  3. I doubt whether these Jappy craps would run for 50 years….
  4. have they got official permission to run drag races on public roads from police and municipal council? or is the approval granted only for filming? as far as I know, you have to get permission plus follow safety measures enforced by racing governing body as well. otherwise, police will chase away dragsters once you finish filming. if you have official permission, please post the letter here. thanks.
  5. I heard one guy complaining to Divisional Secretariat, Kaduwela on his VET experience. He has a 1 year old brand newly purchased motor cycle and has been maintaining by agents from day 1. He has been told by Laughs that his bike is failing the VET - not sure the figures though. David Peris has tested the bike and has confirmed that there is no problem with the bike and it's produce - as per the owner. Agents have recommended to get the VET from CleanCo instead. Apparently the CleanCo VET has been passed.
  6. A/C compressors are same for both 998cc and 1275cc engines. I’ve used double pulley compressors in manual 998cc and 1275cc engines and single pulley compressor in 998cc automatic engine. As of my experience the performance drop is same with all 3 types of compressors. The double pulley compressor tends to slip v belts at high RPMs but the single pulley compressor never slips as it has a separate driving belt from crank pulley. Overheating due to compressor: 1. If the compressor is faulty or A/C gas is overloaded, and if engine has to put more power in rotating it, there could be belt slipping and could result in overheating. If your Mini overheats when the A/C is on, it’s worth paying attention to following; 1. Check your main fan leaf’s shape and it’s air flow 2. Check whether your auxiliary electric fan switches on when you hit half in your temperature gauge 3. Check air flow of your auxiliary electric fan. If the fan has noises or a play on it’s spindle, it’s worth to replace it 4. Check the functionality of your thermostat valve. If you run with 88 Celsius one, it’s good to replace with 74C one 5. Check and tight all your fan belts 6. Check for radiator coolant leaks 7. Check your radiator cap 8. Make sure it has an overflow can 9. Make sure ignition timing is set properly 10. Make sure main head gasket is not leaking 11. Make sure that the space between radiator and fender is covered for electric fan to exhaust air only through the radiator 12. Make sure your engine is not running under compression 13. If you have a fuel injected mini, it will automatically shouts off the A/C compression when the engine is overheated If all the above is taken care of, then your Mini should not be overheating when A/C is on. Please post your exact problem, so that many of us can share our experiences.
  7. should not cost more than Rs.5000-
  8. I’ve seen 3 types of A/C compressors on MINIs, which have come from Japan. 1. A/C compressor with single pulley. 2. A/C compressor with double pulley with additional mounting holes underneath 3. A/C compressor with double pulley but small in size and has no additional mounts Unfortunately I do not have part numbers of above as of now. But make sure to buy the same A/C compressor if you want a replacement, unless you buy with all mounting brackets and adjuster. Last week I bought one from Kelaniya of above type 2. GMI
  9. this is cool but pretty expensive ha?
  10. I have same kind of LED battery indicator in my power socket extension fitted in my MINI. It is no use as you can not see minor voltage changes and I would say not worth spending on it – better go for a voltmeter.
  11. Hi MINIACE, Saw you 50 feets above the track yesterday. Got any aerial pics? GMI
  12. 1. Check radiator for leaks 2. Check radiator horses for leaks 3. Check whether coolant is leaking from water pump seals 4. Check the radiator cap for leaks and operations of it’s valve 5. Check whether the fan belt is tight 6. Check the extra coolant reservoir for any leaks 7. Check and replace your fan switch to correct the fan problem 8. Check whether the radiator fans are in order If everything above are in order, and still car is heating check following: 1. Check the thermostat valve 2. Check the main head gasket Once you pay attention to above steps, you should be able to rectify the heating problem for sure. GMI

  14. I use Cobra ESD 7000. With my experience SL Police use X and Ka band. There is one radar gun they use with a white face, which is not detected by ESD 7000. However one of my friends told me that they were using laser guns on Baseline road, but I've never came across. As per my experiences with Whistler and Cobra; Cobra speaks better than Whistler for SL. -GMI
  15. Thanks Pericles for the heads up. As you said, if the necessity of the certificate is on hold, we might not need the certificate right away, but I personally would get the certificate as the rule will enforce soon and the certificate is still valid for 1 year. MMC initiated this not to get through the certificate but to make sure all our classic MINIs are environmental friendly. Thanks again, GMI

  17. Thanks guys. Sha7: I bought the LEDs from Maharagama - these high bright LEDs are available in any electronic shop. Miniace: Machan simultaneous flashing is easier than this - I thought running + 2 level flashing would be nice for the car as it gives kind of strobe lighting effect. Machan I fixed black reflector projection beams for headlights with neon strobe lights in them - will post a video during the weekend. I used Xenons for low beam and Halogens for high beam. - GMI
  18. I could not find 74 degree thermos here in SL. I bought them directly from www.ocoop.com. Side mirrors are pretty much hard to find in SL these days, even 2 of my friends are searching. GMI
  19. hi, can anyone post contact details of Land Rover Owners Club of Sri Lanka please? i would like to become a member. thanks, GMI
  20. Not sure whether he has built a HHO generator. There are lot of web resources on HHO cells - http://aquygen.blogspot.com/ I’ve made one and it generates HHO. But I did not fix and try in a car as it draws lot of current – I doubt it’ll add a significant fuel economy… If anyone wants to fix this in a car and try I could give it free to try. GMI
  21. hi, I would suggest you classic off white or green, if you want a classic look (red is very common now). See following images: http://www.channel4.com/4car/gl/gallery/gallery/457/14 http://www.classicmini.us/cgi-bin/miva?Mer...=Classic+Mini+4 there is a Rover Mini painted in classic white, which even has chrome hub cups and fender mirrors in Colombo. It’s really nice. MINIACE might have some pics of it. GMI
