but does not have 4WD ? that sounds a bit not right, maybe these Chinese do it differently. But I just googled Zotye Nomad 2 and the first thing to appear is this conversation, which to me is a little scary... -
do you think softlogic will service the Mondeo ?

Mag city is terrible, dont even think of going there. Kleen Park is difficult to go to and its a little too crowded and they don't pay much attention unless its a fancy vehicle. Auto Miraj Nawala is good ( not perfect ) but most of the other mushroom joints cannot be relied upon. Basic problem is most guys working in a car wash/ auto detail place have no idea about how to properly care for a care, they are there to earn the day's pay and that's it. I usually do it myself but its not easy to find the time.

So then why do people who buy new cars run in the vehicles ? This guy I know bought the new 508 and the agents have said to run it in, so he is driving it very slow below 2k RPM.

Nice ride, thanks for posting.

Dude.... A forum is a place where you share your opinions and views, if someone were to fully research on a topic before posting why post in the first place ? Pericles : Thanks for sharing that Nissan will actually void the warranty if you use an option that was built in to the car. Actually this is the first time I am hearing of such a thing for any product.

I am not quote sure about this running in periods for new engines nowadays. I remember watching this program on discovery where they showed a sports car being assembled, I cant remember the make but after the car was out of the production line it was test driven at very high speeds, and every single car was individually tested. I think since technology has improved so much they maybe able to make the engine blocks and pistons without any imperfections and so could drive it the way it was built to be driven from the day you purchased it. If you say 10,000k that's a long time for running in a vehicle and that's a long wait . Most cars brought down to SL is less than this ( assuming the millage has not been tampered with ).
