  1. Agreed! But I guess it's difficult to get above 10 on the mark II/X around the kandy-colombo road even when keeping the revs below 3.5k, or am I wrong on that too? In the end it's all about gearing and driving style.
  2. Me thinks that a kilo of biodegradable litter can u get farther. Also how does a 2.5L V6 car get 16kmpl on long distance while a 1.3L Starlet does the same as its best?!? Or is my sarcasm detector broken again?
  3. Saw this on a Toyota Mark II GX100 ad:
  4. Just saw a '82 Nissan President V8 for sale in some ad. Claims to be previosuly owned by a DPL. Damn, what a car!  Surprised to know this hunk of luxury exists here in Sri Lanka!

  5. So tomorrow I'm going to inspect a YOM 2000 pre-facelift Y11 wingroad with a manual tranny in kandy. The thing is this car has a KG-no. (2008 registered) and owner is willing to let go for around 1.87 mil (negotiable). It is a 2nd owner vehicle with 90k on the clock. My question is: Is this normal? How come a wingroad sit around for 8 years without a registration? Did the 3-year import rule not apply during that time period or is it something else? I have seen AE100s with K- numbers as well. But on a pre-facelift Y11 it's uncommon. Hope you guys can clarify as soon as possible and thanks in advnace!!
  6. This is 2 months old but for those of you who don't know: The story of the legendary Toyota Mark X (Successor of the Mark II) is coming to an end this December 2019. Since 1968 to 2019, more than half a century spent on providing joy to many luxury lovers, collectors, drifters & enthusiasts. Toyota will sign this book with a Final edition Mark X 250S, available in RWD & AWD with a 2.5L V6. In some iterations this car was basically a 4-door supra.

  7. The gear ratios, brakes & suspension is all different. But i'd never have thought that a small turbo and an increase of 35Nm in torque would warrant different internals but this is a tiny engine after all so I guess you're right!
  8. It sure was comfortable, no bad memories about that! Wish I could drive one again. Also the car in the ad looks sweet and the price is attractive as well! We'll give it a try!
  9. Of course, now way we will. I mean its so sad, like 2 years ago a liter of super juice was like 128/- The era of the fossil fuel burners is obviously nearing the end & it's a shame the future generation may not get to experience the ear-orgasm, pops, crackles, flutters & roars of our old guzzlers in person. Hope EVs can do a great job at being thrilling to drive.
  10. Thanks for your advice! Since we won't be doing much hard-driving (for me, fun to drive means a good steering feel, good acceleration, better than normal soundtrack, good grip & low-end torque) , I believe we can maintain it well as this isn't a hardcore performance vehicle like an Evo or Rex. About parts, I think this applies for all new kei-cars (apart from the trendy WagonR & Every) Like you mentioned, the 'corners like its on rails' is what I'm favouring this thing for
  11. So we are finally planning on getting a new family hauler and my rule was that this time it shouldn't be a chore to own or drive. Dad wants something not very old and mom wants something with an auto & creature comforts. So we settled on buying a 2015 Alto turbo RS. My only doubt is that will it require premium petrol? I ask this because this is a very small engine and a very small turbo and the boost is set in a way that it gives a decent increase in torque. So will putting normal 92 octane fuel (Ceypetco) lead to knocking and potential premature wear for the turbocharger like it would in bigger turbos? I hope a kei-car/turbo expert can clarify this for me as soon as possible because the price of 95 petrol will drive us crazy in the long run
  12. What do you guys think about the new Vega EV?

So right! And the resulting conversion kits is the best part! Those are expensive abroad so trying one with Sri-lanka's cheap labour and potential talent can really be a game-changer! Hybrids & EVs will be the norm in the next decade or so and I'm betting it on these guys & other interesting start-ups to make them easier to own.

I do not believe in cheap labor...there should be no cheap labor. There should be fair and competitive labor rates that have a better value proposition than our competitors. As long as we keep our labor rates down we are forever going to have issues of brain drain and industries are going to suffer (especially knowledge based high tech jobs).

In fact Sri Lanka needs to get out of the whole cheap mentality.

      a. Because of cheap commodities everyone from the local bucket manufacturer to farmers are suffering (its a lot cheaper to import crap from China than to produce a decent local product).

      b. because of cheap parts we have to pay an arm and a leg for genuine parts from the agents (the local markets are filled with cheap parts which a majority go for...thus the agents have to charge a premium on the parts to stay a float because they cannot make ends meet by selling parts at reasonable rates. This applies to other sectors...

      c. Because of our cheap labor rates we always think SL products are sub-standard but our population is twisted enough to think any cheap **** is decent if it is imported.

In reality, with the advancement of the IT sector & other modern industries, I think 'this cheap labour' mentality might come to an end and it will happen soon. A few decades back, according to the elders, Sri Lankan economy was great and now things are super expensive while the wages are low and in light of the current situation, majority of the businesses are having a rough time. Such a beautiful island, truly hope we can save it someday.

    Die-cast cars

Superb m8! I myself only have 3 models, a 1:18 matte black Audi R8 GT, 1:32 Tommi Makinen Evo (gave away) & 1:64 Hotwheels Ferrari F430 (bad condition)..your GTR must be welly i think. Overall, nice!
  14. ✌ Glad you could enjoy it! Truly is a good road.
  15. Exactly! Also how did you end up finding that road?
  16. Where's this? It looks so refreshing to drive through. Also we have a road that goes from Mawanella to Gampola through Hemmathagama. It has alot of curves and the road condition is nice except you gotta have a fun car to enjoy them ?
  17. My dream cars aren't what most would call expensive (W124, R129, Evo IV, Austin Mini & a sleeper Mitsubishi PO15) but it's gonna take a while to get a job to buy one of those and who knows what the status of those things will be in the future. But like you said, I'll try and go for it!
  18. Ah the pursuit of happyness! One of the only films that could make me shed a tear or two! I've been reading these forums for almost 2 years and decided to make an account mainly to post this. Thanks alot!!! ?
  19. I did get my permit, and honestly I do enjoy the turns and corners of our roads and as I have relations in Kolonnawa & Aluthgama, I know that Colombo traffic can make life hell.. but I was referring to the highways and nicely paved stretches of roads that you see around those parts. We can't even take a slightly lowered car like an EK3 into our home without scraping. Hell I can't even pass 60kmh on my FZ without the risk of hitting something but I guess that's how Sri Lanka generally is.
  20. Hi, I'm a 17 year old , genuine car enthusiast from Mawanella. I have been hit in the head with the petrolhead madness ever since I was 6. I'm not sure if this is the right place to post this, but all I really want to say is that I sincerely thank the experts and enthusiasts here in the Autolanka forums as reading their posts & comments in the forums have helped me alot in learning about the car culture here in Sri Lanka (I was born and raised in a foreign country for most of my childhood). I'm glad to know that there are still people who respect driving pleasure, people who don't want to spend their lives stuck inside an econobox or a boring people hauler, people who are ready to spend and work hard for their 4-wheeled craze machines. I've seen an Integra type-R project, a member who owns a rare Alfa 159 (Alfinsti is his name I think) and now an ongoing 'moggie' project. Even their advice had helped me and my family to avoid buying a shitbox or to be cheated by the words of maka-bases and such fellows. Since I'm from a middle class family and my parents aren't really interested in the art of driving, there is no way I can get a chance to own a decent fun to drive car (unless I go abroad) maybe until I'm 30+ due to my family obligations and the situation of this county (fuel prices, taxes, hard to find good condition cars and spares & the prevalence of EVs & hybrids, hard to drive in these areas). It is also depressing that you don't have anyone to share your passion with around my area (except for my one, good friend & my small brother). Adults would say I'm crazy and that I'm wasting my time chasing around gas-guzzlers & old rust buckets. I used to watch Initial D and Wangan Midnight along with few classics like Taxi (1998), the F&F series, Christine, etc.. I study and work hard at school with the hope that I can be successful in the future and fulfil my dreams of owning a true drivers car before its too late. I hope that the people who own such wonderful machines & the people who live in/near the Colombo area understand how lucky they are as no matter how hard life gets, they can enjoy their cars. I'm sorry because I had no one to say all this to & thanks again to the wonderful members of Autolanka!
