  1. I left college in 2007. Science batch. Hmm...another Thora with a KE72? We should definitely meet! What batch were you and your cousin in? Drove to Mount Lavinia today and one 'potential buyer' asked if this was for sale....
  2. The photo wasn't clear so couldn't make out the plates.
  3. I've read somewhere that the stock wheel can be cut (don't exactly know how), flipped over and re-welded to make it wider whilst keeping the original 'look' of the wheel. I might have a photo somewhere, I'll scan it and upload it later.
  4. I know! I tried the usual kerosene and a rag but some stains were still there. What can I use?
  5. Yup, looking for both lenses. I was told to check the Delkanda area so might go hunting one day!
  6. Hi AL, As promised, here are those new photos! This is an old pic of the engine bay, the new photo I snapped was badly lit and was deleted. This plaque was sprayed over the last time the car was resprayed. I managed to remove the offending paint using isopropyl alcohol. The interior. The original radio was removed and this was put in place. Cleaning the dash took a lot of hard work! (and a mild solution of Teepol!) Rear seats; not cleaned thoroughly! Rear end. Note our CE106V in front. Thanks for viewing! Regards.
  7. A LN106 owner I know who's been using his since the early '90s says it's by far the best to go off roading in. He regularly drives to forested and marshy areas and has modded his Hilux appropriately. Of course, he maybe biased, but I believe him!
  8. Terrabytetango is correct; all KE72s came with steel wheels with a wheel cap (black/white or polished steel with magenta details). On a side note; I've seen a green Nissan Vanette with uber rare Work Equips (or an excellent replica set!) around the Debug building in Wellawatte.
  9. Hi, Thanks for your compliments! I won't even dream of cutting the door cards lol! The factory radio unit was the typical Japanese AM type and was replaced with a Sony FM-AM type. The factory speakers are near the bottom of the driver and passenger side walls (what I typed makes no sense, I'll snap a photo of this tomorrow) and I find it adequate. Sure, it's not a boombox, but I can listen to Gold FM when I'm driving and that's good enough for me!
  10. Now that is just sad! I'll be snapping some more photos tomorrow, stay tuned for updates! Regards.
  11. @The Don; thanks! We've got two wagons (this and a CE106V that's our daily) and we've pulled everything from timber to bags of cement to huge fabric rolls between the two of them! You're correct in assuming the powerplant in this. I rarely drive this hard though, it's a vintage so I don't want to stress it! Interestingly, the KE70 commercial wagons (like mine) was in production from 1979 to 1988 whereas the sedans were replaced with the FF models (apart from the AE86) in about '83/'84. @Davy; yup, no power steering and no creature comforts! Just how I like my cars. @Sampath; thanks for that scan. I think this was an Australian edition judging by the regular bumpers (US models had hideous huge plastic bumpers!) I've come across low-res scans of a JDM KE72 catalog, PM me with your email and I'll gladly send it to you. @Terrabytetango; GL models had seats with bigger adjustable headrests, a rear wiper and a 5speed transmission. Some also had differently styled steel wheels too. I've seen some on our roads as well, but never a GL 'woody'! @SHAI; thanks! We've always kept our rides original! Regards.
  12. pretty neat! Was it white? I'm guessing you don't own it anymore?@Supra_Natural, thanks. The other 'project' was buying a digital bridge camera!LOL. I've actually read (and stored) a plethora of articles and images of Corolla E7X sedans and wagons that were tuned for serious track use. Most of these have the legendary 4AGE 20Vs inside along with other Trueno bits. I'll gladly post photos of 'well done' mods later on.Regards.
  13. Hi, Wow, I'm overwhelmed by all the lovely comments, thanks! @Nilantha, I get around 12.5km/l when driving in the city. I've not gone out of Colombo driving this though! @MrCat, I love this car as it's a RWD manual transmission; something rare nowadays. It's my first car and I don't plan on selling it, but garage space is tight at my house and sadly this is excess. I'm hoping to hang on to this for as long as I can. @SpeedyAsA, The only non-standard mod I'm planning on doing is fixing a small aftermarket tachometer as the stock instrument cluster does not have one. @Terrabytetango, this was used as a secondary car in my family, hence the low mileage. The driver-side door is decent, but it retains water when exposed to rain. I think the small drain holes at the bottom edge of the door have got clogged up with 23 years of gunk! I'll be attempting to clean it soon. The vinyl door cards on all four doors are spotless and in good nick. @Sampath Gunesekera, thanks! I've not seen a low roof wagon up close so I can't comment on the rear detail. Do you have the catalog of this particular model? I envy all your catalogs!
  14. Hi, Thanks for your compliments! I'll snap some more photos in better lighting conditions soon. Nothing special about the engine though, just your average Toyota 4K-J inside! Regards.
  15. Hi AL, Thought I'd share photos of my KE72V. Technically it's my father's but unofficially it's mine A little history on this- my father imported this KE72V DX in 1989 with 40,000kms on the ODO. It's been with us ever since! The milage now is a little over 141,000kms and it still purrs along without any issues. I'm in the process of restoring it to factory original specification but I'd love to replace the stock K40 transmission with a k50 (5speed) transmission. I would if I could find one for cheap! I've even got the original seat covers! (I'm looking for another set, let me know if any of you good KE72 owners want to sell yours!) Instrument cluster- Future plans- I've already wet-sanded the entire body with 1500grit sandpaper in anticipation of a cut/polish job. Sadly that was a few months back and I spent all the money I had on another project! I'm hoping to cut/polish the paint soon. Both rear lamp lenses are cracked and missing bits so I'm searching for new lenses. My car is missing the fan shroud (better known as the 'radiator cover') that is essential for the factory AirCon to work. I've given up looking for an original so I'm going to try and get one scratch built. That's about it, hope you enjoyed my ride as much as I do! Thanks for stopping by and regards, Jay. EDIT: I moved all my photos of the '72 to a separate album in Photobucket so had to repost the direct links. Hope they turn up!
  16. There's one (a white AE85 with a 4AGE-supposedly) on last Sunday's hitad. The seller wants about 600,000 or similar amount.
  17. Hi Kmeeg, Thanks for your information regarding the mechanic. Unfortunately, my father wanted to revisit the mechanic who attended to our KE72 to for the past 12 years so couldn't go to yours. I've noted the details and will visit him when the need arises! Thanks again for sharing his details. Regards.
  18. Hi Udaya, The engine in the trusty KE72 is Toyota's 4K. Google this and you'll find a wealth of information (I'm not too familiar with compression tests so I can't answer your questions- sorry!) Ask the owner if the factory AC is fully functional. There's a fan shroud that goes around the radiator fan which helps cooling and this is essential to keep the engine temp under control during rush hour road blocks. Also, check the body for rust spots. The usual places are the rear wheel arches and the roof drip rails. Report back when you've bought/located one! Regards, Jay.
  19. So this is the successor to the AE86! This would be my choice- http://www.autoguide...86-rc-model.jpg Congratulations on your new ride!
  20. Great stuff. I've been looking for the KE70/72 wagon brochures but no luck. They do exist and I came across a Japanese site selling them for Y1,500 each. Unfortunately they only dispatch them to Japanese addresses! If you happen to come across a brochure for the KE70/72, please post here. Regards.
  21. Was the drop-dead gorgeous Ford Escort MkI 1600 on display?
  22. I used Brasso on my father's CE106V headlamps. I got decent results, but for best results try & disassemble the lens and do the inside of the lens as well. Anything mildly abrasive will remove the gunk & pollutants that are deposited on these over time. I used Brasso because it was at hand.
  23. Hi, Great commercials, but all four links take me to the same video! Were there four different commercials?
  24. Saw the segment on the Alfa 1300Junior. Gorgeous car! I was reminded of the Escort MkI when I saw it. I checked it out online and came across the owner's article on how he acquired it. Great stuff!
  25. I can attest to the KE72's ruggedness; ours was purchased from Japan in 1989 with 40,000km on the odometer. It's still with us and now we've done 141,000km. The engine still sounds good & quiet but ours is missing the radiator cover. I plan on swapping the standard 4speed transmission to a 5speed if the gearbox is available locally. I heard it's a simple swap (plenty of Corolla fans in Australia have done so with their KE70 wagons!) Cheers.
