The Check Engine Sign (Malfunction Indicator Lamp)
E L N I N O replied to chmzzy's topic in General Automotive
This happened to me once when I was leaving office in the evening, the check engine light came on suddenly. So I did the basic i-have-no-idea-what-i-am-doing stuff, tightening the plugs and sensors, looking all around the engine bay with a torch, but found nothing suspicious. I wanted to know whether the light came on due to a resident issue or due to a random loose connection sort of issue. So I disconnected the battery for a couple of minutes knowing that it would clear the error, and checked whether the light comes back again. I was planning to leave the car at office if it comes back but it didn't so drove it home very carefully It never came back agaiin and obviously I forgot the whole story. (later I ordered an obd scanner off ebay and found out all my fault codes have been cleared) My questions are, How stupid is to do what I did? Do we need to worry if check engine lights comes on for no reason (obviously for a reason) and it never comes back when it's cleared? If the light comes back again after clearing, how safe is it to drive it to a nearest garage?- 12 replies

If your car has a 16-pin interface (OBD2), then yes.

Damn I didn't see that DIY thread. There may be cheaper ones for sure, I just went for the smallest size so I can keep it hidden.
-
Of course it does

1. No additional cable is needed. Just plug and play. 2. Powered from the port itself. No batteries needed. This one has a toggle on/off switch so I think it is not draining the battery when it's idle. This device merely dispatches the signals via a bluetooth ineterface so it's the application which you might want to make sure that is not messing with the ECU. If it only does reading the stats, I believe you are safe.

Bought this cheap OBD scanner. Very small, can be turned off and connects via bluetooth. (And also works with the awesome Torque Android App) http://www.ebay.com/itm/111113180377?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649 https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.prowl.torque&hl=en

Yes I too think that's a sticker. Or better you can get down a full crome plated grille which fits on the standard bumper. But nothing comes close to the Fortis look IMO. It has a totally unique bumper and a shell.- 800 replies

Hey Harry you haven't checked mail. It's not a GT but It came with the dark interior and the geometric check panels (which is standard in GT). Well, owning a GT is still my dream Till then I'm ricing this to feel better- 800 replies

Well for me, shining sliver is a turn off. But I would replace it if I can get a GT or an Evo bumper. If you want the sliver accent all around the grille, the closeset you can get (for cheap) is this. But it looks too large for me.- 800 replies

Exactly what I did minus redding the badge. But I dropped the idea of riverting back and went ahead with spray painting I gues the above is plasti-dipped. I wish we had that stuff here. Also you can add a small ralliart badge in the corner. Makes it more cooler IMO.- 800 replies

I was rather talking about the alluminium finished accent panel, which I have not seen on a GLX here.- 800 replies

E L N I N O replied to Bracket's question in Car Buying Information
Yes, the meters and the mid-screen are illuminated always. You can change the mid-screen brightness by pushing the stick on the tacho. And yes that's a GLX and it's having a much better looking trim. I don't think it's offered here.- 800 replies

Kush is right. The Ex 1.5 model has the knock control system so 90 octane can be used as an emergency measure. But clearly the engine performance level is reduced in that case.- 800 replies

Bracket, another major difference between GLX and GLS is that the latter comes with xenon projectors. I don't know whether 2014 model has them as standard.- 800 replies

I have no idea why fixing that spoiler in the video was that much trouble. If the spoiler confirms to lancer's specs, you can simply drill at the points where it is marked on the metal under your bootlid. Oh btw I would vote for the deep blue mica one- 800 replies

So we get another 100cc legitimately? That's great news. But I don't know whether there are any newer cowling type models available under 450cc. Anyone has suggestions other than the beloved CBRs or FZRs?

It's time to change the order of interests on your profile mate

It's filed under induction motor types.

Abans is also selling a Chinese brand. It's the 70bar version of this: http://www.anlu.cn/product-show.asp?id=43&type=8 But their price was below 10,000 as i remember.
-
I haven't seen them in delkanda. I got a pair down for my lancer from ebay (shipped elsewhere so no tax). The famous bodykit guy at homagama also brings down stuff. But his prices were pretty much absurd when I checked.
-
Machan I may be wrong but i don't think the cap used here really accomplishes the 'fade' effect. It is a ceramic chip capacitor and not very high in capacity to begin with. But I do agree that the diode would come in handy if a bigger cap is used and the fading would then be noticeable. My guess is in this scenario the cap just bypasses any ripples that might be visible in the supply due to alternator or any other component. As I remember caps allow AC to pass through, though it blocks DC.

hi, nice work buddy. i too love building circuits. i am assuming the resister is to save the bulbs when supply goes beyond 12v, and the cap is to bypass any spikes in the supply so that the bulbs wont flicker. but, what actually the extra diode is for? to avoid any damage from incorrect polarity? i thought the bulbs itself being diodes can handle it.
