    Can I Afford A Car?

During mid to late 90's when CBK issued permits weren't 110's AT210's priced around the million mark unreg? Even during early - mid 2000's just before the king was crowned unreg prices of the about 2 models (without permits) were around 2mil Even in developed countries wages hardly keep up with inflation. But then again those countries only have single digit inflation numbers mostly hovering in the midway mark. In comparison i doubt even the central bank governor is aware of the inflation figures in our motherland. As i see it the main reason for the opulent lifestyle of the locals is due to the easy availability of credit and change in priorities.
  2. Huh!!! you are happy the tax went up so the number of Vezels been imported in the future will be less and not too many people will be able to afford it????????? I was going to make a post saying maybe we should tone down the hybrid bashing as we may come across a little immature (like our elakiri brothers lol) specially since we pride ourselves as the premier Automoble forum etc.. But then when you hear things as comical as the one above it made me realize what an idiot I've been for thinking we are the immature bunch. The irony is, this joker bought his Vezel under the low duty structure and now he don't want anyone to get one under he same low cost.
  3. You can also tell your parents about likes of PewDiePie and other similar video game commentators who are raking in millions on Youtube
  4. Here a curve ball, how many of these personnel importers have genuinely ordered a car for their personnel use and not for resell? and how many of them will now end up selling their car due to the price advantage they received? Anyway as some has already mentioned, congratulations and a pat in the back to the group of individuals who started this protest/movement, it was bit sad to see that there wasn't as much support/encouragement from AL.
  5. Price of the granite depends on where the actual stone comes from as well as the colors, patterns on the stone. So it may not be a fair price comparison. Apparently brown and off white tones are the most common and economical kind. Since Quartz is man/artificially made there a huge price difference depend on the quality and where the stone is made. So you can pick one that falls within your budget. Recycled glass counter tops are gaining popularity as well. Not sure if available in SL. About stains and granite countertops, well its a common problem with any natural stone. But if the countertop was fabricated properly then applying regular sealant once a year or so is enough. Its rather a different story if using a natural stone tile as a back splash. I'd definitely avoid it for the area directly behind the stove.
  6. oh shoot i'm in the wrong forum lol....
  7. I think you guys are over analyzing OPs use of the phrase 'real SUV', i think what he's looking for is a 'big' (size wise) SUV
  8. Was he trying to smuggle the car in to the country? Wouldn't it be cheaper to send the car in a RoRo and the personnel stuff in a box?
  9. Isn't anyone with a DSLR these days a Pro photographer lol....
  10. I wonder if Kia and Hyundai marketing team hired a Sri Lankan Axio/Allion/Prius driver as a consultant to end up with this LOL... U.S. Fines Hyundai, Kia for Fuel Claims
  11. WTF!!! no one even considering the possibility that we may have someone else in power after the election and things may go down a very different path. sigh...
  12. Breaking news.... climate control car market just crashed in SL... LOl...
  13. Now that's a great strategy, do the cheap repair first for free and then advice the customer the cost of the next step and let the placebo effect take over lol...
  14. In any market where north American brands aren't that common, they gona look humongous. Machang if you ever get bored with your day job apply for a job at Japaneses consulate/embassy there. You'll easily land a job to promote Japaneses exports/products lol...
  15. Lets not pass the buck here. Haven't we all at some point driven like an a_hole...
  16. That is such a valid point, i never thought of that. Atleast for diesel vehicles buyers have to pay a premium upfront (well even that was minimized thanks to the car permits). Yet another demonstration of how narrow sighted this regime is.
  17. I don't think local bought cars intentionally as an investment. Since car prices always had an upward trend lot of folks spent lot more than they could afford on a car thinking if they ever run to any financial issues they can sell the car without incurring a loss. Somewhat similar to what happened in the US housing market that led to the financial meltdown. I don't think stemming the influx of imports is the answer. Unless you prefer only a selected/privileged group of individuals to be car owners. Plus I'm sure if the government does go ahead with such a program within no time we all will be bitching about how expensive and difficult it is to buy an new car. What needs to happen obviously is to upgrade the infrastructure and/or boost the quality of public transport services.
  18. Bit of a dumb question, while on the subject of electronic power steering, is there no maintenance involved with this component? Any preventative maintenance one can do?
  19. S_N why don't you tell us a bit about your new purchase. Forum is overflown with Lance, Axio, Axela etc threads it'll be nice to hear about a genuine exotic.
  20. Who actually shot/produced this video? The politician himself? as a publicity stunt? as part of his election propaganda? Back in the days strategy was to make sure there a huge turnout for the main political rallies to demonstrate that the people are behind you and the party. Now the trend is to demonstrate/showcase how much one can spend on his campaign.
  21. Niceee.... congrats Fuzzo. Is it too early for a AutoLanka Porsche owners club lol.. Talking about Porshe's do you know if the local agents will offer the Macan under the permit? There will be quite a bit of interest for that one among the local folks.
  22. So how did our baby hamu do? Oh and is that our very own Fuzzo in the Cayenne?

    Service In First 1000Km

Going slightly off topic here, at what mileage does Mitsu/UniMo recommend to adjust the valve clearance (after the initial 1k service of course). And here's the stupid part of the question, ho important is to adjust the valve clearance?
  24. Abusing and manipulating power to amass vast amounts of wealth has been happening ever since sudda left our country. So this is not something new. What’s so disgraceful is how openly this is practiced by the individuals attached to the present regime. I'm with MD on this. These 'people' have lot to loose and most to gain by making connections at high places. Its not like these fancy cars run on water and bullock cart wheels.
  25. Sampath, so did you end up buying the part yourself or through the local agent? Assuming the car is under warranty how will buying/installing your own parts comply with the warranty?
