  1. Duty for 1.0 L Rs. 1.75 Mn. (127 Bhp) 1.5L Rs. 4.875 Mn. (180 Bhp) 2.0 L Rs. 12.0 Mn. (316 Bhp) Type R It is your money
  2. Most of the known importers get the VAT refund otherwise you cant price most of the vehicles at going rates today. Fuel quality will be the biggest issue as most of the vehicles are tuned for 98 octane and very low sulfur diesels
  3. There is no Vehicle 100% manufactured in a single county they are assembled in the country using parts from all over the world. I had one of the 1st Lancer EX and know for fact that the Engine was manufactured in Germany in the Joint venture company of Daimler Chrysler - Mitsubishi ABS, EFI, HID lights were manufactured by Bosh Other parts would have been manufactured in Japan, China, Thailand, Taiwan etc.. Since you are buying a 5-10 year old car you will have the advantage of knowing the market reputation of a particular model.
  4. Most of the people buy the Picanto thinking it will do 15-20 kmpl then they find out it does only 10-12 kmpl so they sell and queue up to buy Wagon R as it is suppose to do 20-25 kmpl. You really cant sell a car for the same price unless the price of the new car significantly increases due to tax, exchange rate etc. Picanto prices decreased with the new duty structure and there was a model change in latter 2017 so naturally the older model sells for less than Rs. 3.0 Mn. Original price of the 2016 if i remember correct was Rs. 3.2 Mn. So considering the above facts they are doing pretty well in the used market.
  5. Typical bull shit by the by the agents, promises they cant keep, and all of them cover them self with small print or back side of the paper. Demand was so much they took orders without checking the capacity from the principles. This is always the case except for few agents.
  6. A3 Sport back is not a SUV, it is a Hatch back (5 door car) In you price bracket you will find only small SUVs like the Vezel, CH-R, Suzuki SX4 (New) Or you could opt for a bit older mid size CRV, RAV4, X-Trail, Outlander etc. (5-6 years, will be more or less with X1 in the market)
  7. If the cars came in the same shipment under same LC they should not discriminate. However as per the per-forma invoice they can increase the rate for exchange and duty differences. if you don't fight you will not gain anything, keep us updated. I ordered one in Feb 18 due Aug 18
  8. They were quoting Rs. 2.925 Mn. @ Rs. 1.35 Yen/LKR Now Yen/LKR is Rs. 1.5 so technically as per the invoice they can charge you for the difference which will be approximately Rs. 200,000/-
  9. What you have is not the original Kia. It is a cheap Chinese crap. So stop looking at the car manual for instructions. It must be in seek mode, try tuning manually and presetting the stations you like should work.
  10. Very true all public servants should be required to improve their productivity in par with private sector. They should be required to pay taxes, pay duty and buy their vehicles. They should also be given salaries/ remuneration/ facilities in line with their counterparts in the private sector giving consideration to responsibilities/ qualifications/ skills/ experience.
  11. No no best is to get the CRV. It is 1500cc so the duty will be Rs. 4.875 Mn. (1500*3250) car will cost around another Rs. 5.0 Mn. You will end up getting the car in to SL for less than what you would have paid as duty for Mazda 2.0 Deal is to get the model with the lowest engine capacity
  12. They are ok if the passengers are careful when they get in and out. However due to marginal leg space in the back they tend to get crawled under the front seats so you will get dust / sand on the foot wells and sides. Can be cleaned with a good vacuum cleaner.
  13. You don't really need them as they are very hard wearing. Believe me i know what I'm taking about. My eldest christened the car when it was less than 200k when she decided to throw-up in the back seat, i had to remove the seat hose off and dry off for 2 days. 3 kids, 10,7,3 use the car regularly for school run. They eat, drink sleep in the car. 6 months 15000k seats have stood up to all the abuse with regular vacuuming.
  14. RSt will be less than Rs. 4.5 Mn. has good performance / economy combination generously equipped Only downside is the interior is full of black hard plastic. But this is the case with most of the cars in this price bracket.
  15. Some thing more powerful will require a higher capacity engine. This will increase the duty payable which will be substantial portion of your budget. You will not be able to buy a decent car
  16. If i remember correct Q5 was offered around Rs. 11 Mn. including the price of the permit in 2012-2013 Same car used will trade around Rs. 7-8 Mn. now
  17. I don't think maintenance cost will be any different to a BMW or Merc. These cars cost high you have to factor that for the spares as well Due to higher performance you need to factor the premium for oils, filters, tires, brake pads etc. which will not last as well as in a average Jap. If you are concern about the maintenance and resale there are Japanese (Thailand) or Korean options.
  18. there was a recent change in permits just check your permit it may not be valid anymore cos there is no CIF ceiling in the new one. You might have to reapply under new circular
  19. 3 cylinder cars are not necessarily bad. of cause they can not be smooth as a 4 cylinder. So is 4 cylinder compared to a 6, or 6 to 8, 8 to 12. But in terms of efficiency for small engine especially sub 1000 cc. translating into better fuel economy and efficiency, this is one of the reasons even most of the high end manufactures opting to 3 cylinders for their base models. (BMW, Audi). Engine vibrations can be countered to certain extent by counter balance shafts, fly wheel, higher idle, better engine mounts. Most of the time you really don't feel it. My BIL had a 1000 cc Vitz for almost 10 years, did over 100k, maintained the car well, changed engine mounts with originals midway when the rubber was getting stiff with age. Vibration was never an issue. Of cause it could never compete with a 4 port for smoothness especially when idling or at hard acceleration. In Sri Lanka current duty regime has a huge advantage for 1000 cc or less engines which is not a bad thing for buyers, especially when the price difference of 1000cc and 1500 cc is over Rs. 3M (duty only).
  20. I have a Picanto it does only 10-11 kmpl in Colombo if you are concern about that go for the Wagon R Picanto drives and rides much better and has a bigger car feel and will be much comfortable. Sub Rs. 3 Mn. is the basic with manual, check on the safety features. (air bags, ABS), wagon R, has air bags, ABS and stability control, some of them have optional safety pack with autonomous breaking and lane assist. What A*W brings down is the same vehicle available in Japanese domestic market (FZ) Difference in FX and the FZ are mostly cosmetic like the lights, wheels, seat material etc. A*W has a long waiting list due to the warranty and attractive price. Your should be able to insure the car in sons name as the driver as he will have insurable interest. Check with the company and get the all the documentation done properly.
  21. He must be true, this us why all the used cars for sale irrespective of age has done less than 100k. Poor fellow how buys a 15 year old car with 75-80K gets a worn out engine as the actual mileage could be over 200K. Majority of the cars are not properly maintained, most of odd service joints do not change filters unless you keep an eye on what is happening. This also could cause premature engine wear.
  22. Not at 100k it will start getting worn from the day you start using the engine. This is the case with any item that is made out of cells that cannot regenerate. IMO there is no rule of thumb for a millage on which an engine could be considered worn-out it as it will depend on type of use, maintenance etc.
  23. 7 seat is not offered by the local agent, only option is to get one from Australia from where most of the car sales people import them. Middle row of the 7 seat is different and is supposed to be not comfortable as the 5 seat, 3 rd row may not be that comfortable or spacious.
