  1. Go for the Civic, it's quite a good car, and better looking than the torrents of Axio's, Allions, Vitz, Ist etc on the roads these days. Also as someone said, Impreza is a good choice. Tax depends on the capacity ofcourse. Example - 1.6L Civic normal tax is 159% approx. Therefore under permit 87.5% to be paid.
  2. It was mentioned somewhere in the forum that tax reduction is only for full hybrids, but if that is so, the Civic Hybrid will be the same price as the normal gasoline one, as the auction prices are higher though the engine capacity is smaller. As I said, this is assuming them to be treated similarly. For options, have to ring up the agents and ask, as they would provide all those tables, but it's common sense to use Hybrid basic to compare as the frame codes are different and that's how usual custom work happens. You found the tax tables from customs.gov.lk? It'd give more accurate info as they usually copy and upload docs they have and use. The HS code for 1.0-1.5L hybrids is 8703.22.51 right? Yes, 39.3% with taxes on taxes+CIF to be exact. Didn't check thoroughly earlier, sorry for the error. And you're welcome
  3. Faster than you? I mean the ladies' driving And what do you reckon would win, if you were driving the Z against the Z4 in a drag?
  4. True, their network is congested around Colombo. But atleast you get more than a max of 235kbps possible if you're in UMTS at 384kbps or HSPA at 3.6Mbps
  5. Are you buying or selling?
  6. Set it to UMTS or 3G only in network settings, won't go to EDGE then
  7. That's weird cuz I get very good download speeds with that, more than 100KB/s even during daytime, and around 180+ during night It's connected full time and line hasn't dropped for 3 days now. And Mobitel on the other hand is very slow in room but fast in the front of the house.
  8. Well you just got to give a few calls and get the proper tables, get a calc and punch away the numbers. I'll try giving some approx values, hoping there need not be so many new threads asking about tax... Not sure about the full hybrid only getting tax cuts, but as Civic hybrid seems to have gone down in price and also the custom tables say 'hybrid electric vehicles', taking both Prius and Civic in same category here. CIF - someone call T*y*t* L*nk* and St*ff*rd and post here, can't remember after I asked last time. Correct any figures if I'm wrong as I hate stats, tables, tax calculations, basically commerce stuff But hopefully this would provide some info to people who ask, and will update when someone provides other info EDIT - Corrected total tax
  9. Cuz of the new depreciation table, took it as less than 6 months old as he wanted a 2010 vehicle with less than 10k, and also the new models are 1.8L engines which mean they get a little bit more tax. Could be in the range of 3.8M I think Yup, the Civic is lower at auctions as initial price is less, in addition with the smaller engine meaning lower tax in SL too.
  10. Haven't heard of any new cars with the 3 stage variable cam timing system, do any exist? Even the new Honda Civic with the R engine has normal VTEC inverted, afaik, leading to higher petrol consumption in SL. So conclusion is - the OP should find a JDM EK3 Vi with the 3 Stage D15B engine if he wants a Civic with good F/C, right?
  11. Wired lines - yes SLT Wireless - quality and speed is offered by Mobitel at a high price, Airtel is giving comparable features at a much lower price. Yet shared network in the latter slows it down a lot during busy times. Dialog is nowhere, though many people are biased towards that. I've no experience with Lanka Bell but people say it's good.
  12. Guys, a bit confused, MkX, you're referring to the Econo light in the cluster and Watchman, you're referring to the Econ button on the A/C right? That's what I got from your posts Do they have any connection EK3 owners? Like the Econo mode will not turn on if you keep the A/C running on a high setting?
  13. Approx. 2.5M car + 1M tax + 0.5M for rest and varying yen = ~4M Rs. May be less, depending on car, CIF etc.
  14. Do a search on the net, there are lots of auction sites. It depends on the trim, whether L, S, G etc., but between $21k - $25k is possible from Japan. And it goes upto even $40k, and I'm speaking of purchasing price.
  15. As you can see in the pic the OP attached and from what he said, he's not using an antenna with a cable, just the built in one like in a pocket/home radio
  16. Well you could do all that at W*ll*ys in Eriyagama and they're authorized by St*ff*rd, reasonable cost IMO. MkX and evergreen etc. should be able to give more info, but generally, yes it is possible to maintain a Honda in Kandy without too much of a hassle.
  17. Okay... First check whether it's radio signal interference or power supply jitter creating the noise. Most probably it's the former, which you might be able to avoid if you fix the external antenna from your old radio to it.
  18. No prob Usually they come on big touring bikes afaik, no time to listen to that on other bikes, and exhaust is better on a sports touring
  19. Hey guys, I need some help on tuning a C90 properly, any recommendations for people who are good for that in Kandy? Searched the forum but nothing on C90 The last two guys pretty much messed up the whole thing, and this is a 1978 model. Usually kept in the garage and rarely taken out. Very difficult to accelerate even after it heats up as it just sputters and dies, a problem if stuck in traffic or stopped at a yellow crossing. Think a problem with the jets, the last guy must have changed it to 'improve economy' Don't want that really, as it rarely runs, just a good running engine would do. At the Eco test, had to half way close the carb to pass it. Also I've heard that as the engines were designed for low quality fuel, it might help to advance the ignition timing? Is there any way to do that here without going for a CDI conversion or welding stuff onto the flywheel? This has a contact breaker point system. Thanks!
  20. Seems they've copied and pasted, otherwise they should be in separate sections for home and business
  21. I'm sure you can fix it up properly dude, he doesn't seem to know much about radios even, so was wondering... Yea they do exist, seen some vids of Harleys etc, I said not seen in SL
  22. Ok see if this works, will try keeping it simple 1. Remove car radio from car 2. Take it inside house 3. Get an AC/DC 12V adapter (like you fix to an electronic keyboard) 4. Fix to power input and turn on radio 5. Check if there is that 'noise' you got So now, if you still get 'noise', something wrong with the cheap radio you got. If you don't, try fixing to another car and see. How did you manage to power it up anyway?
  23. If so by any chance, what a way to promote it, by saying it doesn't work In case the OP has actually bought one and doesn't know much about car radios, @wbruwan - That isn't a car radio just like jdnet told you, even though the specifications you posted may tell you it suits cars, motorcycles and boats. I've never seen radios on bikes in SL and if it's got static, engine noise, interference etc. from the speakers, maybe when the you drive fast the road noise will be loud enough to make you not notice that Boats, yeah sure... Don't fall for Chinese marketing ploys and cheap goods..
  24. There are two different packages right, as Home Plus and Home Unlimited? If so, what slt.lk and sltnet.lk shows would be different right, as the latter doesn't show for the Plus package? Correct me if I'm wrong please. We were thinking of getting an ADSL conn too for the house as Airtel is personal use only, but no point if new conns are all limited
  25. Thanks and do PM me if you come to see any M/Ts (non Type R, latter too expensive right?)
