wonder anyone else has noticed a correlation between the vehicle stock of used dealers and higher taxed vehicles eg: x-trail, Prius.

Hope they are getting it down on a permit if so you should be ok,

Recall is for Gasoline Car hybrids are not affected http://www.honda.co.jp/recall/160404_3797.html http://www.honda.co.jp/recall/160404_3798.html

Actually there is no telltale sign of lightning damage to the car. I’m assuming that the high voltage of the lighting (over 20,000 V) could induce substantial voltage in the battery or electronics damaging them.
-
My thoughts as well, when lightning struck ground residual current would have got induced through the battery or alternator. Car was parked on grass and house damage was also through the earth.
-
Nope he had the car for the last 5 years,

Thought I will share this as this as this might interest members and also may benefit from the experience. Few days back my BIL had parked the car (Toyota Vitz) in my garden during a thunder storm and a lightning struck close by. My house was also affected with burned ceiling fans and couple of burned bulbs (CFL/LED) main fuses in the electricity meter was blown and the entire house also got tripped. Fortunately may wife who was at home had sense to pull out the plugs from the TV and other stuff so the damage was minimal. But when my BIL tried to start the car although it cranked car newer started. All the other stuff including the instrument cluster was working. Only unusual indicator was a blinking coolant temperature light. For what it is worth we decided to call the insurance company and when the guy came on following day morning the battery was also dead. We had to tow the car to the garage and even the diagnostics (OBD) were not working. Apparently the ECU (two ICs) and the alternator has got fried, this is as of now and we may need to replace the ECU and run OBD to see whether there is further damage. He may get 50% of the claim form the insurance (have to wait and see) Members my advice keep you vehicles indoor during thunderstorms, may not be practical all the time but may save you from lot of pain and hassle.

Nissan Leaf And Future Of Electric Vehicles In Sri Lanka
kush replied to zee boy's topic in General Automotive
I have a Leaf and a Fit GP5 Leaf average 4.5 Km/ Kwh so that is Rs. 10/- which i intend to cut down to Rs. 2.89 with TOU metering (with out car charging i consume around 300 units so there is a saving even without factoring EV charging), if you have access to commercial rate for EV charging it will be Rs. 4-5 per Km Fit does around 12 Km/ l i.e. Rs. 9.75/- So even if you charge at Rs. 45 you break even , when you factor servicing you save. -
I thought I use this tread rather than starting a new. Does anyone has experience in time based electricity metering (TOU) According to ECB they offered this initially to 3 phase consumers http://www.ceb.lk/new-tariff-to-facilitate-electric-vehicles-announced/ Although cost of the meter is announced to be priced at Rs. 8,750/- I was given an estimate of Rs. 32K (Rs.8,750/- to programme the meter and Rs. 24K for others costs, break down was not given) by the way I have 30 Amp, 3 phase at home. No one at CEB so far was able to give me answers to my simple questions on the system. I was wondering whether any of the members or anyone known to them converted to the new tarrif just to get some details before I switch.

For parts like this UM is the best when u give vehicle details they will give you a quote and generally parts will come within couple pf weeks. I don't think anybody stock them. I found the prices they quote for the parts ordered to be reasonable may be due to the fact that they do not need to stock or tie up their money on them

A recent event that I thought might interest owners of Honda hybrids Few days back I made an aggressive pick up on my Fit GP5 and there was bit of a noise from the transmission and the engine stalled. When I restarted the engine the whole dash lit up with check engine, EPS, VSC and hill start fail lights. I stopped immediately and restarted with the same result. Since the indicators in the main screen was amber and I was not far away from home I decided to drive home. On my way I did not notice any issues apart from the indicators. Which led me to assume that I may have managed to make system go bonkers as there could be no way that all systems could fail in a fraction of a second. I thought I will take the car to S******D and get it checked on the following day. I knew that the general remedy for these type of issue is to clear the errors first and check whether they re appear. (experience from my previous Lancer EX) Thought stuck me what if I reset/ initialize the ECU, generally when you google sometimes you find how to get about this however it was not the case for GP5. So I decided to experiment with removing the auxiliary battery (one you get in the engine bay) and refit after about half an hour or so. It worked and not only it cleared the errors it also managed to erase all the nasty habits ECU has learned over the last year from me, wife and the driver. Car is much smoother now and there is a remarkable improvement in fuel economy as well as per the indicator as well as brim to brim check. Only down side was I had to re-program all the radio settings and the clock.

No issue for Sri Lanka CARWIN does not work here

It was the case with my car as well. Thankfully the dealer who sold the vehicle got a new card and it is fine now. I was told that they had to send the unit to Japan and get a new card programmed it took more than a month. If you buy the basic car you can swap the head unit, however the higher versions have even the climate control functions display through the set. If SD not there DO NOT BUY

Death Of Electric Vehicles In Sl After Budget (Example: Leaf)
kush replied to MoneyMaker's topic in General Automotive
I hope they will still implement time based metering. Which also will benefit CEB on load balancing. @ Rs. 13.5 per KWh you can power a leaf at Rs. 2.50-3.00 per Km. which is equivalent to 40 Kmpl. -

I do agree, brough a Nissan Leaf for office commute 35 Km round daily, which consumes approximatly 6-7 KWh (5 Km/ KWh) with is much better than the CRV @ 7 Kmpl from a envirnment as well as economic point of view. I would not have brough the Leaf if it was not less than Rs. 3.0 Mn. at Rs. 5.0 Mn. it does not make sense for most. -

Unless you use solar. SL has blended power generation renewable as well as fossil. So part of the electricity generated is green. Besides efficiency of thermal power generation is more efficient than average internal combustion engine and therefore produce less pollution. Electric cars are more efficient in city traffic than IC Even now 50% duty is much lower than hybrid at 90%, only issue is the cost of electric vehicles are high comparatively. However the cost is coming down and the range is improving due to ne battery technology eventually people will come in to terms with this. -
Last permit scheme started in March 2007, most of them got the second vehicle in 2012, next will be due 2017 by that time there will be a new scheme as most of the policy making govt. servants (treasury / central bank/ ministry secretaries ) will be yarning for them. GMOA will be up in arms.

Brought a Leaf AZE0 (2013) X, as a daily runner to office, may eventually replace Fit GP5 as the second car considering that I can easily get what I paid for it a year back and Rs. 1 Mn. to hand. (or for eventual battery replacement if s**t happens) My experience of two cars after two weeks Economy: does around 6 km/KWh that works out to around Rs. 7.5 per Km. (same as GP5, 16 Km/L) This is based on domestic connection at Rs. 45 / unit will be much cheaper if you use commercial or time based metering. By the way they have not yet implemented time based however are collecting applications. May take a while to get down to Rs. 2.5 Km. Or less with solar and net metering. Based on recommendation in the manual I’m charging up to 80% capacity which gives me approximately 70km range discharging up to 20%, this works up to approximately 120 km effective range in Malabe – Colombo office commute (return with lights on), yet to test long distance. Driving experience: Not as entertaining as the GP5 (S) which has more power with less weight. Acceleration is good up to about 80 kmph which makes it easier to drive in city traffic. In cornering you feel the weight of the car and lighter steering does not gives much feel to what the front wheels are up to. However single speed transmission and absolutely no lag when you press the accelerator makes it easier to drive fairly quickly. Comfort: Mine is with 16 inch tyres even with 36 psi it does not feel very uncomfortable, i would say in par with GP5 16 inches. Centre transmission tunnel or hump whatever you call it makes this strictly a two seater for adults. Children complain on less freedom to move about. GP5 has more rear leg room. Seats are soft and not very supportive which will definitely make it uncomfortable in long journeys, which in any case will be limited due to shorter range so will not matter much in real life. Built quality of the car does not feel as good as the GP5 and I miss little touches such as a wipe to clear the screen as you take off in intermittent wiper mode. One touch signalling for lane change which gives three blinks. Hard supportive seats with non slip upholstery. Switch gear which feels more solid. I would say that the basic car makes the most sense as it has more controls in the main display and the radio can be swapped for something better. If you don’t have the SD card the central display will be only the reverse camera and you will lose all programming controls, clock, even climate control options.

how much were you getting on RX8

had one for over 6 months, good audio over head phones, HD screen (have not seen this sub 20k range) can be abused as well as a Nokia

1.5L EPS, 2.0L Hydraulic 1st time heard about this issue
-
I have not used Grace, however have been using a GP5 on which it is based for the last 6 months Economy – Urban 16-17kmpl, highway (100 kmph with cruise control 23-24kmpl) Acceleration 0-100km less than 10 sec. in gear acceleration pretty good, very nimble can be driven at decent pace, better than CRV, Lancer EX, Corolla 141 in terms of acceleration.

Why bother when jap hybrid will be cheaper
-
I got down a car in December 2014 (FIT GP-5) You really don’t get the best price from the auction as you will need to bid through an agent in SL, best prices will be for the vehicle re sellers and regulars. On top of the auction price there will be substantial handling charge, approximately JPY 200-400k depending on the vehicle. They normally do not insure, so advice you to get insurance arranged locally to avoid any risk if the unfortunate happens. Depending on the vehicle you might have to remit part of your cost through unofficial channels and the cost (exchange rate) will be high. All in all the cost saving might not be worth the effort considering the fact that you are exposed to exchange and duty fluctuations. Classic example would be the guys who got buggered from last budget. My saving from the vehicle was Rs. 200k (Rs. 3.8 Mn. Vs Rs. 4.0 Mn)

Turbo engines due to higher efficiency has better power / economy balance and also better emissions. Lower displacement engines and low fuel consumption / emissions have tax advantages in some European countries. Better fuel quality, lubricant quality and climate conditions contribute to more reliability on the engines. Technically this should apply to JDMs too.
