  1. That's nothing, I know a guy who turns lead into gold and water into gasoline.
  2. Just downloaded it in PDF, couldn't find it in the Kindle store. Edit: spoke too soon, the link was a red herring.
  3. That's the automatic choke isn't it?
  4. I'm surprised no one brought up the Y2K fiasco. And on another related note, my dad's birthday is on 12/21. I wonder if I should budget for a gift this year, or use the funds for frivolous spending...
  5. Just to add, there are some permit vehicles on the road without the red bits on the number plates.
  6. You really should read up on the Benz 300SEL 6.3 and the 450SEL 6.9.
  7. Could've spent the extra dough on a car shopping trip to Japan instead.
  8. After 30 years of "happy/prosperous" new years, please understand my less than enthusiastic approach to this next one.

  9. Yeah I've seen that car. In a former life it was a Vios. Reminds me of a gene splicing experiment gone horribly wrong.
  10. K10 March Super Turbo ftw.
  11. Ulysse Speedometer - This is a fun toy I use. The interface is extremely slick, and the display is quite accurate. I use it has an intelligent trip meter.
  12. @ripper thanks for the info, that will be the first thing I do next year, assuming i'm sufficiently sober on Monday. @reckless my driver's window (the one with the express down feature) does this once every so often, it happens to me when I use the express feature in quick succession several times both ways. The best thing is to leave it for a minute as it is, and then roll it up without using the express feature i.e. short pull on the switch and hold till the window is fully closed.
  13. @ripper I think my car has taken more than one trip through the cost cutting axe. I want to take apart the door card and identify the switch, but it would be an exercise in futility if like you say the BCM handles it. @sylvi you're almost correct, what I want is the 'single press', or more commonly known as the 'express down' feature most vehicles have for the windows. That way if I want to completely open all 4 windows, I just have to press the 4 switches once firmly and they will roll down on their own.
  14. While on the subject of power window switches, I'm envious of those who have the AUTO function for all four windows on the driver's controls. Any idea if the functionality is contained in the switch or control module? I would so love to be able to just shut all the windows without giving them a second thought.
  15. The next big issue needing to be addressed will be the inevitable breakdown (already in process, imho) of highway etiquette, and the subsequent free for all that will ensue. The current police presence is simply few and far in between, and the clincher will be the narrow shoulder; the carpeted road leading to Devata has a wider shoulder than the highway itself.
  16. Due to a lull in the festive activities last night, I'm sober enough to post on A/L. I noticed three Ashok Leylands travelling on the E01 during my aforesaid trip to Galle, they appeared to be well behaved, but honestly they don't have enough room in their lane to have a comfortable enough drive, it's more like driving a slot car. There was only one dog, right at the Pinnaduwa exit when the left lane merges with the right; most carcasses were of 'mugatiyas' (mongoose), and saw quite a few crossing the road as well. There was also one Yaris driver who straddled the both lanes and simply did not afford us an opportunity to pass him; he would drift into the left lane at the last moment and was oblivious to our flashing headlights and frantic honking. Finally managed to overtake him on a right hand bend when he went into the shoulder and nearly hit the railing. Picture can be posted upon request. Also came across a green Maruti 800 straddling the right hand lane doing 80 or less, forcing us to overtake them from the left. We saw him move into the left hand lane after we shot him dirty looks while overtaking. I should also add, the said Maruti was in very bad nick, the left rear tire was bouncing like mad, I had assumed the POS would have shook itself to bits by the time it arrived in Colombo. The most common affliction of many drivers is that, while they do signal before pulling into the right lane, they either don't look in their mirrors before doing so, or lack the ability to judge how fast the car in the mirror is travelling. Of course there could be the a third and more obvious reason, but that just pisses me off.
  17. Kia Optima.
  18. Buying a Serena are we?
  19. I have the Pioneer AVH-P3300BT (not installed yet). It's got a bunch of useful options (for me), like bluetooth integration including dialing using the touchscreen, reverse camera, usb + sd, and the ability to play a lot of media formats (sadly not FLAC). Plus it comes with a remote, which the P3200 does not. The P2300DVD does not have an SD Card slot and ready to use BT, and has a smaller screen.
  20. I'm not sure if you guys are referring to an additional fence system, but yesterday while travelling to Galle there was continuous fencing all the way to Pinnaduwa, in green and orange. The dogs I believe circumvent the fences by crawling through the many drainage ditches that line the roads, which are probably not blocked off by any kind of grating due to the additional maintenance required. On a another note, saw a red X1 with a blown rear tire, and came across quite a few places on the road with tire debris. And at least 3 cars were stopped along the way to see the sights. Made it to Pinnaduwa in about 45 minutes travelling at roughly 120-140km/h. Police weren't that bothered, passed 3 speed guns on the way. I think they are on the watch out mostly for reckless drivers.
  21. I've been trying to wrap my brain around Chicane's Thousand Mile Stare this month.
  22. Better to invest in a nice multi-format dvd head unit which supports usb and SD card along with reverse camera facility. Plenty of brand names cover those options.
  23. I'm pretty sure Ambrosia is short for Ambralla Dosi. Can't get enough of the stuff.

  24. Torn between Beyerdynamic DT880/250 and Westone 3
