  1. Selling a permit is not a criminal offense. The seller cannot be jailed. However, if someone sells a permit and if someone else who doesn't like that person, informs the relevant department, then 1. the person who bought the vehicle under the permit may be asked to pay the full taxes of the vehicle 2. if the person fails to pay the full taxes, the vehicle may be impounded. I know of one case where the above actually happened. There is always a risk factor involved in this kind of transactions.
  2. just the headlights? did i post about a KH- series (2007) Geely which I saw, which has corroded to the extent that it's become a pile of scrap iron?
  3. 90 is not some magic number sent by an octane-god. When they say the octane rating of an engine/of fuel is 90, it's usually an average figure. 90 should be alright for an engine rated for 91. Pumping 95 would be a bit too heavy on your wallet. However, if your engine type is designed for a higher octane number, then you should pump 95. IOC Xtrapremium has an octane rating of 92 but it also has some additives.
  4. So is he the king of all makabasses in this country?

  6. Hi Guys, if anyone know a good place/person to hire a decent wedding car (Merc/Bimmer or similar) in Kandy, give me a heads up. It's got to be in Kandy. Travelling all the way from Colombo won't do.
  7. Fuel economy and high speed? What are u smoking these days buddy? May I suggest Maruti 800 'Sports Version' or Alto 'Sportz' ?
  8. Yup it's a MonteCarlo. Saw one of them rotting away at Desilva Motors. Hope it gets is glory restored.

  10. To keep the thread alive...
  11. I assume u are talking about 2005 GLS (not GLX) It's made in India Stay as far away from it as possible.
  12. Going by your own theory, if you can't post anything useful, shut the f**k up.
  13. I'm waiting to see the replies of the hybrid promoters in AL. @Binga - pls follow the advises given to you by the hybrid promoters in AL and post the results. It will help to improve everyone's knowledge.
  14. 'Spontaneous Combustion' is a nice way of saying 'bloody car caught fire'

Pericles came up with that title after i had used a rather dull title

  15. Feel sorry for your ordeal but in my opinion, it's a good time to sell an old Corolla. Prices seem to be sky high these days. Please talk to a few more places like Edirisinghe Brothers, Lal and Nihal, Autoforce etc. about the overhaul. You might get it done for a lower cost. Another alternative I can suggest is to replace the whole engine. I don't know if that would be cheaper/better. Perhaps someone who has mechanical expertise can enlighten me too.
  16. Isn't this the 997,345th time someone is asking the diff between Cruze and Swift? To answer the question you posted in your other thread (hope it will be merged with this one), there are two models according to 'market perception' in Sri Lanka - The centre antenna model (YOM 2004-5) and the side antenna model (YOM 2002-2003). Both models have identical options but has two engine codes HR51S (Side antenna) and HR52S (Center antenna). There are only minor cosmetic differences like different steering wheel. But the market perception is such that the center antenna model fetches a higher price. For 2004 model (which should be center antenna), something below 19 should be reasonable. For side antenna model, expect around 18.
  17. Cool... then I know where to look for a Gen2 your dad seems to be hooked on to Protons... btw I happened to see a used 2010 Persona for sale at the agents for an amount well below the B/N price.
  18. What your mechanic has done is a general tune-up with the car. If that doesn't work, u might be having a problem with a sensor in your vehicle that is sending the wrong amounts of air and fuel. This will cause high emissions of CO. My suggestion is to go to Toyota Lanka for a diagnostic. Solving this might also help improve your fuel efficiency, since many people claim that Corollas do much better than 8km/l.
  19. Interesting. Sometime back, I checked with the service advisor at the agents and they said that anything above 8 is a good figure for a Gen2. Any possibility of selling yours to me ? Parts are not an issue at all. There are few private importers who bring down spares. But the problem is finding mechanical expertise outside the agent. Sometime back I was trying to get a service guy there to do a bit of moonlighting. The bugger didn't agree.

    Generators

No experience with generators but generally Singer products are Chinese stuff with the Singer badge on them (except for the locally made fridges and TVs). So the supplier may change often and the product that you buy may not be the same as one that is being used by someone else at present.
  21. Gen2 is a great choice if u can afford the relatively high fuel bill. The car does about 8-9 km to the litre. If you plan to get a Gen2, get one which was imported brand new to the country. Avoid the recon Singapore imported cars like the plague. Another similar option is Proton Impian. It's also a great car with lots of options but does a bit lower than Gen2 on fuel, because its heavier. It has the same engine as Gen2. Let me know if u need any more help on Protons.
  22. Toyota has its own brand of oils and that is recommended by Toyota. Some say its rebranded Mobil oil. I can tell you two more places to avoid: 1. The 3M franchise in Suduwella Junction, Maradana (the guy was arguing with me saying that the engine is dirty and he should pour a few buckets of water on it) 2. The Service station near Roxy, Wellawatta In general, avoid any place where the staff carry spray-cans of kerosene oil. Kerosene oil on rubber boots can do all kinds of damage to the vehicle.
  23. As for your question, for the higher end of your budget, you might get an Axio (if u like that sort of car) from a recon importer. You can't get a recon Yaris (unless it comes from Singapore). However, you can get a recon Belta for your budget. Nissan Sunny/Tiida is another option for you.
  24. OT... Looks like this website has copy pasted information which was posted (by yours truly ) in Autolanka. Can we sue them? :D http://govlk.com/content/permit-vehicle-list-and-contacts
  25. NO Some owners tend to overprice the Indian Swift, saying that it's identical to the Japanese one. If you check with a valuer like De S*lva, the valuation for YOM 2005 Indian Swift would be around 1.6mill.
