Well, you have to take into account the fact that tax and other charges account for a large portion of the cost of fuel here... In a way, I'm actually happy. I hope this means there are less people on the road. Sadly I know it won't work out this way. I'm looking forward to some 'proper' increases.. i.e. hitting 200 - 250 within the next few months. Again, don't think it will reduce traffic on the roads but it will make things a bit more interesting, thats for sure..

Who Is Using Highspeed Internet In Sri Lanka?
Saturn replied to Lalithster's topic in PC and other Console Games
AFAIK dialog do have a bandwidth limit (its mentioned on their site) SLT may or may not have a limit. Some have said in this thread that they do, others claim their connections are unlimited. Personally I've never encountered any limit but then again I'm not a heavy P2P user. I think a wimax connection is a good idea for casual use, but if one is into downloading movies, etc then the wired (slt) connection seems the way to go. I would say it depends entirely on the user profile. One other factor is cost (dialog wimax is more expensive) BTW, I must point out (to lalithster) that dialog, mobitel and others do offer GPRS, edge, and 3G, which may be useful for casual internet use.. -
A good question. I wish I knew. One point I'd like to make (to the original poster) is that this vehicle uses a very small engine - in my personal opinion, small engine cars tend to experience a lot of stress compared to vehicles with larger engines, and particularly when you consider the age (the vehicle would be over 10 years old) one has to think carefully before buying such a car. Also, again, spares are hard to find - some things (e.g. timing kit) can be got, but engine parts, for example, are rather hard to find Personally I'd recommend the original poster get any vehicle he is trying to buy, inspected, before he purchases it I did own one of these cars, and it was not a pleasant experience at all. True, in my case, the vehicle I purchased was old and in somewhat poor state so I can't really blame the manufacturer.

Hi, Hope you don't mind me being rather late to join the discussion but I thought id offer my 2 cents. Out of the two I think I can simplify things by recommending you get SLT Currently I'm using an SLT ADSL line and its mostly ok. OK, the speeds are nothing like you get in USA but I would rank it as 'useable'. If you are into torrents and downloading movies you may not be too OK with it but otherwise, I'd say its bearable for simple surfing and email, occasional youtube. (though youtube and online video are choppy). Cost wise, well you need a modem/router, you could go for a wifi router, which would set you back about $100 or so here. If you are coming from USA I suggest pick up a nice linksys router (check compatibility for dsl though), alternatively I'm sure you can get one here also Connection reliability well let me put it this way - the connection is quite reliable (in my personal experience). As long as the wire doesnt break you should be OK. If your phone wire is physically broken for some reason then you might have problems getting it fixed but otherwise you should be OK. Dialog.. well I have not personally tried it but from what I understand it is more expensive than SLT and also has a bandwidth cap (SLT does in theory but I've never reached there) You could get both as they aren't too expensive. A bonus feature of the Dialog connection is (AFAIK) you can use it outside your house (within coverage area I think) Hope my comments were useful, and if you have further questions please ask. thanks! ps: it would seem your comments to some of the members here were misunderstood? -
Mostly, want to know if anyone has a rough idea on pricing for paint job at some of the major places..?
-
Hi Guys Anyone have tips on where I can get an affordable paint job (with a small bit of body work) car looking rather shabby after a few years in SL, usual nicks, dents, scrapes, etc Basically would love to have someone who can come home, alternately some nice trustable garage where I can keep the vehicle and trust them to paint it. I asked PALA a while back they suggested 40K (this was pre budget/dollar/rice crisis) seemed a bit steep then for a mild paint job Any thoughts and suggestions appreciated and thanks in advance edit: found a few threads on painting.. anyone know current pricing and a somewhat affordable place? hopefully under 40k? my vehicle would probably need a small bit of bodywork for minor dents and dings here and there also...

If you just need a light to set the timing on your car, both Mag City and Pala have them as for the other device, no idea

As my friend above states, the charade has it's pro's Well fuel wise the diesel non turbo may do mroe than 10km/l (depending on engine condition) 0 to 60 in 60 for non turbo diesel, turbo diesel and petrol versions faster id suggest if you are going for one consider either the turbo diesel or petrol version also must point out that parts are rare 'in the wild' hopefully the agents may be helpful good luck and let us know how it goes spare parts - there are a couple of places.. (forgotten the names) but theres a place in GIG building..

unfortunantly we don't have abreakdown lane or anything as such in this country, and the sidewalks are full of pedestrians well good to hear that things worked out and all was well!! sorry I sounded rather impolite

Woudn't it have been safer to just pull over and call a breakdown vehicle? Driving without brakes makes you a hazard - you could have caused an accident, or been unable to avoid one - at very worst, you would have presented an obstacle to other motorists? No offense to you Ripper, but I guess this proves my point about people here willing to drive as long as the car is moving I'm just shocked, but in retrospect I realize that this is the way it's done here.

New 'Ring record: BMW M3 CSL laps in 7:22.8 seconds The era of 'Ring attacks has begun. Next atop the heap of Nord-lappers is a lightweight, supercharged BMW M3 CSL that took a full five seconds off the Pagani Zonda F's best run. The car has, of course, been modified, but the changes aren't outrageous -- you might see more extreme mods at your local M3 gathering. The incredible thing is that the car puts out 532.7 rear-wheel horsepower and weighs 3,139 pounds with thirty liters of fuel. That means it has 70 fewer HP and weighs 400 pounds more than the Pagani Zonda F it dethroned. The car can't be faster down the straights, so this must be all in the corners. We wouldn't mind seeing videos of the two laps side-by-side to find out where the BMW leaves its Italian competition behind. And get this: you can win this car in an auction. The Loaded.se team is putting the car up via bid2aid.com, and to win you have to place the lowest unique bid. That means that whatever you bid needs to be the only bid of that amount. Crazy concept for an auction, so good luck with your bid of $.02. Check out the video after the jump and see what you think. http://www.autoblog.com/2007/11/20/new-rin...7-22-8-seconds/

Incredible Footage From Inside A Working Engine!
Saturn replied to Saturn's topic in General Automotive
High speed cameras tend to record for a short duration. -
Piston, valves and spark plug all clearly show that simple action to make engines run. High pressure and miniature temperature resistant 1000fps camera was used. http://www.liveleak.com/view?i=73e_1192001762 @admin: can you enable video embedding pls?

Strange, they said the same to my dad. Though.. maybe this applies to toyota vehicles only

Craigslist Find of the Decade: 940,000 mile '95 Honda Civic There's high mileage, and then there's this. A 1995 Honda Civic is for sale in Atlanta with, count 'em, 939,899 miles. That's 200-plus miles a day. Every day. Including Sundays. For 12 years. It even has a CARFAX report from when the car had 907,000 miles on it. According to the seller, the car runs like new, with no leaks, no noises, no oil burning, and not even a scratch on the body. In fact, the only blemish listed is that one of the dashboard lights doesn't work, and that's only sometimes. The car is on its ninth timing belt, ninth water pump, and fourth clutch. But the engine and transmission are original, as are the floor mats. The car even comes with records. The most incredible thing isn't the mileage, though. It's how the owner put the miles on the car: driving on business trips from Atlanta ... to Seattle ... and San Francisco. We want to know what kind of business -- or what kind of boss -- makes a guy drive across the country and back, and then some, every single month for 12 straight years. To paraphrase The Proclaimers, if you buy this car then you can drive a million miles and you can drive a million more ... http://www.autoblog.com/2007/10/01/craigsl...95-honda-civic/ Another story, on a million mile Saab: http://www.jsonline.com/story/index.aspx?id=538098

It's like this: even if you do buy a car, any car in the under 3m range, you will proably have to do anything from 50 - 100k in repairs. That's just how it is with used cars (of course I know people who disagree with this theory) In my humble opinion, if your car is functioning OK, might as well just do the little repairs and keep it. After all you know this car, and what problems it has, which is better than getting a used "unknown" car.

I'm not sure what a T/T is? Well there are 3 schools of thought that go on this: 1. The toyota theory which is usually "just drive the damm thing" at least that's what toyota told my dad. 2. The traditional theory which is don't rev above 2000 - 3000 rpm 3. A new more interesting theory which I read a while back at a web site which was run by an automotive engineer. This guy said that basically for the first 25miles you should rev the engine properly so the piston rings and everything properly adjust themselves. Guy had done demonstrations with brand new engines, to prove his theory and the summary was that if you DON'T rev up the engine properly for the first few miles it leads to long term damage. Very interesting stuff and he had tons of scientific data, graphs, disassembled engines etc to prove his point. Wonder what other autolanka folk have to say on this..

well there's this belief that they tend to be cheap, drive like mainacs.. and oh, and have huge ego's .. of course that's all purely an absurd generalization, (and it only applies to Sunny drivers anyway)

He said Nissan Users, not Nissan Cars There's nothing inherently wrong with Nissan's,.. it's the people who use them... As the saying goes, problem between keyboard and chair.. or steering wheel and chair in this case. Though... it's not just Nissan's. Local chaps are capable of killing toyota's even (though it takes a bit more work).

No offense to the original poster of this, but this is what I don't get about people here: If the car is moving, no matter how many warning lights and buzzers are going off, its full steam ahead. When your car displays a warning light... shouldn't you stop an explore? Well.. someone here suggested Pala, I agree, they are very good at electrical stuff (though they seem to have jumped the shark lately). They have a mobile service, you can call them and ask them to come over

AFAIK The beat is an EXTREMELY small "Kei" car, with the same engine as in the honda 'buddy' van (600 cc). It's a very very small car, so not too safe (wouldn't want to be in one of those in a crash) ..the del sol is a variant of the civic, popular in US among kids... bit of a fun car... though it's quite rare in Sri Lanka. I've only seen one here, the green one with the upside down accura badge at the exhibition. AFAIK the del sol is no longer made... As someone has pointed out... the CRX may be a better buy.. I've seen older CRX's on our road.. they go quite fast

How about an Impala SS If you are in Sri Lanka.. not sure what chevy cars are available. maybe that thing which looks like the WagonR?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=snaJHZEervc specially for everyone who thinks diesel vehicles are slow. Goodwin's feats of engineering have become gradually more visible over the past year. Last summer, Imperium Renewables contacted MTV's show Pimp My Ride about creating an Earth Day special in which Goodwin would convert a muscle car to run on biodiesel. The show chose a '65 Chevy Impala, and when the conversion was done, he'd doubled its mileage to 25 mpg and increased its pull from 250 to 800 horsepower. http://www.fastcompany.com/magazine/120/mo...ad-messiah.html @admins: would it be possible to enable youtube embedding?

What Is The Best Brand New Car (around 1.3 Million)?
Saturn replied to Yasith's topic in General Automotive
All three of those cars are 'small cars'. not very safe. (Especially the QQ. Don't even consider it) Id suggest considering a used car. Should be able to get a 300- or better japanese car for that price.
