Dear friends, I got a Nissan N16. one of the mirrors on it doesn't retract. I just hear the motor spinning. Before I show it to anyone, I'd like to know what could be wrong and what should I do to rectify it. I can open and close the mirror with little resistance. It feels like the cog wheel or whatever that moves it is still inside and hasn't been removed. may be it is broken. Your advice please!

If I may ask, whats this vehicle with the duplicate book? There are ways of getting rid of the "duplicate" too.

I was following your thread. I partially converted my van with noah seats, doors, grill, bumper and fogs etc. couldn't do a full conversion since mine is 5 door. I really dont see a need for full interior upgrade as it looks better but will not really give you a big profit if reselling unless you got the van at a bargain. Btw, new rules to my knowledge is that the vehicle needs to be registered atleast three years before you can swap engine. What I would suggest is going for a GL (only 5 door) with ABS and do the exterior mods by replacing doors, bumpers an fix glass. looks nice. you also need to fix the noah seat set. very comfortable they are. You can also go for the Noah dashboard. If going for a full conversion kit, you'll replace doors, dash, seats, carpets, hood, glasses, headlamps(if not already crystal), grill, bumpers and if you want to go further, even components of the suspension. This can only be done on a 4 door van. There are complete kits for sale. when buying, always check if all clips and beadings etc are available. If swapping engine with Diesel, go for 3C or 3C Turbo. 3C intercooler turbo gives probs I hear. Thats the one with the bonnet scoop. If you already haven't found a good place for these, let me know. I should be able to hook you up.

It does let out some smoke but I didn't think it was that bad. And the turbo does come on. just that it isn't consistent. and most of the time when it comes on, it feels like the engine is missing. but it isn't the engine. it is the turbo dropping and switching on again. couldn't it be something else? like something related to when the turbo comes on or even some improper wiring etc? I'm trying to be as optimistic as possible coz I don't wanna have to do an engine repair!! Editted: ok.. so who can you guys recommend for turbo related issues?

the turbo on our 2.5L LJ79 seems to be malfunctioning. It never switches on at a constant RPM. And sometimes it doesn't switch on at all. even though I rev up quite a lot. The orange check light keeps coming up too. has anyone of you guys faced a similar problem? what could be wrong?

This is not going to be easy to fix as there is a risk it's going to get worse with time... How old is she? Somewhere around 1993 I guess... Since it's just a 1.3L, you cant expect fabulous pulling. But you can expect good fuel figures. Much better than 8-9kmpl. But that too depends on how you drive her. I assume the engine is in good condition and not burning oil or throwing out bluish fumes. How are your plugs? Did you check them? Wasted plugs could be a reason for this. I'm sure the other doctors would love to share their twopence on this matter... the glass shattering when the vehicle was moving is understandable but I couldnt understand how it shattered after the vehicle was parked. I forgot to ask my relative if he found the reason behind this. Must ask him next time I see him.. Coz it's not something that happens everyday ne!

A weird thing happened to a relative's van a few months ago. The front right shutter was malfunctioning so the van was sent for repair. when the van came back home and parked, not 5 minutes passed but we hear a loud noise of shattering glass. The shutter that had been repaired had just exploded. for no real reason. no one threw a rock at it or anything. it just happened. Even the driver was freaked out. We suspected a heat build-up could have caused this. But then, how hot should it get for glass to burst like that!

A body permit is only for the body. Legally, the chassis has to be original. But as said above, a lot of importers bring down both the chassis and the body and since the body is already legal, they weld the chassis number bar of the old chassis onto the new chassis. Technically, this is not legal but everyone does it and the authorities don't seem to be chasing behind this also.
