Yes I agree. But non hybrid petrol or diesel cars have simple technology that can be easily maintained. The problem comes with the maintainability of the hybrids in the long run. Hybrids become owner's nightmare when it gets older.
-
Hybrids are like mobile phones. Technology keeps updating everyday. Therefore hybrid will become obsolete as soon as the new technology comes into play. Besides that car makers don't design cars for Sri Lankan market. They design it for countries where cars are used by general public for no more than 3 years. Go figure the impending doom on our car market.
-
What? Then why should he waste money on a 6-7 year old hybrid? Normal cars worth more than the hybrids at any time.

Hybrid market is going to crash sooner or later. When it does god helps the poor sods who has bought one.

Toyota Prius 3Rd Gen Vs Toyota Allion A18
BuBi replied to alpha17's question in Car Buying Information
Is your friend a rally driver? Why bother with performance of city cars? Anyhow I would definitely choose Allion over Prius. -
1990 means that car is old about 25 years. Which means it's engine might be in a totally unreliable state even if it was changed once. So arrange about 2-3 laks more for possible repairs. It might go up even more. So what I feel is that it's a bloody waste of money to buy a 25 years old car. Better you collect some more money to about 15 laks and then buy some decent car with less troubles.
-
Brand name has no issue unless you stick with what the manufacturer recommended oil grade. Here you have changed from 10W to 15W. It may well within the manufacturer recommended range. But check to be sure.
-
7-8 Laks is not a reasonable amount to be spent on a trouble less car. If fuel consumption is your prime concern go for a Indian model. Though remember Indian cars tend to rust pretty badly after 2-3 years of use. So my opinion is that you add some more money and look for a car around 12-14 laks range.

Well pardon me for this foolish question. But aren't the agents always put too much of a price on things? Isn't it better to use the local mechanic to do the job provided that the mechanic is a skilled one? Anyhow you can also buy genuine parts outside rather than through the agent. Right?

Well old japs don't cost a million to repair them. It's a pretty big misconception. And also people who owns cars should know about their vehicles and how to do simple tasks and repairs. If they don't. It's there fault. Not the car's.

Try Honda Fit Aria 2007 model also. Very good on fuel and too sensitive on the CVT gear box. Except for the gear box sensitivity it's good car IMHO. It's also under 30 laks. However it's better that you stick to a Toyota.
-
CVT tend to give trouble if it's not being given the proper attention. Honda CVT gear box needs oil changes at 15,000 km intervals. I did mine few months back. It cost me 9000 rupees total at Stafford service center. If u intend on buying a Honda be sure to maintain your cars gear box through Stafford.

Good Mechanic And Workshop For Toyota Ae100 @ Matara
BuBi replied to DELO 5's topic in General Automotive
I don't think the previous owner hadn't even changed the engine oil or done a service during the 20,000 km period. What he might've meant was that the car didn't give him a trouble for 20,000 KM. Obviously there is a uncertainty with the T belt life. It needs to be replaced ASAP. -

If previous owner didn't do the routine maintenance, then you have to face the consequences. Do a full service and replace batteries, T belts etc., immediately. Note that services station don't do repairs of vehicles. You have to seek a proper mechanic to do those things. AFAIK don't go to fancy wheel alignment joints with computers and other gimmicks. Stick to a joint that do manual wheel alignments. -

You don't need to do a wheel alignment per se unless if you change your older tires. This goes to EFI tune up also. You don't need to do it unless you car is having significant pulling power issues. AFAIK do a full service first including changing all the oils in your car, timing belt, battery etc.,. Then decide whether you need to do wheel alignment or a proper tune up. -
AFAIK the N16 suspension system is prone to continues break downs. Better to avoid the N16 all together. Also I like to differ at one of your point. Sri Lankan's don't believe Toyota's are best. They think Toyota's are best for reselling.

Well i personally hasn't own any of the listed cars nor I have personal experience with them. However AFAIK, the Accord is a 2.0L family car that is very famous in US. Because of it's engine size Accord has no market in Sri Lanka and it also has a relatively low gas mileage comparing to other offerings in the SL market. So by buying a Accord you will end up having a hard to sell car with low gas mileage. The N 16 in the other hand plagued with suspension issues in the rear and are totally under-powered if one settles with the 1.3L version.

Get a Toyota Soluna.

Accord and the N 16 are both money pits in Sri Lankan market. Don't buy them. I highly doubt that you could get relatively newer Carina for around 20 laks. Anyhow Carina is a good car if u could get your hands on a well maintained one. I don't know about he Bluebird Slyphy model much though.
