both 406s had it and obviously the 407 also has it. Nice way of responding to those who tries to put down the features in euro cars saying "those are not really essential features.. "

good one there as I found my golf heated up little more when i was waiting in a ramp ( of course in a steep angle) until a gate is open. Only about 5 minutes and gauge kept rising beyond the usual range and still the fan didn't kick in. There the reason was abnormal angle would've prevented water flow/level reaching the thermostat sensor to operate fans. as for OPs issue, generally aged engines do have the tendency of overheating when negotiating hills for prolonged period. worse could be the head gaskets are leaky and under normal working condition it won't leak but when stressed, it'll leak some pressure into the water passages.

never thought cruise control would become so handy in SL context

Been to E01 on yesterday. Surprisingly all maruti drivers I've come across were doing around 80 or so.

Looks like valve oil seals are shot and that keeps spurring oil into the plug. I don't think these engines (L6A) would need rings and sleeves at 120k. I can recommend throve automobile for anything related to Peugeots. You can contact owner on 777 677 677

Townace Kr41 Petrol To Diesel
harshansenadhir replied to sahan anuradha's topic in General Automotive
Not only the engine/gearbox, you have to change from coil springs including shocks and more importantly differential. ( Preferably the petrol tank too) in order to do a proper conversion. -
Looks like an electronic issue to me. Anyway your gearbox starts from 2nd since 1st does not get engage for some reason. Best is to get it checked through an expert as using the car this way isn't good for the internal clutch packs. If the reverse too does not engage then I could've suspect the Hub/piston which is responsible for 1st/reverse is gone. But since the reverse works, I tend to suspect this is a software or wiring related issue.

Does the reverse work without any issue?

Peugeot 306 Hdi (Diesel Turbo)
harshansenadhir replied to chamath1's question in Car Buying Information
Neither. But I'm very much aware of the availability of spares and expertise for Peugeots. I understand the plight of a 306 user from Kandy. But with the amount of Peugeot specialized workshops around Colombo, it would be completely different for someone who's living around Colombo. Again, there's no magic in 306 HDi as it's got the SAME engine as 406 HDi including electrics. -
Peugeot 306 Hdi (Diesel Turbo)
harshansenadhir replied to chamath1's question in Car Buying Information
This is completely BS. Peugeots of these generations have been maintained better elsewhere than from CarM*rt. This shares the same HDi engine of 406 and has ample spare parts supply. however, this gold color 306 HDi hatch has rather an unfortunate history. In its early life, it was a 306 sedan. Rear ended and re-born as a hatch. However, I've seen the price quoted in hita** and it's a very tempting price for a car of that nature. The electrical issues you mentioned could be no brainer for an expert to sort out. The horn has been re-wired to the multifunction stalk for the setup when I checked it last time about 8 months back. -

Name The Car You Felt Easiest To Handle

having a blind spot in C pillar would be minor, compared to the big blind spots in Peugeot 307 and 407 which are on the A pillar itself. -

Got no experience with Mini. Golf takes the cake from all the cars I've owned. -

Does the leather wraparound add horsepower?

It's a western thing that they don't like to show that they're driving an auto and anyway I personally prefer a small gate shifter than ordinary bigger auto shift lever with a button. If you really look at, the shift lever of most of recent euros were like this and simply they folowed like many other things. Also I see a passenger airbag deactivation switch which was available in Peugeots since 1999.

Oil Leakage Into Turbo Charger/engine - Pajero Io
harshansenadhir replied to Y3K's topic in General Automotive
this is engine runs continuously by burning oil. If the engine runs in high-rev even after switching off the keys, immediately shut it off by engaging to 4th or 5th (whatever highest) gear and releasing clutch with brakes applied fully. In an autogear setup wait till the engine siezes. i think the OP hadn't checked the basics first. Turbo unit MUST be the culprit as even after a partial rebuild including the rings which has main usual culprit (worn out oil rings) replaced. take off the out pipe from the turbo and check for oil as Nilantha said. There's a guy called Wasantha in Matugama area, he's suppose to be one of the best turbo repairing guys in the country. Try to source the place if you have any contacts in that area.- 20 replies

don't forget to do a crack test of the head since you're taking it apart. Also assume that they will check the head for uneven surfaces and will smoothen both surfaces (head & block) before fixing.

Radiator Fan Working Mechanism
harshansenadhir replied to Jone Silvaperera's question in Electrical problems
Some designs such as nissan march K11, Maruti Zen has radiator and A/C condenser at each sides of the front of the car and has seperate fans for each. in this setup as you said only the A/C condensor fan will work when the compressor engages and coolant fan (radiator fan) will work when the coolant reaches a set temperature. Some designs has full width radiator and A/C condensor is half the width of the radiator. in this kind of a setup, both fans do work when the engine coolant reaches the temperature. Only fan which is on the side of the A/C condensor starts working with the A/C compressor. However, in FB13, there's a radiator, A/C condenser and fan assembly where both the radiator and A/C condensor are of same size (width). in this setup both fans work for either engine coolant temperature or A/C compressor operation. What I'm not certain is whether this fan/setup supports multi-speed operation where as if the coolant temp reaches the bottom threshold and/or if A/C compressor engaged both fans start working in speed 1. For any exceptions (such as coolant temperature goes above the upper threshold or A/C refregirant temp or pressure goes above the threshold) both fans start working in speed 2. I've seen a this type of a setup in later model pugs such as 405/406/307 and so on. -
Radiator Fan Working Mechanism
harshansenadhir replied to Jone Silvaperera's question in Electrical problems
if the A/C is switched off, the fans (both fans in FB13 setup) should start working when the engine/coolant reaches operating temperature. (About half in the gauge) and then stops after operating for sometime and temp of the coolant goes down a set threshold. You wouldn't see any movement of the gauge though. if the A/C switched on and compressor engages, again both fans should start working and stops when the compressor cuts off. However, even if the compressor is disengages, as per the previous logic, depends on the coolant temperature, fans might start stop. -
Just FYI, mirror de-fogger is an automatic function in the basic D9 model of 406. It keeps the mirror base heated, as and when you switch on wipers.
