So I got this honda civic recently (FK6), and I forgot to consider the size of my garage. It now is parked with the full hood exposed, and literally you could park for 30 minutes and some crow will shit on it. I'm tired of having a cloth on the hood as a temporary solution, as the crow poop manages to seep through... I have to wash the bonnet every single day because of that. I'll be moving soon so investing on a garage extension is not worth it, so I was thinking of getting a car cover, but I heard most of the ones in the market are very low quality and scratch up the vehicle overtime. I'm looking for high quality recommendations that won't damage my car, won't trap heat and protects from rain and bird poop. Recommendations?

Yes, I wonder what kind of cost it takes to do this. The previous owner did not do it. Might enquire on this too when I goto the agent for the radiator coolant check plus the potential leak on tapet cover. Been bed-ridden due to a disc slip, so haven't been able to do much.

Hey, I did a Car-Check inspection before purchasing the vehicle, it was 66k run, and 98.5% on CarChecks. There's a few flags raised by them; radiator coolant level needs to be checked and tapet cover has some oil stains; the seller showed me a bill dating less than 4 weeks ago from the agent showing they got the turbo cleaned and tapet cover repair done. I called Stafford to verify and they told me they'd fix free of charge if it was still the case but would also encourage me to bring it in so they can clean it and run it for a bit to verify if it is actually leaking or just not properly cleaned. But by reading all you've mentioned, I don't think I'll goto the agent after this initial work is done and will stick to Hybrid Hub, which is where I maintained my Vitz and got the overhaul from (Only gripe - 18% VAT on everything including spare parts, and it pisses me off).

Advice Needed: Honda City RS or Toyota Raize 1.2?
Noobdriver replied to Noobdriver's topic in Feedback & Suggestions
Honestly, my purchase decision on the Civic was features, youthful design, and most importantly comfort and pulling power. We only have 1 family car, which is my Civic. My parents are getting old and I wanted to get a comfortable car for them to travel on long distances without significant discomfort, plus getting the whole family on the Vitz = frustrating as hell if you go towards Kandy and Nuwara Eliya, the pulling power is just too less and petrol efficiency goes down like crap (I went alone to Kandy from Colombo and got 15 kmpl, with parents and lil bro, it was 10 kmpl, so big difference). -
I got an FK6 (EX) about 2 weeks ago, and I saw this thread and decided to give this a read thinking it might help with the everyday maintenance. I'm now terrified to run it after reading @misnad's misfortunes. Dude you sound like me with the Vitz, except in my case, I had an engine overhaul too. Transmission and AC were the only two untouched parts.

Hey guys, got an FK6 Civic recently, and I'm dying with the heat these days. Any updates on recommendations for tints for mixed day/night driving? Ideally something that can keep the heat out and helps with glare at night (I wear glasses).

Advice Needed: Honda City RS or Toyota Raize 1.2?
Noobdriver replied to Noobdriver's topic in Feedback & Suggestions
Yo, the only plus I see for the Aqua is the bigger engine compared to Vitz, but I would never get an Aqua. Vitz is way more comfortable and has a clean interior. Aqua interior design is so messed up, I can't stand the instrument cluster being aligned to the center. @matroska @iRage When I was in KL, I used to drive a Honda Grace all the time from my friend's rental business (he used to let me have a car for a day or two when there were no bookings or for a very cheap price), and those were badged as Honda City. I'm assuming, in that case, that the new Honda City is the successor to the Grace and not the Civic. However, they had an insanely better driving feel (I believe a different type of transmission and engine) than the Grace, and I hate the Grace with a passion. Also, yes, the FK6 Civic turned out to have way more options and features than the Honda City RS, and I got it for significantly cheaper than the Honda City RS, so it was a no-brainer for me. I started thinking why I didn't consider a Civic. Most importantly, the lumbar support on the Civic is super useful for me, as I have back issues. Given my driving style, I'm not the most happy with Civic, miss cutting and chopping in Colombo traffic as the Vitz was super compact and agile, while the Civic to me, sometimes feels like a boat (I guess I drove the Vitz a little too long, lol.). -

Thank you guys, I bought neither, I just settled for a mint FK6 I found in the market, but I guess this thread can serve still useful for buyers who're comparing the two extremely similarly priced brand new options in the market. -
Oil burn haunts - Toyota Vitz 2011 (KSP130)

Oh yeah dude, I did drive it to Galle late at night using Galle Road, I love the bends in there. My Vitz did most corners at 70 km/h, a few of em were a bit slippery, but the civic, super bloody stable. -

Of course, brother, here it is! Honestly, I miss the Vitz. Overtaking is so much easier on the Vitz, it's such a tiny hot hatch that can squeeze through anything lmfao. In traffic, Civic is too long and feels like a boat (I was a very aggressive Vitz driver, total opposite of what people think of Vitz drivers). -

Thank you, brother! Vitz was more than just a car for me, it was my first car. I had too many memories with it, and it was very hard to let go, but my bank account just couldn't foot the continuous repair bills, lol. -

Hey, I did an oil change after another 5,000 km, like 3 weeks ago, had an oil leak in the crank pulley, the seal had worn off and I was nearly at the 5,000 km mark. Just a quick 3,000 rupee repair with labour and the car was totally good, ran a good 1,000 km. However, I sold it last Tuesday and got myself an FK6 for a change lol. At first I thought the car buyers would shit their pants when I mention the engine overhaul, but the guy who bought it was really happy to see that I put in the money to repair it properly from a reputed agent and the warranty still exists till June this year. I told him all the issues transparently and he was very happy to purchase the car given the absolute mint condition I had the car in. I'm glad I was able to sell the car at a very good competitive price in the market with all honesty and no bs. Gives me a clear conscience and peace. -
Icl, all the Kias look very tacky. But also, most new cars look straight from a Sci-Fi movie, so weird. 2010-2019 had the best looking cars.

You mean a Picanto?

What's everyone's opinion on the best bang-for-the-buck (Sub 12 million) family car?
-
I don't think there is a significant change in prices, more so, I think the prices have gone up a little bit in a lot of the lower end cars like GP5, Swift, Vitz. Also, I saw a convoy of GR Hiluxes in Duplication Road with Garage numbers ripping through the streets. It was a sight to be seen!

For up-hill areas, avoid a 1L Vitz (the new Yaris has the same engine; 1KR-FE). Generally, driving from Colombo to Kandy is not a major problem for me, as long as I use the throttle correctly, and speed up before steeper climbs but there is always that one dude who was not paying attention and usually with a less performant vehicle, they're now struggling to climb and doing so slowly, so you'll also have to end up having to slow down and that's when the struggle begins, but Kandy is not that bad, just bad fuel economy. The fun starts when you're heading towards Nuwara Eliya. As you approach closer, the climbs get steeper, and I don't recall being able to go over 40-50 km/h no matter how much I tried at most climbs. I also had to cancel my hotel reservation as it had a steep slope downwards towards where the hotel is located and I knew for sure, my car would be able to make it down safely, but I won't be able to drive it back up. -- Also, as many have mentioned, there's no 1L Hybrid variant, there's just a petrol variant for 1L Yaris. GP1 (1.3L Hybrid) or most 1.5L car should be fine.

Yo, that's interesting, but at the same time, not very surprising. That's a very classy-looking car, newer cars look like crap.

Looking for some help with European cars Benz/BMW/Audi
Noobdriver replied to Cool06's question in Car Buying Information
From my very limited knowledge about European cars, they're very expensive in terms of repairs and spare parts. If 17 million is not a significant amount for you, go for it, but if it is all you have, I would advice against it unless you have a very high income. A friend of mine had a minor accident and it costed him half a million to replace the front grill, etc. -
Yeah, man, it is always the budget buyers who get screwed. I paid 5.4 Mn in 2023 for my 2011 KSP130 Vitz (1L). I only bought it out of sheer desperation. I cannot do motorcycles, and Ubers are extremely hard to find here. I just wanted a reliable car to take me from home-work-home and a few road-trips and so on.

Oh, I wish I could shell out that much. I might just bet on a 2017 Swift tanking a little and see if that would work out. If not, I'll probably keep my current car. I'm just a 24 year old who got lucky to be able to afford his first car at 23.
-
A newer car for a budget buyer like myself looking to upgrade from a 2011 Vitz, I basically have to shell out ~10M to get a new Yaris with the same exact engine in my car right now or significantly more. This is crazy.

Oil burn haunts - Toyota Vitz 2011 (KSP130)
Noobdriver replied to Noobdriver's question in Mechanical problems
I think the first one was just condensation, when I started the car, nothing wrong, I placed the car on reverse gear and hit the gas pedal a little bit, and it started smoking crazy for a second or two and it stopped. Compression test not yet, I pointed them it out and they were like its not necessary, but I was thinking its needed to do but wonder what a proper place would be to get one so if there's any issue I have something to back myself up after getting it from the other place and getting them to do one. No, metal shaving was a little bit in the first service, the third service I just asked them whether it was a thing still and the mechanic was like it looks clean. -- About smelling smoke, I don't know how to describe the smell, it smells like literally smoke from the car exhaust, idk how to describe, I'm not good with smells. -- Hmm, that's insane. Hopefully nothing serious. I don't want to crash another 360k. -

Noobdriver replied to Noobdriver's question in Mechanical problems
Yes, there was a day with excessive smoking for like 3 seconds on a cold start, but to be fair it was fairly cold that day (around November). I'm not sure what you mean by compression, do you mean I should do a compression test? Metal shaving, I pointed this out, they said that is not a problem apparently. Wonder if there is a lab I could send samples to? Exactly, I was like how does 5w30 to 10w30 help lol. The warm engine and never had smoking issues. Cold start, I can smell some smoke, but nothing visible.
