  1. Permits suspended from 21st November. LCs for those obtained on or before 20th November can be opened before 31dec. Finance Ministry
  2. Strange country this with strange unions. GMOA is up in arms threatening strikes when the vehicle permits are cancelled and pulls every strings imaginable against private medical degrees. But when have they ever said a word about the doctors jumping ship and migrating to other countries at the first available chance to have a better life. After all that's quite a lot of parippu and halmasso tax money going down the drain so that Australia can reap the benefits of our investment. I am not against anyone migrating to have a better life, that is their choice. But at least we need to make them payback our damn investment before they bugger out.
  3. Don't wash it unless it is really necessary
  4. Aren't these tax rates da same as we have now for hybrids and ICEs ? Is the VAT included/Excluded in this rate ? Maybe it is the introduction of tax per engine CC that is driving the taxes higher. On the brighter side no more permits and no special Import license.
  5. Now that the Civic 10th Gen is being launched worldwide any word about the nameplate being resurrected in japan ?

in SL we would not see non hybrid >=1500 cc sedans anymore. it's all about hybrid or <=1000cc cars now :'(

  6. Customs changed the valuation table again ?

expect this to go up and down. they are just aimlessly making decisions for the hell of it.

  7. Crazy Concepts at TMS 2015 :)

  8. As per the manual the tune up is every 20,000 km right ?
  9. patience patience. its only about 1 month away. After all rumors will be rumors. (Rumor accuracy increases remarkably near the event, we are too far away )
  10. might be draconian, but i think the best way is to relate the value of the vehicle you are allowed to import with the income of a person. By hook or crook we need to get the income tax system working in this country. Vehicles might be one good way to do that
  11. Yes. Still those lists are not comprehensive as Toyota List.
  12. I also think this was done for the sole purpose of stopping the influx of vehicle imports during the pre-budget period. With the budget i would guess there will be a significant rate hike and a more sensible (somewhere between previous low valuations and the new ridiculous valuations) valuation table.
  13. before that are they going to publish rates for the other japanese brands or are they excluded from the hike
  14. Close down the car sales or at least stop them from importing stocks without orders. Let the people who want to buy, order and get a 1. Brand new car from the agents 2. Used car from dealers for a commission like the individual imports today. That way government will be able to control the imports and would allow them to track the income of people more easily. And for the traffic problem there needs to be a way to encourage people to use more public transport. To do that, 1. if you want to solve it with buses, you will need to add more buses for the peak hours, increase the quality of the service and bring in stricter rules for the number of passengers. This would solve the problem but might not be economically sound. 2. Improve the train service on the main lines and have a good inter-connecting bus system for the short hauls. Once they have a solution, just put a high city entry tax that would discourage people from using personal transports. But just like the liquor/cigarette problem, the govt would take a big tax hit if the petrol consumption reduces. And in Sri Lanka, the govts never ever take hard unpopular decisions, so all this is pointless as nothing will ever be implemented.
  15. This is the lead up to the festive season. Every year normally the rupee depreciates during this period as i have seen. As we import a lot during this period, don't think curbing vehicle imports will help much.
  16. I am not sure what the logic of this, if they go ahead with it. There are only 2 differing categories when come to vehicle sellers; Agents and Grey importers. Mass or Individual all these importers fall in to the category of grey imports. So the scale is irrelevant. If not for individual imports we would still be paying sky high prices for crappy cars imported by these big sales ppl. This is like going backwards. The only logic is that these mass scale buggers contribute a lot to the politicians and if you want to find most of the black money and hidden stashes of politicos in SL, just audit the car sales.
  17. Has someone taken down the people doing the valuations ? The other JDM brands are still pending
  18. What was expected was a crippling tax increase, not targeted assassination of JDMs Well the Alto takes less space on the road right than any JDMs or other cars ? Maybe that's why they haven't increased that , so Jai Hind !
  19. the only ones profiting out of this will be the car sales, politicians and govt. As usual the general public gets the short end of the stick.
  20. Very simple, defies common sense and outrageous. They went to the manufacturer site and took the value of the highest grade for each model. Example Aqua - the 2,377,962.00 value quoted is the exact value of Aqua GS on toyota website. Prius - 3,497,237.00 is almost same as the highest grade "G Touring Leather"
  21. As i remember in the good old days the permits were issued for only lyk $15,000 or $18,000. They looked at the vehicle values and set a ceiling that is enough to get a good car. That's the era when the corollas n civics came through permits, which i guess was the right scheme. The current scheme is sort of a racket to enable rich ppl to get high end vehicles cheaply through govt servant permits. We have a permit where the ceiling is 25000 but you can go to 30000 or 35000 by paying different rates. Why do you need that when the corollas and civics would easily fit under $25,000. And when it comes to culling of the permits, what did they cancel 1st ? They went ahead and canceled the tax payer's permit. Those guys were actually paying something to the govt and that's how we encourage income tax payments . The rest of the permits, they are going in roundabout fashion coz they don't have the backbone to face those powerful lobbies to cancel/change the current scheme
  22. The Govt is covering themselves i guess and ensuring that they don't have to give any amnesty's this year. Simplifies the rules and puts an end to that loophole.
  23. that time of the year again . Looks that way isn't it from the sounds the govt. is making. But with the man at the helm at the finance ministry you never know. He cancels permits and then cancels the circular that canceled the permits. He increases vehicle taxes, cancels depreciation table and then relaxes the age limit on vehicle imports. He put a cap on leasing for vehicles at 70% and then relaxes it to 90%.
