Rear Drum Break Metal Rattle Sound(Tak-Tak) When Breaking
firstgear replied to dhanuFB15's topic in General Automotive
@Rumesh88 Thanks for your comment. In my case, I get the noise only at low speeds as you suggested. But I do not get the noise always. I get it only when the wheels are hot. And I don't get abs alarm (my car has abs). Should the hub be changed only if the abs alarm is triggered?- 12 replies

Rear Drum Break Metal Rattle Sound(Tak-Tak) When Breaking
firstgear replied to dhanuFB15's topic in General Automotive
Yes I understand your problem. And it's the same with me. There's no issue in parking brake, but when the adjustment varies it causes a noise when braking the normal brake. You can identify the problem more clearly if you tighten the parking brake to apply in 2 or 3 "kattas" as opposed to 4 or 5 "kattas". Then with little braking and sometimes with no braking at all that noise becomes prominent.- 12 replies

Rear Drum Break Metal Rattle Sound(Tak-Tak) When Breaking
firstgear replied to dhanuFB15's topic in General Automotive
Same thing happened to me and is happening again on my Elite. I have spent more than 25k trying to solve the problem. I replaced the drum and didn't solve the issue. The temporary solution is to adjust the parking brake. i.e. make it such that you have to pull the handle bit more higher. Then observe if you get the noise. It's a Rs.200 job.- 12 replies

Thank you very much guys. The postman brought the book today ??
-
I handed over docs to RMV on 10th of March. But they already confirmed me that the book was printed on May 27th. And their postal division told me that they don't keep the printed ones more than one week.
-
Thanks Sampath. Yes, that's what the post office also told.. They asked me to get the reference number. But again, with that reference number what can we do if the book is lost in the middle? Now I'm concerned if I would ever be able to get an original book.
-
That's sounds promising.. but will i get another original book, if they have already posted the original?
-
Hallo guys, It's been 4months since I applied for the book of my car. I got original book from the seller and applied for transfer the book under my name. I didn't receive the book yet. When I inquired from RMV they say the book has been created at the end of May. But when I inquire from the post office they say they haven't received it yet. They checked all the incoming records infant of me. Is there anyway I can get the book very soon. There's gonna be a problem, when the time comes to renew smoke test. Please advice.. Thank you.

Services should be Provided by Fuel Stations
firstgear replied to gayanath's topic in General Automotive
Gayanath has a valid concern with a sensible opinion. Criticizing and trying to make fun of it only reflect the pessimistic attitude of most of us which deter progression as a nation.- 27 replies

breaknoise Brake noise when press lightly
firstgear replied to rcmadawala's question in Mechanical problems
I have similar noise on my elite. This is after: 1) Rephasing disks 2) Replacing rebuild kit 3) Replacing brake pads 2) and 3) was done at the agents. I have taken the car to them couple of times now after the problem. But they don't seem to have a clue. And Asking to rephase the disk again. Any input is highly appreciated. -
I replaced the drum from Panchikawatte. It was 700g heavier than the OEM. I anyway went ahead with it as I had no other option. The noise disappeared after this. But after few days, the noise started to come from the other side . I recorded the noise from my phone: The problem now, is that neither the company nor the place I bought the first have has another drum

No, not one. I was wondering weather the tyre shops offer to trade my old four tyres and get a discount for a new set. Because, my tyres set is bit new but I want to change them to get a larger size. (I hope my question does not deviate from the original topic )

Tyre shops buy old tyres? Or are there any specific places to return the old ones and get a new set with discount?

Is this in Sri Lanka? I would have punched him in the face the moment he got into the car. We need to pretend to be a bigger kudda in front of these buggers.

Thanks Davy. I will check them.

After test drive with unimo workers. They suggested to rephase the drums (and the front disc). Since HydePark branch doesn't have phasing tools they give me the options of either taking the components tonOrugodawatte branch on Monday or taking it to "Nihal and Laal". I opted for the latter option as I needed to sort this out today it self otherwise I might need to put another leave on Monday (in addition to the two leaves I have spent in sorting this out). During the phasing process, after completing 3 out of 4, the last one (drum) blasted and broken. They said there should have been a crack and that could be the reason for the noise. I returned to Unimo with the broken component only to find out that they don't have a drum in stock in Colombo. The only one available had to be couriered from Anuradhapura branch on Tuesday. They also gave me the option to finding it from outside. But it was not available in Panchikawatte also. Hoping to go to Delkanda on Monday.

Car: Viva Elite Ezi Problem: When I apply brakes from speed around 50kmph I get a noise from the rear. The noise starts like 'taka taka taka..... takkk.. takkk.. tak..'. It's exactly like putting some plastic item inside an empty mega bottle and shaking it well and then gradually reducing the speed of shaking. That's the closest sound I can describe it. But when I deep press the break or intermittently press the brake the noise does not come much. While driving I cannot exactly locate from where the noise comes, but it seems to me from the boot of the car. And there is nothing in the boot except the tools and the jack both of which are positioned unable to move. What I did: I went to UniMo Hyde park yesterday and they changed the brake washer plus brake oil (Rs.4750). But the noise has not changed much since. Please share your thoughts. Thanks.

I also have some small touch ups to be made. I hope that people with contacts will share the info here. Thanks.

This looks pretty much similar to Perodua Axia.

Viva Elite for 5 years from now on
firstgear replied to firstgear's question in Car Buying Information
Hi Guys, I bought a 2011 Viva Elite Ezi with 69,000 km on the odo meter. I am planning to do a time belt replacement. I inquired the cost from Auto Miraj (over the phone) and they quoted me something around 28,000/= all inclusive. I believe it would be around the same range with UniMo (but they are not answering my call). Is auto miraj okey for me to do the job? or should i go to UniMO. Or should I consider some other places with genuine parts for half the cost? Thanks.- 7 replies

Hi, I am looking for a Viva Elite as my first car. I will be using the car for at least 5 years. I am not going for a lease. But I am getting Rs.2.5million from a relative who asked me to pay it back whenever it is possible. So I am planning to pay around Rs. 25,000 per month. It is also possible that the relative can way off the outstanding at some point of time And I have the following concerns: 1) Most of the Viva Elites are above 45,000km on the odo. I would drive around 10,000km per year. Is it a good idea to plan to have the Viva Elite and hit 100,000km on the odo? Would this Malaysian car hold up together at that level? 2) Am I choosing the right car for the above budget in the above circumstances? Thank you for your time.
