This is to all the guys in Kandy who use HSDPA broadband, since I'm always on the move I wanted a dialog postpaid package. Guys from Kandy, which ISP has got the best coverage there? Especially around Dodamwala Devanirajasinghe Mawatha and Aniwatha areas. Anybody in the know? thanks in advance!

Lol the Mother-in-law's car!?? that was below the belt!

Personally if I had 4-5 million to plonk on a car I would chose a second hand BMW or any other Euro. If you have the money why do you need an econobox?? The euros come loaded with far more goodies, plus it's a totally different driving experience, even the older ones IMHO. It just seems to have no logic. You can spend 5 million on the car but don't want to spend one or two thousand bucks extra at the petrol shed.

Deffo not the del sol, I almost had a orgasm when they announced the CR-Z but then lo and behold they said it was going to be a hybrid.... Well I don't know how the after-sales support is going to be for hybrids, especially when it's so hard to find a reliable place to deal with the electronics on our present cars and with the agents charging an arm, a leg and sometimes the odd testicle to bring down a part the size of a peanut without which your car wont even start.
-
Ya men, I wish they would make a proper successor to to the CR-X. Don't know how the CR-Z is but I wish they would go back to creating a nice little basic hotrod jap sports-coupe/hatch. I've been looking for a decent CR-X for the past 2 years, but most have been hacked and all have outrageous prices. I'm seriously thinking about the CR-Z just cos it's related to the CR-X, but the whole hybrid thing is starting to put me off!
-
If all the kmp/L fanboys are having hard-ons for hybrids why not go for the CR-Z? At least it's a little sporty and must be more fun to drive than the Prius. I even considered getting one if I ever get a permit. Wonder how it racks up against the old CR-X though.

It's a bloody vicious cycle! I have no aversion to Toyota, but like the average Joe buying a car, the resale value does factor into the choice a lot. So even if I like to try another brand I'm "forced" to buy a Toyota just because, come the day I want to sell it, I can even turn in a profit! And with so many average Joes like me buying Toyota every other average Joe wanting to buy a car will want one too! This time I really want to go for the Fit but the Missus has the Toyota-is-God mentality and the car is for her anyway. I love Mazda too, in fact one of my first cars was a very old 323 which never gave me any trouble. But the 2nd hand value is almost non-existent! Thanks for all the opinions guys, keep them coming
-
Thanks for the prompt reply, from what I checked the Fit does seem to be larger inside. The only real problem is the 2nd hand value it seems.
-
Hey everyone, I'm getting the chance to import a small subcompact on the cheap direct from Japan. It's for the Missus and family. I'm stuck between a Toyota Vitz and a Honda Fit, I did my research on the web and it seems like the Fit is a better choice, trumping the Vitz in everything except fuel economy. And of course the 2nd hand market value goes for the Vitz too. I just wanted to some opinions from owners of these cars regarding their use in Sri Lanka. BTW I'm in Kandy so we have quite a few hills and the Vitz is supposed to be underpowered. I really prefer the Fit but I've never seen one let alone driven one. Any thoughts from Vitz and Fit owners would be mightily appreciated. Oh and if you think that any other subcompact, in the range of the Fit or Vitz, is better pls tell me.

Does anyone know where to get an auto gearbox for the sprinter(ce110)? I checked panchikawatta but no luck....
-
I have no idea actually, it wasn't our regular place, someone told my dad to go there when I wasn't around. It's not some big joint from what I heard.

Thanks for the advice, well I'm not running the car at all since I was getting ready to change the tranny. Didn't change the ATF just took it out of the driveway this morning and lo and behold it was working A-OK. I guess I'll change the ATF again to the recommended one. I just hope I won't mess up something else while I'm at it. Bloody makabasas indeed, unfortunately I wasn't there, my dad gets sweet-talked into deals like this all the time! Thanks again!
-
My dad recently changed the ATF on our ce110 on the insistence of the mechanic and apparently he used the wrong kind of ATF. It worked ok for a day or two until the car stopped pulling on D(rive), the engine just revs up and the car crawls forward. Going up an incline was an impossibility. Took it to another mechanic, who said the tranny was gone, and we'd have to plonk in a new one costing around 50K. Just today when we took the car out again, presto! It was pulling like normal again! Has this sort of thing ever happened to anyone else here? I mean I don't want to waste 50K.... Could there be something else wrong here? I live in Kandy so coming down to Colombo to get it checked out by a pro would be a little tough. I mean if the tranny is really gone so be it, but it started working like brand new again! Anyone with similar experiences?

Just google around a bit, I found a torrent here but not sure what version you need. Here are a few more links which might be useful BimmerNav BMW Nav Sys FAQ Bimmerfest WIKI The download links are in the following posts, but again I don't own a BMW so I really don't know what version u would need: Navigation Sys Operating Systems I guess you would have to download and burn onto a CD-R or DVD-R. I hope you won't mess up ur car! Everything is at ur own risk!

Oh god don't let the resident AL troll out from under his little bridge, this topic is very useful/interesting as it is. You know I've been looking for a decent 2nd hand sports hatch for sooo long, but the ridiculous prices have been putting me off. This tax cut is just what we need. Most folks don't want or need a drastic cut but some of the asking prices are absurd! Everyone I know who has been looking for a car in the 2nd hand market has put off buying till prices drop. Those who are in a hurry are planning on a quick trip to japan.
-
I guess if you've been living in a cardboard box all this time you might want to buy a car at the prices seen on some of those ads. The big question is when will the 2nd hand market respond?
-
Excellent!! Let's see how the auto market responds...

The same old story about the brokers, what was scary to hear was that they actually got threatening?? We too had this problem when my FIL wanted to sell his auto, they were giving ridiculously low offers and asking buyers 5 to 6 lakhs above our quoted price and going to great lengths to depreciate the value of the car to us. Luckily we found out. There really isn't a need for this parasitic occupation, if the general public just has the patience and the minimum resourcefulness required to use the classifieds, these days there are so many in the printed press, not to count the sites like Autolanka.com. Sure it's time consuming, but then again you are less likely to be scammed. -
Sorry if I'm hijacking the thread but have you ever seen a capri with the Xpack kit in Sri Lanka? Has anybody tried to fit one on here? I always dreamed of getting a Capri done up. Someday hopefully! Classic British muscle! Good luck with your project!

Does anyone own a Space Gear Van circa 1994, 2470cc diesel engine? I would really like to know the fuel economy (kmpl) and the overall running costs (spare parts/availability etc.) when compared to other vans of it's class. I would like to buy one though I have never driven one, so any advice on this matter will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Hey I hope in the future the admins nip this sort of spamming in the bud, I was wondering who the hell wants to modify a maruti?? I guess they thought the guys on this forum are a bunch of brain-dead ricers, even a ricer (no offense!) would think twice about buying a maruti for modding. There may be Maruti lovers out there, but personally I would recommend a jap or euro car anyday over a maruti, I've been in one, tried to drive one, with great difficulty (I'm 6ft), it just doesn't match up to a jap car in the same price range, if it was (a lot) cheaper I would recommend it as a budget second car. And it goes to show that if marketing is using spam to promote their vehicles they better learn that in the end most people do use their heads, & especially on this forum, will count on the car's reputation. So my advice to our dear spammers: market a better car.

Is it just me or are all the CRXs I find overpriced?? Check this one out - CRX ad

Yikes it's just a Cynos?? I thought it had a Starlet GT turbo engine in it. Well I'll have to think abt the CRX....
