  1. 1) Acer Aspire 5613 2) Asus A6rp 4) Toshiba satellite L100 I've mentioned pretty much all the specifications I know about the three laptops. As I said earlier I need the notebook for college, so it has to be reasonably fast, adequate graphics to play a few games like WOW, etc. It also has to be very very efficient and reliable.
  2. Thanks for all the info guys. So im guessing a duo core would be much better than a celeron. A lot of notebooks I've seen these days are all Celeron M. I found a acer 1.73 Ghz duo core with 80Gb, 1 GB RAM,, and with a Intel GMA 950 with 224mb. I also saw a Asus 1.86 Ghz celeron-M, 60Gb, 512 RAM, and it had a ATI Xpress 200M with 128 mb. Asus and Acer seem to be the cheapest and with the most options. The asus was aso 10,000 bucks cheaper. The toshiba satellite L100 is 100,000 but has a 1.6Ghz celeron-M. What would be the best buy?
  3. Hey guys, what's the difference between a Celeron processor and a Celeron-M processor? Which is better?
  4. Yes sorry wrote it quite fast. I didnt realise I had a few mistakes.
  5. Well said. The majority of sri lankans still think they can obtain free goods. Some idiot comes along promises everything and our people vote for him. The ordinary sri lankan mentality and their way of thinking has to be changed. I know a few people who are fixed in their ways and believe sri lanka should become a socialist country, and are completely against capitalism. How do they expect sri lanka to achieve economic growth and development? Our president is just trying to be a dictator and is ruining this country. There was only one dictator who made his country into the wonder it is today and thats Lee Kuan Yew.
  6. Well they always say, the president of the country reflects its people.
  7. No doubt about it, Alfa romeo's look gorgeous. Though I know a friend who bought a alfa romeo 156 in 2001 from the dealer which was carmart I think. Well they had so many problems with the car and had o take it virtually everyday to the dealer, until one day the exhaust fell one day on the road. They were so fed up, they traded it in for a passat, which was trouble free. I think alfa came last too in a top gear survey they had on 2003 on reliability, qulaity, and alfa as a brand. Well maybe there are some lucky owners without problems. The newer models seem fine its only the older models that have had issues.
  8. Whats the going price of a 156 these days? I remember seeing a 2000 model in good condition for 1.7 some time ago. Quite cheap but with alfa's history I'll be scared to touch one.
  9. Hehe the last sentence is quite true
  10. Bulletproof? Wheres the point in that?
  11. How about a Maruti Omni? You'll have to wear a bag over your head though.
  12. That is true, but like I said why should you worry about the price of petrol if you can spend so much on a vehicle
  13. yeah. It looks way too retro. Doesn't micro copy designs of Chinese cars?
  14. Well this is kinda O/T but this is really funny. I was watching t.v when some smart ass said that the only way to reduce congestion on roads, and to reduce pollution would be to increase a litre of petrol by 100 bucks. He said that everything would be sorted overnight. We get all types of people in this country To also reduce obesity I have a feeling food prices might go up even more. Don't you just love this government
  15. Yeah I think it looks hideous
  16. Well selling V6s are quite hard. At the moment only luxury cars that are V6s will be bought. People who spend 5 million on a montero wouldn't mind paying for petrol.
  17. Yeah I guess if I could buy it abroad I would get the best deal. Saw a Dell in hong kong 2.0Ghz, 160Gb, 2Gb ram, for Rs.80,000
  18. Oops!!
  19. Ive seen a few of thoose vans. To be honest they seem really cramped. I'm not too sure but I believe the engine sizes of most of these vans should be 800cc. I'm guessing you could find an uregistered van for 1.2. Not too sure though. If you don't need the space you could get a car withe the same fuel consumption. Taking horsepower and engine size, I guess you can't overtake that easily. Maybe someone else with experience with these vans could help you.
  20. Hope I'm not breaking forum rules, but just take a look at the autolanka classifieds at the price of the 2003 montero and 1999 montero. Its crazy!!!
  21. Thanks guys for all your comments. I'll be going to Singapore and I know you can get some laptops at a reasonable price, but unfortunately I have so much to spend on, I will have to buy the laptop on credit card so buying the laptop is outta the question. Ive heard from some of my friends that their compaq computers have given a lot of trouble. maybe with the older models. I also have to buy from the official agents to get the warranty available in Singapore. All that I could find was the acer aspire 5613, toshiba satellite, and an asus. I went on softlogic's website, but I couldn't find any prices. I'm guessing they must be way outta my range. @madmax- could you tell me if you bought your laptop from the agents because if you did, that would be a very good deal. @speeddemon200- Sony's vaio seems nice but waay too much for me. Like you said, I'm a little bit weary of Acer. I'm unfamiliar with it and I don't know how long it'll go before it gives me problems. Some people have had problems with it. @The Don - Yeah, Toshiba does have a very good warranty, and they seem to be quite hardy, though for the price, acer offers more. @xXX- Wel i'm not that much of a heavy gamer, but I need a graphics card that could support a few games that require T&l. Probably like a ATI mobility X1400 or less. It has to have more than 64mb. The GMA 950 on the acer aspire doesnt even support T&L.
  22. Well i need a laptop with a lot of memory, and should have quite a lot of ram. Since I'll be away for some time, I need a dependable notebook so I can do a lot of downloading, for viewing documents, etc. I also need a good graphics card for the occasional gaming, movies, etc. Problem is finding a budget laptop with a good graphics card is hard. GMA 950 is crap, and is found on most laptops. Lenovo is crazily expensive. I went on their website, and their entry machine was 137000. My brother has a L100 and it usually gets stuck, and programs take quite sometime to load, and he doesn't game or download anything. Did you buy it from the agents? Whats the graphics card like?
  23. Thanks man. I'm a little worried about acer though. I'm leaving the country and I need a dependable really good all rounder. Can't be running to get it repaired everyday. Dell's seem really cool but i'm not too sure of their prices. Im guessing they'll be really expensive. Toshiba's satellite L100 seems nice but kinda slow. I also need to buy one from an agent so i can use the warranty abroad. Is this a 1.83Ghz with 512mb ram? If so, its pretty worth it.
  24. Well technically its not advertising. I'm not asking anyone to sell me their laptop neither am I asking anyone where i can buy a laptop for that price, but only what I can buy within my budget. If anyone could enlighten me on the dependability of acer or asus i would appreciate it.
