Mechanics would be willing. Whether they have experience is the issue. Lack of experience means lot of plug & play of spares. Also if indian most probably for majority of parts no stocks will be available locally. You can use 99rpm.com or fiat India to source parts. Fiat India can supply any part as long as you have the correct part number. A slight lead time may apply for older non stock parts. You might have to travel or find someone to do it for you. If it's European your best bet is eBay. Research on the model put on sale. Check the car for any critical repairs needed. Anything that's stopping the car being put to the road. Refer to above sources for avg price. If its not running to couple of lakhs go for it. If it's significant amount I'd still advice going for a panda, doblo or gp which will have much better support locally. Also those Italian cars are much stronger & heavier giving you much better safety than the cheap sheet metal found in the indian variants. A well maintained fiat Uno might be a good option as well.

For 900k it does sound like a steal. Only caveat would be sourcing parts if it's Indian made. The available support in SL is mostly for the italian GPs & the indian importer LOLC is not handling the Marquee anymore. If you don't mind waiting a bit to get down parts from India its a sweet deal. There might be a reason why the owner has depereciated an 07 model so much. Could be this. Just check. My advice go for a GP. Couple of them are available for some time. Should be able to negotiate a good price.

The gearbox could be a potential issue. Get it checked as MV-5 says. Try the following troubleshooting guide. It refers to some defects that can happen without raising DTC codes. http://www.hondafitjazz.com/manual/A00/HTML/M2/SAA2EM2E15100000000HBAT00.HTML Nws better get the car checked at the agents. They have the standard HDS/HIM system which can access most systems & read the majority of engine parameters live. Take it to them after stressing the car a bit so that the problem repeats in front of the technician. They should be able to better diagnose with their tools. If the Gearbox checks out refer to the following guide to diagnose the fuel/ignition system further http://hondafitjazzge6ge8.automotive-manuals.com/manuals/ZOOM000000000001792.html Hope you solve your problem!

Agree somewhat! Always go with what the the manufacturer has recommended for your car. Most modern cars have knock sensors which will adjust ignition timing to adjust with whatever fuel or engine condition you have. In steady state conditions like cruising etc this works like a charm but in transient conditions like speeding/accelerating the device cannot react fast to adjust timing fast enough to prevent knocking. Hence using recommended octane fuel translates to less work for the knock sensor -> lesser chance for it to not react in time. In your situation if the issue is a carbon build-up your compression ratio may have increased (lesser volume, same stroke -> higher compression) hence in a lower rpm/accelerating state your knock sensor cant adjust timing & you might have pre-ignition or knocking. Going to a higher octane would mean it would require a higher compression ratio to self ignite hence prevents self ignition until your spark plug activates. So assuming you have carbon buildup it better option to use higher RON fuel. If it's a new car I wouldn't have recommended this. Plus the risk of using higher RON than the specified is far lesser compared to using lower RON than manufacturer recommended. Give it a shot. Nws if it does work its not a permanent solution just revert to your normal 90 octane once you've fixed the real issue.

Fiat Grande Punto Dualogic issue - Skipping Gears
NeroX replied to shanakamm's question in Mechanical problems
Great! you can find accumulators on ebay for around $200. Most of the stocks available locally are exhausted by now. Check with the usual sources if they have any. Given your issue it does look more of a solenoid problem. Issue is the repair kits normally comes with seals for all the components. Check with your mechanic on what to do about the seals. Should be someone with experience disassembling/assembling these gearboxes.- 5 replies

Same advice elsewhere. Try switching to 95 octane might help. Fuel additives or IOC fuel might be better in this regard. Helps with any carbon deposits you may have. The higher octane fuel requires higher compression ratio hence might avoid premature ignition. You could also try doing an italian tuneup (doing a bit of aggressive driving/higher rpm - apparently it takes off carbon deposits). But this method is not recommended as you face a risk of blowing your head gaskets if its something else. Helps if you've diagnosed all possible faulty parts in the ignition system.

What octane petrol do you use? Try switching to 95 octane. Might help until you find the real root cause

Fiat Grande Punto Dualogic issue - Skipping Gears
NeroX replied to shanakamm's question in Mechanical problems
Sounds like your dualogic unit is faulty. Could be due to multiple issues. Best bet is to diagnose using a fiat ecu scanner. Main parts to check first is your hydraulic pump & accumulator condition. Connect a scanner let the pump run (open door or start engine). Ideally it should pressurize the system to somewhere around 48-50 bars. It should then hold the pressure steady maybe max dropping 2-3 bars/minute. Now try shifting gears. This should bring the pressure down faster, below to somewhere arnd 36-38 bars where the pump will kick in & pressurize back to 48-50 bars. If this is happening means your pump is okay. If it doesn't kick in or pressurize fast enough, replace the pump. Once pressurized, if its not holding & dropping very fast then you have an accumulator problem. Also if your pump is kicking in regularly that also refers to a faulty accumulator. If its either of the issues make sure you go for brand new parts or else you'll end up in the same situation given the age of most used parts by now. Especially the accumulator is an absolute no no to go with used parts. The pressure leakage could also be due to leakage in your actuator mechanism also. So if a brand new accumulator didn't work next bet is to get a valve reapir kit & replace all the seals etc in the actuator with an experienced mechanic. Using any oil other than tutela selespeed oil is known to cause this issue as it leads to premature deterioration of your actuator seals. The above fixes should sort you out 99% of the time. Failing all the above only option is to replace the gearbox ecu which is located in the front passenger footwell under a plastic cover. It is rarely an issue with this but could be caused due to car electrical issues or water logging in your footwell. Also normally for faults in other parts even your fiat ecu scanner may log an "ECU faulty" error code first. Hence don't jump to that conclusion all of a sudden. Try the steps mentioned above & revert to ECU replacement as a last resort. Conversely if you get to this point you could swap ECU's with a working car to establish if its the real issue before buying one. There is a very good detailed troubleshooting guide on a different forum (f*atforum) - Try searching as "Dualogic troubleshooting Guide". Refer to that also.- 5 replies

Suzuki Rs 2017 highbrid steering rack noise and play
NeroX replied to Mokip's question in Mechanical problems
Anything related. Hope they haven't started sharing components with Japan https://www.motorbeam.com/2017-maruti-dzire-steering-assembly-replaced/ Btw did you try taking it to a good alignment joint. Maybe you could jack it up & look for any play on the wheels or noises coming when turning the steering. Could be anything from your steering rack, track rod, tie-rod ends, lower arms, anti roll bar joints etc. Very peculiar given its a brand new car. -
Exactly what I was worried about. There have been previous instances where people have used non-tutela oil on the dualogic system causing all the oil seals to deteriorate. The electronic valve you're referring to is this. Most probably it has started happening already. Gearbox, Brake fluid I'm not too adamant on using tutela but this is an absolute no no. I went through hell trying to fix my one which was abused previously. Just a word of caution.

Out of curiosity how long ago was this selespeed issue? Do they have selespeed oil n parts in stock? Good to know there's good support arnd for the Punto.

I think when they got the fiat agency people with the italian made puntos started going there for repairs. In the beginning they've had to bring in some of the fiat gurus we refer to in the forum. With time most probably the lolc mechanics learned a thing or two. Nws my opinion nobody knows in detail about these cars. People with the most experience are the safest bet. Hopefully they've had more time to tinker around & learn. With regard to manufacturing in India, they don't own the JV plant anymore. The initial Indian puntos had a mix of Italian & Indian parts but apprently recent iterations have been 99% localised. LOLC has nothing to do with fiat anymore. I actually wrote to FCA Singapore office & they directed me to micro cars given they have some form of sales agreement on Alfa Romeo in SL. But the micro guys were very forthcoming in saying that the agreement has not lead to any significant tech transfer capable of maintaining these cars.

Yup PM'd you as well. Check your messages

Yup! go for a punto. Agree with what crosswind had to say. Be ready for all that negative rap but you'll be able to enjoy a much better car at that price bracket. Negotiate on the price & leave some money for some maintenance work. This is given that at this age the cars may have gone through some makabaas work with some owners resorting to quick fixes/mods & not having the patience to do things properly.

The puntos power shutters are prone to failure. I've repaired 3 out of 4 in mine. There are two types of power shutters one with the remote open/safety release option or the normal one. To check which one you jave just press n hold the door unlock button on ur remote to see if the shutters come down like in a vezel. You got all parts u need on ebay. Just search n get the right part down. If you can hear the motor whirring its most probably the plastic latch broken or the wire. Both wont cost you much to get down. If you knw a good lathe you can actually get it done here. The blue & me can be fixed sometimes. mine didnt work. But after a proxy alignment & installing the language files it started working again. Quite nice to have. A bit of a bother though with everything being done over voice commands. But good to have bkuetooth working & usb playback

You need a genuine fiat scanner or working version of multiecuscan with a modded ELM scanner interface. If you have either you can do it yourself or as crosswind has mentioned go to any fiat mech. Cheers!

Hey, There's quite a number of places you can go to other than the above place. 1. Whexls Lanka (Former Euro Motors) 2. ITxC 3. Nxxt Gear I pmd you some numbers. Please check with them. Cheers, NeroX

Haven't driven one to actually give a review but this engine is one of the best. Very economical & a joy to drive. Its actually transplanted into the diesel maruti suzuki swift which is considered the best selling diesel hatchback in India. The only issue I've heard is that reliability of certain parts are lacking. From experience I can say maintaining a fiat is not for the faint hearted. Maybe a reason why these cars have lost so much value here. But then again given the above price I'd say it's worth the money when comparing the features with some of the sedans available at that price. Just make sure you find a good specimen & keep some spare budget for any repairs that may crop up. If you travel to india or know someone who does, maintenance wouldn't cost much. (g*ogle 99rpm*)

Excellent choice of car. Owned a GE6 previously & I'd buy it again any day. Nimble to drive, ample room inside. Quite comfortable too given from where you're upgrading from. It's basically the same as GP1 minus the hybrid IMA drive. Its got a iVTEC engine so enough oomph for your daily driving (98 hp at 6,000 rpm). Fuel I wouldn't be too enthusiastic about some of those quoted consumption figures. It all depends on how you drive. What you get is just about right. Sadly the car market is so overpriced nowadays that value for money should be compared with what's on offer. For example I sold my car x2 years back for just 2.6Mn (GE6 - 2010, 80k). But let's say compared to some of the 3Mn+ brand new cars on offer (Celerio, Axia, Wigo, Picanto...) this car is way better. As long as you buy one that's well looked after & with max options I'd say its a pretty good deal Plus if you want to differentiate there's whole heap of small mods you could do on this car.
-
No dealer for fiat at present. FCA's singapore agent provides alfa romeos to Mic*o & D*MO does Jeep. But no official agent for fiat appointed. Still there are couple of established places you could go for repairs n parts (Wh**ls lanka, IT*C, Next Ge*r etc). Being familiar with ebay also helps.
-
Some would argue that the said model sold for even less. But if the specimen is well looked after & with all the bells n whistles it just might be worth it. imho this car is very underrated. theres no other car with all the bells & whistles within this price bracket (cruise control, dual zone ac, abs, 3+ airbags, lumbar support etc..)

Mazda Demio Or Honda Fit(Not Hybrid)?
NeroX replied to Carfreak's question in Car Buying Information
Given your space requirement I'd say go for the fit or the passo. If you could stretch a couple of lakhs more you could get a newer 2011+ passo. I drove a 2010 fit GE6 which I'd prefer over any of these cars, but sadly its overpriced now. The GD1 is an evenly awesome car but the CVT gearbox is known to give trouble. If going for one, check the vehicle history for timely maintenance. Other than that its a no brainer if you want good amount of space, comfort & performance. -
Hi, Is this a diesel or petrol? The punto has a CAN bus system which checks intermittently for any electrical faults. This bulb lights up when it detects an error. Normally as soon as you switch on the odometer display it should tell you what to check. If its a bulb it'll say either "Check LHS/Brake Light" etc on the line just above the odometer reading. Most probably it is to do with a burnt bulb as fiatLife has mentioned. If its anything else another corresponding warning light should popup on the instrument cluster. In terms of the sound system, puntos came with an original blaupunkt CD/Radio. Yours seem to have an aftermarket facia/adapter modifying it to mount a standard single-din player. Only way to mount a double-din is to buy a corresponding double din facia. That would modify the two central AC vents to give you some space. OR you could buy a modified DVD player to fit the puntos dimensions. You could try searching on eb** or similar parts website. Cheers!
