  1. I'd like to help. But realistically, this is the point where you hit CTRL+T or Command+T and search for 'Coilovers for Subaru STI'. Mine is a Galant and yours is an STI. Two very different cars made for two very different purposes. I have no idea about driving characteristics of an STI and at this point, I can't be bothered to find out. Please do your own research and ask your questions after. Sorry if I sound rude. But I just wanted to drive home a point.
  2. Think you better research a little bit more on coilover application before you go ahead. There is indeed selection in Sri Lanka when it comes to coilovers. Cost can be somewhere around 100k LKR. I run a set of Tein colilvers on my Galant. My requirements were a bit different from why people usually install coilovers. I primarily wanted to reduce the massive gap between the body and the wheel. I was thinking of handling improvements only as a secondary advantage. But I can tell you this much. Installing coilovers was probably one of the best decisions I made so far in terms of my Galant. The car handles very good with very low body roll and a lot of other advantages especially on winding roads. My dampening is set exactly half way between hardest and softest settings. It's so much like the stock setting that my wife still don't know that I've got coilovers in my car and we do a lot of road trips. So yeah, it's a very good compromise in my application. But I put about one year's worth of research before I actually pulled the trigger on the coilovers. Why I bought coilovers instead of lowered springs was due to two reasons. I couldn't find lowered springs and matching dampers (Shock absorbers) for the Galant in Sri Lanka. I wanted to have the option of changing my ride height. I was planning on upsizing my wheels+tyres.
  3. Lights, already sorted. I'm on nightbreakers. Next up are indeed brakes. I'm planning on changing wheel hubs from 4 studs to 5 studs before that. That gives me a lot more selection when it comes to parts and wheels.
  4. Oh snap! Think I'm busted now. New shoes are 205/55/16
  5. Now that I can pimp it, want to go lower. As for tint, yeah. Both front and rear glasses are tinted in the same shade. Nothing too dark. Just enough.
  6. Should I lower another inch maybe?
  7. Just mud of course.
  8. OK Guys, Changed the rims and the tyres. So I reckon you guys would want to see a before and after. Here goes. Here's how it looked before. What can I say, ugly AF! Here's now! Got to find the center caps. The rims are Super Advan SA3R version 2.
  9. I did upsize my tyres recently. Earlier it was 195/65/14 and I upsized to 205/55/16. Both are recommended tyre sizes. If I'm not mistaken, these are the two extremes of the recommended range. So far, nothing untoward.
  10. Hey look up airbnb if you haven't done so already.
  11. Will sure keep an eye on any interesting finds.
  12. Well, well, well. What can I say! Congrats mate and welcome to the club! Head over here. https://#####/galantclubofsrilanka/
  13. Interesting case. ISFTA has been in effect since 2000 or so. Most of the Sri Lankan companies don't even know about the ISFTA and what's included in it. But there's a Chinese company in Warakapola that makes CFL bulbs to be sold in India. Do you imagine India will ever let a Chinese company to come directly to India and sell stuff like that? A Sri Lankan guy owns 51% of that bulb company since that's the law in Sri Lanka. Imagine what sort of impact a fully fledged FTA like the ETCA can bring in? Plus, Sri Lanka has better relationships with regional countries like Pakistan and Bangladesh (arguable, I know.) than they do with India. All told, India+Sri Lanka+Pakistan+Bangladesh is home to about 2 Billion people. Imagine the sort of trade we can do if we have proper bi-lateral FTAs with these 3 countries? We can bring in droves of FDI that most Sri Lankans complain but do nothing about. I'm not going to talk about #2. It's just a waste of time and RViji nailed it in his answer. Most people in Sri Lanka are against the ETCA because they don't know what it is. That's the problem with the Government. If the ETCA is freely available to read, then most people who are against it won't even give two hoots about it.
  14. Here's the thing. Free Trade Agreements (FTAs) are a good thing, hands down. If you want an example, look no further than than the European Union. It's an economic union turning out to be more like a Political Union. What most people are looking at on the ETCA is the service aspect. What all of them are not talking about is the trade aspect which is also quite important.
  15. That sir, is a one heck of a classic done really well in competent hands. Hat tip mate. That's a lovely sight for sore eyes.
  16. Oh wow! Another potential Galant Owner! Yay! If you're interested, there's a Petrol, Manual Galant which might be up for sale in a few days.
  17. If I'm to be literal, I read the proposal on my screen. I'm sorry but I can't tell you from where I got it. The proposal reads quite similar to this. But different, obviously. I found the trade negative lists to be concerning. Go here. (Indian list, page 47 / Sri Lankan list, Page 57) As of now, it's too early to say anything. Most people are just seeing storms in their tea cups, especially when it comes to the service aspect of the agreement. Having said that, I really don't see why the Government want to withhold information since it just feeds the trolls to cause havoc among the non-critical thinkers.
  18. I got a chance to read the Indian proposals to the ETCA. Sri Lankan proposals are being done and these will be made available sometime in June-July. If the ETCA come to fruition, it'll take about 2 years to be implemented. The whole thing will not happen overnight. As for the mass hysteria against ETCA, I don't think it's well footed. I hire IT professionals quite regularly and I can't think of a good reason why I want to hire Indian IT guys even if the ETCA comes together. Resettlement cost, hiring logistics issues, cultural and contextual issues are going to be tough to overcome. Plus, even if we hire some Indian IT guys, we'll have to give them good salaries that enables them to manage their lifestyles here in Sri Lanka and send some money home if applicable. In a situation like that, we will be competing with companies in Singapore, US, Australia and companies like Facebook, Google and pletheora of others who have Indian offices. It's a classic case of throwing peanuts and getting monkeys. As for me, I'd rather hire some Sri Lankan guys and mock the Indians while watching a cricket match chugging some beers.
  19. CK2 - Doubt you'd get 8.5kmpl on city traffic. It'll be more like 6-7. But then again I come from the land of traffic, Battaramulla. When not on traffic, does comparatively well on fuel. Around 12-13. Never really cared to measure. But this seems to be the case with whatever the loose calculations I've done to please my hybrid driving brethren. As for spare parts, engine bits and suspension bits can be found. Never really had any issues finding parts in both these regards. Preventive maintenance is what I do. So I plan everything and spend accordingly. IAC, TPS issues with Mitsu cars are well known. Those gremlins are something you'll have to learn to live with. Galant has independent suspension and the car comes alive when you point it at bendy, winding roads. It's just amazing what such a big car can accomplish. (My suspension setup is different. So account for that as well.) I usually keep track of available body parts in case the need arises. Headlights, windscreens are available. I keep track of at least 4 sets of headlights and windscreens. There are at least 2 boot lids and a bonnet available. My Galant is on Tein coilovers meant for Galants and I have an Original Equipment Front Strut brace and a rear spoiler. None of these came with the car when I bought it. So parts can be found. You have to know whom to talk to.
  20. Mommy and daddy are having a fight. We poor children.
  21. Congrats on the new buy mate. The Presea looks mint. Probably better looking than the last one too, if I may add. Also love the anal attention to detail. It's the little things really. Many people don't seem to see value in it.
  22. Then there's this guy.
  23. Please post your price/size combo here. Gonna help someone. http://forum.autolanka.com/topic/8191-tyre-prices/page-11
  24. I too agree with Rumesh. Let's Forget everything except the fact that you'll be spending about 2 million. As correctly pointed out by Rumesh, time value for money alone is a huge factor. Money in your hand today is more valuable than money in your hand after 5 years due to currency depreciation and a multitude of other factors. You're better off making some sort of an investment with the 2 million and use whatever the profit for renting out a vehicle when you're here in Sri Lanka. You don't have to worry about any of the headaches of owning a rarely used vehicle. Don't advocate it but in the eternal words of Jeremy Clarkson, "the fastest car in the world is a rental car".
