"cylinder Sleeve" & "ring Set" Replacement Mitsubishi (4G33/32)
LancerL posted a question in Mechanical problems
Dear Experts, I have a Hyundai Stellar 1986 Module, which has 1500CC Mitsubishi (4G33/32) engine. (I’m not sure but its Timing Chain module) My issue is that the cylinders and Piston rings has worn out and my mechanic advice me to do the following. 1. Remove existing sleeves and fix new sleeves, polish new sleeves to the existing piston size hence existing pistons are originals, good and no need to replace which will cost me 10,500/-. 2. Replace Ring set with Standard one cost 2,500/-. 3. Replace Began Bearing set to a Standard one cost 1,900/- 4. Purchase an engine overhaul kit suits to my engine cost 3,800/- Pls. advice me on followings. 1. What you’ll think about fixing sleeves? 2. Is it durable? 3. If yes how many Km’s average? 4. Will this solve oil burning and give good compression? 5. Will this low down the engine noise and make it smooth like a new car? 6. Finally will this give me good fuel consumption? Thanks in advance for your valuable advices!!! Regards, LancerL -

Dear friends, Some time back I had a huge issue on my Lancer Light cabulator. Initially there was small miss on the engine and I've taken it to a garage, the guy who done the job has removed and cleaned the carb & plugs and said everything sorted now. But as I observed the engine was shaking a lot on idle and they said it's normal because this is an old engine. Even though they said its ok I had a very bad pulling power and low fuel economy after this and was very difficult to maintain clutch balance. After few days I went to an electrician for some other work and he observed and said that Sir, there is a miss on your car and take it to a garage. I told him the entire story. He said that there is a good person for carbs who's specialized for it and given a number. On next day itself I went and met him who was nearby. He removed everything and found that a one door of the carb is not closing well which caused the miss and asked me to get it fixed by a lath shop. After all he fixed it and tuned the engine till water comes from silencer end and the engine stopped shaking on idle. He has done a grate job for me but his charges was so reasonable. He used to visit homes by his threewheeler and do the job as well. Please find his contact details below. Deshapriya 0779708938 Thanks LancerL

Dear friends.., I heard from people saying that Gas conversion on a petrol car is damaging the engine specially valves. but they also say that the original conversion done by L*augh Auto is good because it let engine to start from petrol and run from Gas. but in other way everything done by Gas and will harm the engine. Please help me to get a correct idea of this.. and please share your experiences on this.. Thanks, LancerL

Thanks Don for the idea.. even I feel the same comparing both at same time..

Dear Don, I agree with the second post. But according to the "wikipedia" this has the same engine which Lancer Box (Second generation Lancer 1979–1988) has. So people says that Lancer box does around 12Kmpl but this doesn't. Other hand when it's come to Curb weight of both vehicles Lancer is "1,170–1,295 kg (2,600–2,850 lb)" but Stellar is "1,000 kg (2204 lb)" which I cant believe how Lancer Box doing better than Stellar. Please find below URL for the references. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hyundai_Stellar http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mitsubishi_Lancer

Dear Sylvi, Thanks for your reply. Actually I removed the head and went there. I went inside of the workshop and they show me the place where it corrosion. it's an inside wall of a head mounting bolt hole and the wall of the hole has damaged and leaking water from it (According to them). I called my mechanic same time and told the story. He asked me to tell them that to grind the hole bit and fix some metal tube on it which he hope solve the problem. But unfortunately Edirisinhe people refuse to do that and told me it will not successful and they charged me 1,290/- for the "pressure testing". So left the place and went to the place call "Watta" @ Panchikawatta by looking for a head, there were couple of heads, most of them were had tiny differences than mine and there was one suits for me which also fully corrosion. After all I went to my mechanic with the head, after seeing it he told me that what he suggest might work and will give a try on tomorrow by giving it to a lath workshop nearby. Will update you'll once I got the feedback from him. Please feel free to share your ideas on this. Thanks, LancerL

Hay no one have an idea???

Dear friends, I went to a different mechanic today whose near by my home. As soon as he opens the Radiator cap, some water has jumped out and he said that the pressure on it is bit high due to leaking compression on to it and checked by filling some water to the Radiator. Said, some oil is leaking to the water but sometimes water might not going to oil (Still my oil in black color and hasn't come to milky color). He told me its point less of replacing the gasket only hence their can be some issue also with the Head. so he asked me to remove it take it to Edirisinghe Brothers for a inspection and for facing. I asked can I get this done by Lal and Nihal hence it's very closed by office. He said Edirisinghe is better than that and go to that. 1. According to your experience who is the best party for this or both in same position? 2. Roughly how much will be the cost for them? 3. Will I be able to carry this on a bus ? I mean is it too heavy? Kindly share your experience please!!! Thanks LancerL

Dear Sylvi, Thanks for your valuable advice, need to get a clarification about one thing on your post.. Why you mentioned that "You have to reface the head of your engine and grind the valves" Hence their is no issue with the head or the metal parts of the engine and only problem with the gaskets seal. Isn't it?? Thanks LancerL

Guys I search on the internet for this and even I feel now it's not a big issue, can someone kindly tell me the roughly cost for this please??? According to youtube videos I might need only the gasket as spare part!! am I correct?? Thanks Mahesh

Dear friends, another trouble when I went to garage for some other work on yesterday, mechanic has check the water level on radiator and said that the oil has mixed on to the water, I too checked and the water level was bit low and there were oil on the radiator cap and inside also. He asked me to start the engine to verify it and show me some bubbles coming out from the on radiator with tiny brown oil drops and said that my gasket has gone and need to replace it. So I asked is it a big job, hence I'm a layman for these things. He said to do that, has to remove the entire head!!! but it's better to sale this car out rather repairing. He didn't even mention the cost for the repair. My care is a Lancer L Light module 9Sri with 1200CC Saturn Engine. Dear friends, kindly help me with followings hence I was so worried after hearing that and couldn’t think what to do.. 1. What he said was true? 2. Is it something that cannot fix or not long lasting after fixed even? 3. How much will it cost roughly (Please mention the Spares and Labour separately) 4. Do I really have to sell my car due to this? Thanks in advance.. Sorry for the long explanation. Mahesh

@ AmilaG what are the best branded oils on the market which will suits for me? and how much it will be.. can I straightly flush the current one and fill with new one or is there a best way to do it, hence those are two different oil brands. @The Don I used to run nearly 1000Km per month..
-
Dear friends, thank you very much for all the advices.. the guy i brought this was a reseller and he was not aware about those information and I couldn't contact the original person who has done the repair.. @Don : twice a year or every 5-10,000km, don't you think this is too much, hence most people advice to do it in every 3,000+Kms or your referring synthetic oil? As I was aware 20w 50 are available in small retail shops and they measure and give the amount we want, I think its called "Lanka Super". Will this be ok for me or do I have to go for a branded 4Ltr cane? Thanks.
-
I got this just 1month back back from a reseller, he just mentioned that the engine has fully repaired! but couldn't get more info from him.. :-(

Please advice me is 20W 50 good for an old lancer 4G32 Saturn engine which has totally driven nearly 200,000 and has done a full engine repair about 10,000Km back.. Thanks in advance..
