  1. sorry. aint feeding trolls. period.
  2. how did this escape the inspection process?
  3. What's with the gender confusion dude? Are u high or something?
  4. Hang on a minute, wats the word that begins with an I and ends with a T, that needs to be censored? PS. Sorry if I sound like I'm trolling here, but zambo does sound like a bloody nursery school kid who thinks IDIOT is profanity!
  5. If you listen to Sylvi's crap, you will end up buying a chinese van that will need an engine overhaul after 3 months or an indian van that's a moving coffin. But hey, it is BRAND NEW anyway Besides, what's the guarantee that the brand new vehicle that you buy, is not damaged in transit and repaired? Check out this thread: If I were you, I wouldn't be worried about things like dent repairs, odo rollbacks etc. I will try to inspect the integrity of the chassis, verify the YoM mentioned by the seller with the model/year data available on the net and with the chassis numbers, I will look for signs of frontal and rear impact and things like that. I fully agree with your own statement "At least 75% of the vehicles you see on the road are reconditioned.(a guess) It can't be too bad right?" WHat you have here is an unfounded paranoia. Only thing you should worry about, is taking Sylvi's advice.
  6. Not really... no. There are times when 'trustworthy' sellers make big blunders. Or even 'trustworthy' manufacturers (by Indian standards) like Tata, end up creating cars that catch fire for no reason. The perception of trust doesn't give you as much peace of mind, as proper research and using your brain might give you. No you don't have to check every part of a vehicle before you buy. A smart car buyer would know what to check and what to ignore. For example, a smart car buyer would totally ignore the odometer reading, as it doesn't make any kind of sense. Same goes with the so-called JAAI certificates and the related nonsense. Anybody can print a piece of paper and if you decide to buy a car based on some notes on a piece of paper, then all I can say is you deserve a lemon. There's enough and more information in AL forum on how to inspect a car before you buy. Please go through them if you have the time and patience. If not, get a friend who really knows cars, to take a good look at the one that you are planning to buy. Remember that when you buy a used (in Sri Lanka or elsewhere) car, you are getting a USED car not a brand new one.
  7. Don't judge the car you buy, based on the 'reputation' of the guy who sells it. Get the damn thing thoroughly inspected before you make a purchasing decision. That's the only way to go.
  8. Avoid the R2 unless u are a sucker for punishment. And no, R2 does not have 'better' build quality. I've been in one and it looks very much like a cheap bubble gum car. On top of it, it comes with a CVT gearbox which no one in Sri Lanka probably knows how to maintain or repair if necessary.
  9. Weren't you looking to buy a prado TZ last year, then a converted Montero, then a Montero Sport early this year? How many cars are u planning to buy?
  10. I sold it a few weeks back but just didn't update the signature. I spent quite a lot of cash on the Focus so needed a bit of financial reconciliation for the time being. If you look at the cars I've own(ed) and if u read my posts, you would notice that I don't give a rat's a$$ about fuel economy (and FYI dont get any free fuel from my employer or a fuel allowance). Edit: Just FYI the Cruze did about 11 to the litre on stop-go traffic.
  11. Be more specific about what you need to know. I personally think Rios are good cars, although underrated in Sri Lanka. The key is to find one which was imported brand new to Sri Lanka. You might touch 14 on long runs depending on how much you are able to cruise. In stop-go traffic, you are looking at around 9 to the litre.
  12. City isn't a bad car but there are much better options available for that price. Some options I can suggest for you are Mazda Familia BJ5P, Lancer CS1 Pre-facelift, Suzuki Swift Jeep model etc. Don't be fooled by the number game. Lancers and Familias that carry G- and H- plates may be in better condition than a KA- City.
  13. Just a bit of an update on the scenario of the locally assembled vehicles... There was a dispute regarding who will pay the tax of the locally assembled vehicles, which is more or less settled now. RMV insists that a tax component (ranging between 200-500k per vehicle) must be paid before registration. While some owners are willing to pay that amount, some are insisting that vehicles lanka, the company which assembles these vehicles must pay the taxes. Those who are willing to pay the taxes are the ones who are driving the old cars with KR-series plates. On the other hand, those who are not willing to pay the taxes are still running with garage plates (G11- series). As usual, the registration book gives EMPEROR as the brand name (not Toyota, Nissan, Mazda et al) and the country of origin field states "LOCALLY ASSEMBLED WITH USED PARTS". BTW does anyone know if vehicles lanka is still doing this business?
  14. See if you can find a Brand New imported Proton Impian. You might get a 2005/6- one for that price and comes with ABS, Dual Airbags and the works and its quite a comfortable ride. I mentioned this because you didn't specify fuel economy as a concern.
  15. isuzu panther
  16. Lifan 520 indeed. 520 badges are possibly leftovers from the bimmer factory
  17. Try again
  18. Montero Sport Brand New costs 13.9 Million not 7,5 million. If you have a permit you can get one for much less (as I remember, it was around 6.5 Million) There are non-transferable permit imports that are being sold in the grey for about 7.5 - 9 Million.
  19. and u think Jeremy Clarkson's experiments are designed to help average folks make car buying decisions?
  20. Did you test drive it? Try a test drive yourself with four people in the car and make your decision. It's normal for everyone to offer their opinions when someone they know wnat to buy a car, That doesnt mean they are always right! 1.3ltr cars are generally underpowered, but having used a CS1, I can say its better than other 1.3ltr cars.
  21. skoda 130 somebody pls take my turn
  22. If you are talking about that green one (with a Morris badge), It's a genuine MkI or II Mini (never got a close look at it though). One of the very few in Sri Lanka. Anyway it's beyond any kind of possible restoration now. There's a big NOT FOR SALE notice pasted on it. I've been eyeing that car for years now but didn't want approach the owners because of the NOT FOR SALE notice written in big letters. It's a crime against humanity to let this car rot.
  23. look for them in insurance yards
