Milage Sudenly Droped - Toyota Prius
k9master replied to LAXMAN917576's question in Mechanical problems
Another classic 180 degree turns after some one who knows the subject makes a post (refer below) Then again, I'll not be surprised if Cali finds a way to explain it -
Hmmm... If my guess is correct on this B4, doesn't the owner claim that is maintained at Senok? Senok did everything systematically to bring the car up to the optimum condition after the accident?

oh no we don't think that you have a Prius but surely you must be a Justin Beiber fan... -
Hi Gavindu, A few questions first: 1. What is the year of manufacture of the vehicle? This will tell us which model of the vehicle you have. If you know this, post it straight off. 2. Does this happen every time you start the vehicle or just in cold starts? (i.e.: when you start in the morning after an overnight stop or starting after engine becomes cold) 3. Does the van have an Engine RPM Meter? This should be next to your speedo. If you have one, what RPM does it show after starting and what does it show after the petrol smell goes away? 4. Did you notice an increase of fuel consumption recently? IMO smell of petrol from the Air Filter Chamber should be fine as long as you need to bring your nose closer to the opening to smell it. The moment you remove the Air Filter if the room fills up with petrol smell that's quite an alarming but unlikely situation. Petrol smell in exhaust gases means that your engine is running rich, meaning that it burns more fuel than it's supposed to. Engines running rich for a short time, with every start, usually means that the Fuel Injectors are not in an optimum condition. But this is only valid for an EFI engine. Provide the details and I'm sure that you'll find a solution through this forum. Cheers, K9M

Mate is this a cordless? Most of them operate in 2.4Ghz space so it definitely can be an interference. Then again this will not affect AFAIK the range of your Wifi. Just the throughput / effective bandwidth. I've also found that certain routers drop throughput significantly when Bluetooth devices are around, which again incidentally operate in the same space.
-
Why are you backing out mate? If this becomes a documented & successful experiment on AL you are looking at a massive following. Just browse through and see how many fuel efficiency threads opened here. Surely it will give you the backing to make this a huge commercial success. It even includes a sweet deal on Publicity on National TV? What more do you want? If you are not interested in money, think of the environmental benefits, saving foreign exchange for the motherland from all the fuel imports. Whichever way you look at it you do need publicity. So what crosswind and supra_natural are offering is a golden opportunity. Please let us know if your intention of posting falls on another arena than whats given above. Cheers, K9M

We'll probably will have to make this thread generic for 'Ruined BMWs' guys, its spreading like a virus. Sad... And this guy claims he has dropped a 2.5l engine in it, if its true, I do doubt if these people are skilled enough to do a proper engine M50B25 swap. So this might have a this might have a Toyota engine as well... Cheers, K9M

Yes it definitely is. I use D-Link DAP-1360 has the functions to be a Wifi AP, Client and a Repeater. I use the repeater function of this to extend the 2.4Ghz network throughout the house. Did cost about 5k but was a hassle free option. Do have a 5Ghz network also which returns a very high throughput as there are virtually no interruptions in this space but the range of same is pretty limited compared to 2.4 band. I use this only for video streaming and is perfect for HD content.

Agreed. When the 'Body Shop' opens up the first thing they may realize is that there is a lot of money in the 'Accident Repairs' business than in a painstaking restoration. Unless the guy has a passion to continue on it they'd just start focusing on people who'd come in and say 'Basunnahe, mata meka hondata penna, tak gala karala, insurance ekenuth ganak ithuru karala denna, hari?' (Basically, please fix this quickly, make it look good and save me a couple of bucks from the insurance claim also.). Not bothered about the quality of material used, mandatory wait time between filler to paint & paint to polish etc. So the owner himself requests substandard quick job allowing them to get a better profit quickly vs. Hours and Hours of panel beating for few months for a bigger pay. Then the shop becomes bigger, the bloke will hire a bunch of 'Golayas' who has 0 talent and experience then becomes the boss man removing himself from day to day work resulting the joint to become a pretty worthless place then onwards. By all means its unfair for the guy to be caged and kept but unfortunately that's sort of the only option for a serious restorer.

Hi Gayan, Glad to hear that it worked out. Well what they do AFAIK by repairing the MAF is to re-solder the circuit board. When the MAF is used over a long period of time the vibrations etc. tend to loosen the solder points which increases the resistance within the circuit resulting an incorrect voltage being generated by the MAF. The GA15 ECU is not able to detect this as a fault and uses this value to calculate the fuel to air mixture incorrectly resulting the car to run either rich or lean. Anyways, the reason I didn't recommend the repair was that it has never been a permanent solution for me or a few people I know in the past. symptoms tend to return in a few months or an year tops. Once I replaced the TB things have been ok for over 2.5 years now. You can get hold of a recon throttle body from delkanda area for about 10 - 12k. I honestly don't know if the MAF is available to be bought separately. On a side note, now that you have replaced all the crucial parts I think its better you keep the car unless you are going for an upgrade. You have no idea how many cars are out there which are very poorly maintained. The economy coupled with bad financial management have left a lot of people having no option other than cutting corners in maintenance. So you may end up in a worse situation very easily... Hope this helps. Cheers, K9M

Hi All, Saw the beast parked in KCC Car Park and was indeed a very sad sight. It was worse though to find an admirer of the thing, a van driver who was parked near by saw me having a look at it and told me 'Niyama BMW eka' (a great BMW). Before I started telling him the story he said that this model looks better than those 4 light models so decided to keep the mouth shut. Even when I came back to the car park the car was there so hanged around to see if I could meet the owner but didn't get a chance. Now that there's only a slim chance of this getting a rebirth at least lets wish it a dignified & fast death. Cheers K9M

Hi Gayan, Don't know if I'm correct on this but I have a feeling that its something to do with the Mass Air Flow Sensor. In the FB14 its mounted on to the throttle body and is sealed. How's the fuel consumption? Is it higher than normal? When you pull the plugs out do they have excessive carbon deposits? I think guys at A*W will be able to do a scan on the engine electronics and see if everything is ok. In the Nissan GA15DE engine if the MAF doesn't give the correct voltage it does not show up as an ECU error code but will make havoc in the whole combustion process. I do recommend Mr. Dammika Fernando of cotta road also as a good diagnostician. You can try him out as well. If it turns out to be the MAF, you'd be better of replacing the throttle body as a whole. Advices to break the seal and repair it may work but cannot be sure for how long. Experts, please correct if I have said anything wrong. Hope you will soon come out of this sorrow, been there. Cheers,

Hi S_N, Completely agree with you this definitely is one of the best episodes. I think the S2 has gathered up a lot of maturity and even within the 3 episodes there's a lot of growth. You are more and more natural and animated with each and every show and camera, editing sound. have nicely synched up with your rhythm. All n all very good and really impressed, keep it up. Motorque and Auto-vision is obviously targeted at very different kinds of viewership. Even though for us who actually love cars and who knows about cars it may seem as a pile of cr*p but for the majority it must be 'THE' car program. Honestly even for that market segment, what something like 'Sirasa' with its massive resources does is actually pretty bad and a lot of that attributes to the 'Sunflower' musical show host type presenter who must be thinking that he's doing an awesome job. Result of the unlimited passion and limited resources of you and the team, on the other hand, has produced something super... Cheers, K9M

Hi Guys, Seeking advice for a friend of mine. For some reason (unknown to me and he claims is personal) he can't go to Milroys to get his E36 318i checked out. Car is an Manual which appears to have a misfire. The whole engine (M40B18) is shaking pretty bad in idle. Is there any other good place other than Prestige that he could go to? Or whatever the reason should he suck up and go to Milroys? Cheers, K9M

Doubt the surgery is that simple. It has the rear quarter panels & rear modified to accommodate that ridiculous tail lights and angular boot lid.

Building a Media Centre with Raspberry Pi http://thedigitallifestyle.com/w/index.php/2013/02/05/building-a-media-center-with-a-raspberry-pi/

Wow this is a great idea. Big fan of NES here.
-
Not tried but keen to give it a go. My current media centre is an energy consuming Core2Duo with Windows7 Media Centre. Serves me well but been dying to replace it with a suitable low energy & sleek HTPC. Pi is a very good candidate as there's no point in sticking with Windows as Windows Media Centre is in the dying stage now. Also all the XBMC development on the Pi (Xbian & RaspBMC) it should soon have a full blown media suite. Add-ons like PlayOn Server is capable of bringing Netflix to Pi as I've heard but as Don said it adds to the overall cost. Cheers, K9M

Sony Unveils The Playstation 4

I got mine for 33k in Singapore, 1 1/2 years ago. Warranty was only valid for Singapore which was a risk but decided to go for it. To date that's the best money I have ever spent. Had to walk around a bit to get one at that price though. I don't know the current prices in Singapore but considering shipping & warranty the Chelsea guys have given you a great price IMO. But do check around if these guys generally honour their warranties or just another follower of P* House. Yup, definitely I will split that pair of seats with you. Can I also join to get the stand done? Your dad can bill me the regular price if this is possible. I saw a good design for a stand at the GRID restaurant and snapped a few pics. That also had a G27 mounted to it. hunted a few designs from the net too. We can continue our discussion here http://forum.autolanka.com/topic/12540-sim-racing/?hl=racing Moderators, Since we seem to be hijacking the PS4 thread please move racing simulator related content to Sim Racing thread if you can. Thanks, Cheers, K9M -

Hi Blitz, I have no idea who the agent is now but records show that it has been EPSI some time ago. Don't know if that's still the case. Whoever the agent is I'll guarantee that they will stumped when you ask about the wheel and have no idea what it is. That's what I experienced from various shops that sold gaming gear when I was hunting one here. However, after I bought mine I saw one displayed in 'Red Line' in MC. Never asked for the price though. Check with them and may be they will be able to get one down with warranty. Will it be possible to join with you for buying / building the seat? At the moment I have mine mounted on a small table which is sort of ridiculous. Cheers, K9M -

Dude, if you are keen on racing simulators, at least try to go for the Logitech Driving Force GT then. It should be half the price of a G27. I'm recommending this because of the AMAZING feedback and the realism which is same as the G27 but you'll have to make do without the H Shifter & Clutch Pedal. If its for arcade type racing games which are more popular I think you can settle for something less. Playing things like NFS on G27 is unbelievable boring and almost impossible as the game is designed for unrealistic quick reactions (such as from the keys of a keyboard). Cheers, K9M
