  1. Sorry for the confusion. I meant that to get into a discussion on such a intricate matter such as how a groove was shaped in the capacity of a modarator would be excessive. But as a restoration fan, yes that makes sense. So it was better to clarify your capacity before going further. The last time a modarator jumped in to defend the tinker he had other undisclosed motives for it. And please don't generalize everyone who has the same opinion. Though there have been 'some' uncultured and uncivilized name calling, the watchman has always kept it civil. If there is an example to the contrary please point it out and watchman willll apologize for it. Anyway, yes that's the photo i was referring to. In it you see that the lower level is the bare-metal whereas the higher level is a 3-4mm thick layer of cataloy. Now give me your honest opinion? Do you think THAT is the best way to achieve the groove? Wouldn't a good workman achieve this groove by shaping the metal itself? If this is answered we can put this issue to rest.
  2. You seem to getting into very knitty gritty matters on this topic. So, before we continue, is it correct to understand that you're participating in this discussion as a member and not a moderator? Last time a moderator's feelings were hurt big-boss had to step in and calm stuff down. And as for the the workmanship, yes you see the bare metal in the 1st pic where the groove is achieved by carving about 3-4 milimiters into the cataloy. Bravo!
  3. MD addressed the question about the entire body being covered in cataloy. MY point about the groove being carved into cataloy is yet to be addressed.
  4. When I look at the photos above, it looks like the entire 'groove' that the bumper slots into is shaped by carving into a thick layer of cataloy. The guy's more a sculptor than a tinker. And with the exception of the door, every square-inch seems to be cataloy. That can't be good right? I know we all get attached to our faithful mechanics and want to cut them some slack, but at some point you need to see him as the mechanic, and your not buddy. Right? And it's a bit embarrassing if he calls that shower curtain his 'paint-booth'. True, not everyone can afford the fancy heated boxy thing, but if the client is willing to pay I hear the painter can 'rent' the box from a bigger joint for the final painting, am I wrong?
  5. When I read the topic, i came here looking for stories about douchebags with beat barrels and body kits.... ohh well....
  6. if you NEED to know the answer to (1) then you shouldnt be buying it. And because of (2), the answer to (3) varies a lot.
  7. Sampath, are you an Anandian?
  8. Your budket is about 17-19 lakhs. Not 17-19 million 1 million = 10 lakhs If Nissan isnt your choice, go for a Toyota. It's your first car and you dont seem very familiar with cars. So buy a Corolla (I think a 110 should be in that price range) get familairized woth it (and cars) and change to a more advanced or fancier car later on. And vehicles in this price range have been discussed before. Please do a search for more details. http://forum.autolanka.com/topic/15808-how-to-search-on-autolanka/
  9. the 4DR5 uses leaf springs, so technically if you want to make it a bit more comfortable you can reduce the number of leaves. But that would mean you wont be able to carry heavy loads. If you want a comfortable ride, you could just get a set of good seats. Raising the jeep is a bit more complex and expensive. Honestly I think the 4DR5 has enough clearance to manage the average off-road terrain. So before making all these big plans, but the vehicle drive around for a few weeks/months and THEN decide what you want to do about it.
  10. Does anyone know what band the cops on the expressway use? Or in simpler terms, what radar detectors are effective in detecting cops on the expressway
  11. Yes you're right it's not your job. But it sure isn't a courtesy either, so you can get off your high horse. The reason you're replying is cos the tinker/painter you have been (indirectly or unintentionally) endorsing has been proven to be inept. And to keep yourself from loosing face you HAD to explain/defend him. And I do NOT agree with your segregation of metal work and paint-prep. They go hand in hand. Even the most beautiful piece of metalwork is of no use if it's gonna rust in a couple of years. So someone who truly cares about his exquisite workmanship would try to save it from rust. I'm no-where as experienced as most of you here, but AFAIK, once the tinker has finished his 'tinkering' he would give it a coat of that gray or brown primer to protect the metal. And it is on THIS primer that the painter applies putty on. (MD, Please correct me if i'm wrong) And if MD doesn't want to share his tinker/painter its HIS choice. You don't have to drop hints about it in every other post. If you (or someone in the forum) ends up having an issue with the tinker after being recommended by MD, you may create bad-blood between MD and his tinker. So enough of "if you know someone tell us who it is".
  12. I didnt know reversing a vehicle required THIS much discussion.
  13. I agree with Don, unlike in the past in modenr cars a drained out battery creates a lot of issues. In the past even if you accidentally drain out the battery completely you can hop in ask a few people to help you with a push start and you're off. But with a modern cars (a majority with automatic transmission) ECUs, keyless-entry, security systems and what not, a dead battery can really screw up your day. So i would believe car-makers would try to prevent battery usage when the car is not running.
  14. #1 - No one questioned your good intentions/actions. I have no doubt that you have a kind heart. #2 - And like I said above, everything I said was based on what YOU said in a public forum. And as part of the 'public', we have the right to form our own opinions. #3 - As everything has been set straight I too shall not drag this further and I will not be giving you any watchman's warnings. I wish sylvi was here to see how i was victimized by Joint Mod S_N's harsh words. I hope it proves to him that the Joint Mods are not my friends. sighh....
  15. Excuse me Hon. Joint Modarator, Let this humble member explain himself. Nowhere untill page 43 had the Don mentioned anything about HIS car. So when the Don jumped into a discussion between the Komi and MD, to an outsider, the Don had no business to get involved and rant on it. The ONLY reason he would need to, is if he was a moderator trying to enforce peace and harmony in the forum. So again, to an outsider that does NOT know of The Don's "secret/low-profile" car it only seemed like a modorator's biased attempt at creating 'peace'. If The Don didn't want his secret car to be made known he should not have defended the baas or whoever from the position of a stakeholder in this issue. It was only afterwards that he disclosed that his vested interest (his own secret car) in this whole thing. Once he did so, I addressed him as a fellow-member with the automotive curiosity to see his car. And i would like to say that I am not the first person on the forum to request to see someone's car/project. So Mr. Joint Modarator S_N, I don't see why you have to jump in further to persecute ME for it. As for my PPPDS comment, i believe my above explanation answers that too)
  16. The Don, So you ALSO have a 510? I believe this is the first time the forum is hearing of it. Clearly you have vested (so far hidden) interests in this project. So I guess it's fair enough that you comment, but next time maybe you should disclose this BEFORE your rant. Else you looks like what we called in school, PPPDS (Pana pana p#k@ dena service) So why dont you start your own thread or at least tell us something about YOUR car.
  17. Very nice! I have question about the plastic primer. These probably dont flex a lot, but one thing I have noticed when spray painting is that when the plastic flexes the pain cracks.. And with the primer being a more solid substance, could it crack, or do 'plastic primers' behave differently?
  18. I feel that as much as moderators have the right to form their opinion, they must also remain unbiased. And as passionate the moderator may be maybe, as he is neither the owner of the car in question, nor been specifically pin-pointed maybe he should try his best to refrain from defending one party. <<angel of peace flies away>>
  19. Nishan putha, I realized I know your father. I know this because I remember your car number(KQ-4568). I was joking with him that if he was a few minutes earlier he could have got 4567 and it would have been a nice number without having to pay 75,000. Anyway try to sort it out soon putha. I won't tell your father. I know how he is when he gets angry.
  20. Please dont say that. I know his father. He is going to be very mean to Nishan when he finds out. I would not want to be Nishan right now.
  21. Ravindra is the famous Dayarathne Bass's son. he manages the workshop/business now. Sorry I dont have the number with me.
  22. You're not the first person to have thought of this, and it was discussed many times before...
  23. excuse me for thinking that if you were smart enough to use the internet, thinking that you'd have the common sense look up the company's Contact Us page.
  24. That 30,000km probably consists of about 70-80% highway cruising. Not sitting in city traffic or crawling on 1st/2nd gear.
  25. are you so lazy you cant give them a call and ask them? Or are you scared that if you give them too much info they'll come rape you in the night?
