What is the Prius Shuttle?
-
Dude, on what figures are you basing these allegations on? Recently, when a Tesla Model S (which has an all electric power-train) caught fire it was huge news and it made headlines even on tech blogs. But when you really dug into the details: "Yet Musk was defensive when asked about Tesla’s safety record, noting the Model S is “about five times less likely to have a fire than the average car.” With their three fires, Tesla has had about one fire every 8,000 vehicles, compared to one in 1,300 for the industry average. There are 200,000 gasoline car fires every year, he told Sorkin, “how many times do you hear about this [in the news]?” http://www.forbes.com/sites/afontevecchia/2013/11/12/elon-musk-on-the-tesla-fires-headlines-are-deceiving-model-s-is-safest-car-on-the-road-by-far/ Hybrids have their drawbacks. Spontaneously busting into flames is not one of them.

I am a hybrid owner. The economy and benefits of owning a hybid varies greatly by your driving habits and the amount of miles you run on average in a month. If you are someone who runs high mileage (1500-2000km) per month like me, I think it will be beneficial even that though in the long run. But if you run less than that, might as well get a regular gasoline vehicle. But contrary to popular belief, not everyone who buys a hybrid does it with the sole purpose of getting ridiculous fuel consumption figures like 35kmpl. At least I didnt. I get around 15-17kmpl fuel consumption on average and this is while running 5 days in Colombo heavy traffic and two Kandy-Colombo trips a week (with A/C always on). And I do not drive slow to save fuel or hog the roads.. My average speed would be 60-80kmph which is the same I maintained in my previous Diesel car. The vehicle I bought had both hybrid and non-hybrid versions of the same model and one of the reasons that prompted me to go for the hybrid version is that the gasoline version would only do 6-8kmpl in regular colombo traffic. This was not something I could not afford esp with the amount of miles I run in a month. And I liked the look of the car, handling and driving experience so I went for it. So far I am happy with it. So as I said, the value of having a hybrid varies by your requirements, use cases and your personal preferences.

The issue however was not a hardware fault. Flash the new software and you were good to go. I think you can get it done from Stafford even. Only thing is they will charge for it unlike in Japan. But I do wonder if the Vezel is as popular in Japan as it is here? Apparently there were only 200000 or so Insights sold world wide, and you would think half of them are now here judging by the frequency you see them on SL roads.

Thats his signature. By Hybrid Corolla you mean the Axio 165 right? Personally I think that car looks like ass. The older Axio 141 looked way better. And the freeze is not a bug, it's a feature. As iRage mentioned it's the idle stop functionality is most hybrids. When in idle stop some hybrids would have the A/C running slow as you said. But other hybrids (i.e. Civic) have an electric A/C compressor that would run off the hybrid battery, resulting in proper A/C functionality even when on idle stop.

The Fit GP5 advertises 36kmpl fuel consumption which is what the Aqua advertises and more than the Prius advertises. GP5 in my opinion has better handling, driving experience and looks. It also comes with a Lithium ion battery.

Turn the entire engine off. It will save more fuel. On a more serious note i think putting it to N is useless and more importantly its dangerous. Havent you seen sign boards on hilly roads where it says dont drive in neutral and carry photos of an accident? Lorry drivers usually do this. In other words this is a big No.

So...I assume this applies to highways as well?

Thanks a lot for this info. Does anyone know a good Honda guy around Kandy? I need to undo a botched repair job (scratch repair and minor dent) done on a side skirt/rocker of my 2011 civic. Need to get that bit painted as well. Any good place around Kandy for this sort of stuff?

From my experience, Honda CVT wont give any specific problems as long as you treat them well. Treating them well basically means changing CVT fluid at regular intervals and using the correct fluid. In my vehicle i change this every 15k km (although most baases here would go "ayyo why change that frequently, do it every 40k") and only put Honda HMMF oil. Make sure you put exactly the oil mentioned in service manual (should be either Honda CVTF or HMMF).

Are you sure there is no frequency mismatch? SL police scanner may not operate on the same frequency as the device is programmed to scan on. Is the range of frequencies configurable?

I don't think having the sticker alone is enough. In my case I was asked to produce the warranty booklet they issue upon purchasing the vehicle (this has the service record logs, warranty terms etc). And from what I understand, you need to service your car from Sterling throughout the warranty period (not just the free services) for the warranty to be valid.

Want To Buy A Car-My Budget Is Rs.1.5M To2.0M
ramishkad replied to hsk's question in Car Buying Information
As someone who used to own a CE110, I second this comment wholeheartedly. Some of these owners quote ridiculous prices for these cars like Rs. 2.0 million and trust me they really dont get sold at those prices. I sold my 65- for 15.5 and that wasnt too easy. So dont fall for fake prices if you do come across one. The other important fact is the engine overhauls. Any Diesel CE110 that had normal usage would require an engine overhaul by now. Either get one that has an engine overhaul done properly, or be prepared to budget for an overhaul if you get one without. I had to overhaul mine at 130000km as i remember. And the car had ~260000km on it when I sold. These vehicles are around 15 years old now so budget for some minor repairs too. Having said all of that, these cars are great for daily use and can take quite a beating. I still miss mine. -
How else do you want me to say it? I posted what happened. Do you want more drama? One thing I forgot to mention in my previous post though was they forgot (or did not know about) to do the battery control module software update. Apparently for certain battery replacement scenarios you have to change the control module software .Then again even Stafford motors had no clue about this. I got this done myself so if any of you guys do change your hybrid battery this way, just check the service bulletins by your manufacturer to make sure there is no software mismatch.

Bumping thread with my recent experience : 1. Has anyone use this free service from sterling Japan. Who are the local dealers or contact point ? Yes. My car came with three free services and I've used them. They have an After Care service centre in Kadawatha. 2. Has anyone claim the sterling warranty ? If so from where and how ? Yes. Claimed warranty for Hybrid battery. Battery started acting up and when I took the car to their after care centre and they offered a replacement. It took around one month for the battery to arrive in SL and 1 day for the replacement procedure. 3. Is sterling warranty is real at all ? From my experience, yes. The 1-2 extra lacks i paid for warranty saved me approx Rs 600000 so far. I have three years warranty for hybrid batt and 2 years for engine and transmission. So from my experience, it was worth it.

Car Model : Honda Civic Hybrid FD3 YoM - 2011 Nature of Repair - Battery Control Module Software Update Name and Location of Garage - Polgolla Automobile Service Station, 6th Mile Post, Madawala Road, Polgolla Contact : 0812499067 Sharing a positive experience with this garage since they resolved a lingering problem I had. I have been wanting to update my Civic Hybrid battery control module software for a while now and could not find a place to do it. I even tried Stafford motors and wasn't impressed with the responses I got for my queries regarding the IMA battery , its type and various control module software in the IMA system. I was recommend this place by a friend and decided to give it a go. The owner ( Mr. Dinanjaya) had worked at Stafford motors for 5 or so years and seemed pretty knowledgeable about the subject matter when i talked over the phone and this was confirmed after I took my car to the place. He explained to me a lot about the bcm software, the update process, IMA battery and its types, etc etc and was very patient with my barrage of questions. He performed one update, reset the IMA system but only charged me for the reset (there is another update due to be released another month and my car apparently needs that too). He seemed to use the Honda Diagnostic System (HDS) to perform the updates and seemed to be pretty up to date with Honda Service bulletins. Another thing I noticed was that the garage had a high number of Honda vehicles so it must be a hit with Honda enthusiasts. For the couple hours I was there, there were two other FD3, an FD1 and an ES5 at the premises. Negative Experiences - None so far. Will update if there are any since Im planning to go there for my regular services as well.

Honda Civic Fd1 Humming Noise When Accelarating
ramishkad replied to ShanilJ's question in Mechanical problems
Hi, Does it have CVT transmission and if so when was the last CVT fluid change? What oil did you use? -
Isnt the 1.8 engine of the Prius an Atkinson cycle engine? This type of engine is built for efficiency not performance. It would be slower when compared with an Otto cycle engine of the same capacity, especially when it comes to acceleration from a dead stop. Also, if you 'race' a Prius against a Civic 1.8 i-VTEC , it would leave you in dust and it would actually humiliate the Prius when Vtec kicks in. Leave the 1.8 civic alone, I've outrun an overly enthusiastic Prius driver who started a childish act of challenging me on the highway with my Civic Hybrid (I dont believe in racing on the road to impress people i dont even know, but this guy seemed to have a serious case of penis envy so it had to be done). Its not just the engine capacity that matters when winning a 'race'. Handling, cornering, aerodynamics - all that matters. And let's not kid ourselves here - hybrid vehicles DO consume a lot of fuel when you have it constantly under hard acceleration.

For me, I'd say the GP5. Better handling, driving experience and personally i like the looks of it better. Fuel economy wise afaik both are claimed do something like 36kmpl. Im not sure how they perform in SL roads but i think Aqua may do marginally better in city driving. Anyways, do you really care for 1-2kmpl difference in two cars that supposedly do 36kmpl? As for the resell value, the Aqua is a Toyota. Sri lankans would buy even a turd with the Toyota logo so there.
