  1. works fine for me...
  2. a tea carton is 5 cubic feet? how much would that cost? I tried to find rates on royalmail.com and it only shows options on Parcelforce which are quite expensive I once contacted a shipping company and they said the minimum charge was for 1 cubic meter (98 pounds to Colombo; which compares quite well with Parcelforce economy @ 100 pounds for just 8kg).
  3. How do you accidentally go from D to P? I mean, there's N and R in between right (and a safety feature on the N to R shift; button or bent path) , or is this some different layout? btw the "resistance" is a pin, called a parking pawl.
  4. except at this price point (1.6m was mentioned, dunno if that's the budget or the asking price of the mondeo), the only affordable Corolla would be a 110
  5. but the mondeo should be cheaper

    Increase Wheel Size

please use the search function first - that little box at the top right, try searching for "upsizing" and "tyre size" and "tyre wheel arch". (make sure the search space is "Forums" (not "This Topic" or "This Forum"). pros and cons have been discussed quite extensively.) generally speaking though, the manufacturer recommended that size for a reason, and unless you are changing your rim size (then you of course need different tyre specs) you should stay with the spec size.
  8. if you have to pay shipping from UK to Sri Lanka it's going to become a very expensive hobby. not only for the postage, but also the duty/bribes at customs and the brain damage of someone going there, queuing up, etc - at least a couple of hours provided you get there early in the morning! I've only once bought an item by post to Sri Lanka (a PS pump) and that was cos the seller was in Israel; anything from UK has always been hand carried...
  9. that's "expensive to repair", not "expensive to maintain"! even when I was looking at 406s last year the advice was to avoid the auto ("failures are common and then it has to be replaced"). the failure could be improper maintenance (makabass using regular ATF fluid instead of the special fluid: 9736.22), but most common issue was the pressure regulation solenoids. read more here. replacing the solenoids itself is not so hard (see this, he doesn't replace but he does switch them around) note that the new valves need a software update, and not everyone is equipped to do that (carmart should be able to do it; don't know about the others; even if they had a lexia they would still need the update file and that's usually provided through internet login which would not be available on lexia clones)
  10. he took it on a test drive and drove @ 110 km/h ?
  11. well, there is the timeouts that occur (maybe when there is more users on the forum) - perhaps features that are not used (gallery, calendar, chat, maybe facebook login) can be turned off to reduce the load? and a feature request; afaik IPBoard supports a "Ignore User" option - could that be enabled?
  12. how so? it (at least the AL4 on the D9, not sure about D8) needs a special ATF fluid, but it's not as if other tranny's don't need the ATF looked into. there was also a problem with some solenoids failing (causing the car to go into "limp home" mode, and it was an expensive job if you have to replace the box but from searching around on the web it seems that it's sufficient to replace the solenoids with a superseded part
  13. nope; but there's loads of threads debating the fuel economies of toyotas, nissans, mazdas, hondas, etc. search function currently doesn't work but if you browse around there's threads like "what can I buy for XX" and definitely they discuss fuel economy. and you can also use google to search on autolanka, just use site:autolanka.com as a search term
  14. if fuel economy is your main criteria, I don't think you should go for a 406; it can probably match the numbers you've got on the fb14, but unlikely to be much of an improvement on it.
  15. ever since the recent outage, the search function has not been working (reports a driver error)... this also means that the "view new content" feature doesn't work and that really sucks... hope the powers that be are working on a fix
  16. when I first read his last comment, I thought it was because CPC would continue to sell the crap petrol (perhaps blended with the good stuff) rather than destroy the stuff, which would be a really criminal thing to do.. at least other countries had more responsibility in dealing with the issue. however, do agree with you that it's no point complaining about where you were born/live; either fix the system, learn to live with it, or quit
  17. wonder what forum moderators in 2083 or thereabouts will be saying... (the number 2083 is significant; it's now 78 years since Hitler came to power ) you mean, most of the people in Germany voted for Sylvi? didn't know he was that popular. so then you must be one of those holocaust-deniers, right?
  18. prices will vary depending on the engine (1.8l or 2.0l for petrol, and there's a rare 2.0l HPI version, plus diesel options), trim levels (lower trims like the GLX only have power shutters on the front, moving all the way upto the Executive with the bells and whistles), and how well it's been maintained - certainly worth (as with any euro) paying a premium for a non-abused specimen haven't been checking prices recently but 1.8 to 1.9 for an executive 2.0l in good condition should be fine. Harshan should be able to answer this much better as he was 406-hunting for a few months BTW there's two 406 models, the older d8 and the facelifted d9, I doubt if the d8 fetches anywhere near this kind of money (facelift also included engine change and some other non-cosmetic improvements) and this is the point where I want to if you are still in a position where you're trying to decide whether to buy a 406 or a fb14, you are probably going to be better off with the jap econobox. you might as well be asking if you should eat dragonfruit or apples. please, find a seller who will give you a test drive in a 406 (preferably an executive), drive it around, ask him to demonstrate the options, and make your own judgement first. if the experience to you is just like a fb14, it's no point us telling you any different. certainly there are factors that are not apparent from a test drive (such as price/availability of parts and mechanics) but it's no point talking about that unless you at least like the car.
  19. based on my experience, it seems a bit on the high side; when I was shopping around about 9 months ago most euro cars I saw of 2000 to 2002 vintage were max. 100k. (it would appear that people who needed to drive more often went for jap cars!) there was one with about 140k because the guy drove avissawella-colombo daily or sth like that. not all people who bring down parts are the same; some guys will give you price and availability over the phone if you give the part number, other buggers will ask you to remove the part and bring it (which adds to the hassle). also, is there some mech who has the diagnostic tool for the car? if not, you will drive yourself nuts. if you want an Euro, and cant' afford a beemer, go for a 406; there's (relatively) plenty of cars in the market, you have choice of trim levels and engines, several people who bring down parts (sometimes at prices competitive to those from dealers in the UK, sometimes 50% more expensive, and even +100% if getting stuff hand-carried from singapore), several people who can handle the repairs (including having diagnostics).
  20. I was going near the shed (Ceypetco @ Welikada) where I pumped on Sunday and stopped to ask them if they had had any problems with their fuel and they said "no". also all of their pumps seems to be working fine. I asked them how often they get new supplies and they said every day. if they were not trying to cover up (which would probably be a dangerous game; I didn't even tell them I had pumped on sunday when I was asking) then it would seem that somehow some sheds did not get affected by the bad shit...
  21. unless you want to exit this life in a blaze of glory in a way it's probably good that the pumps are getting clogged, because that means it's no longer getting pumped in cars! i've also heard a lot of people saying 95 is OK; but whether that is based on any solid evidence or not I don't know (one of the guys in the group was saying "it's anyway better to pump 95 for the car"). Maybe Supra's experience just means that IOC process for making 95 is different from others (e.g. they have got the 90 after it was contaminated)?
  22. at least part of IOC supply is refined fuel imported from India; as opposed to stuff refined locally well, could have depended on where in the process the shit happened (e.g. some contamination in storage tanks for a particular octane); but anyway from Supra's comment it would appear that the problem was also there on 95. btw what is happening to the fuel pumps? is it getting clogged by impurities? is it conking out due to lack of lubrication (petrol lubricates the pump)? are the insides melting?

    Prius Hybrid

that's gonna be a bit difficult now... genuine expert seems to have gone back to USA or something...
  24. any chance that ceypetco/ioc can be made to pay for these repairs? are class action law suits possible in Sri Lanka? btw was this problem only for 90 octane or has there been issues also with 95? I pumped some 95 @ ceypetco (welikada) on saturday - so far no issues with fuel supply (fingers crossed)
