  1. I have driven Mark X quite a few times. Really good car with awesome pulling power, comfortable, good handling, luxury interior, good functions and many more. The fuel consumption not that bad considering it's size and power. For me there are more pros than cons in Mark X. Though spare parts are costly and hard to find out..
  2. I also bought innovex pressure washer from Damro for the same price. To be frank ,the pressure is not that good but manageable for domestic use and motor seems to be very noisy compared to Ingco which my uncle is using for some time. But Innovex is way cheaper than any other pressure washer in the market.
  3. I think comparably Nissan Cefero, Toyota Mark 2 and Sri Lankan made Micro cars like MX7 and Pandas and Mitsubihi Lancers not been affected much by recent price changes
  4. Exactly. Good point mate..
  5. Then better visit to RMV and request the information directly. I think this would be the best thing to do..
  6. I just checked with my RMV android app. It's available. Unfortunately it's showing limited information for free. You could get full information from their web site with a charge. Try to search 8-7520.Hope you will get the full details and proudly own your father's VW.
  7. As Davy pointed out, my guess is there is something related to IACV..Ask your mechanic to clean up the IACV as well.
  8. Have you done any repair like Tappets adjustments recently ? Are you noticing any noise difference of the engine apart from the engine miss?
  9. He would probably use it for few more years I suppose. When want to sell it, the anticlockwise theory will come in to action as it's quite normal in Sri Lankan context. I have seen 121's made in back in 2000 which is almost 16 years old still 100k. and foolish buyers gonna see whether clock is around 100k, teak panels are in good condition and specially whether it's a dicky light and G grade irrespective of condition of it's engine? Conventional petrol vehicle doesn't always mean that it's better than a hybrid and it won't give you any headache. Similarly, If that guy wants to sell off his Prius now, he can easily tamper the ODO and sell it at prevailing market price.
  10. Sorry Double post
  11. I have seen a Prius in Kurunegala (In fact 2nd Generation Prius) 2007 model bought from Japan in 2011 when clock stated 118k kms and now 450k kms after five years. Battery is charging fine and he has only replaced the water pump and shocks for last 5 years. He's a daily long distance runner and really happy with his car and he maintains it on time. Wait for another 1 year and see whether you could see people who have 2nd gen Prius replacing batteries and inverters or not. Still it's too early to predict about this. This was the same situation when auto gears came into market. I think some Sri Lankans would prefer to stay in ancient times without going forward and proudly talking about Ravana's Dandumonaraya.
  12. I neither asked anybody to believe me nor to buy a second hand hybrid. I was just expressing my opinion on the fear people have for the maintenance costs of hybrids. The link you are referring is 1st generation which is very rare in Sri Lankan market. There are lot of places in Colombo or near vicinity who provide services specially for hybrids. I was just saying "Kiyana tharam yaka kalu ne"
  13. I know it's not "the" problem and a combination of few "a" problems. But even if you replace few "a" problems with second hand parts it's still worth when compared to the price paid for the car..I'm talking about second generation Prius approximately 3.2 million. What I meant was there is nothing to panic about replacement costs as hybrids are not strange machines to the market now.
  14. You maybe referring 2 nd generation as 1st Generation. Let's assume that the 2 nd generation Prius manufactured in 2007, the battery is dead in ten years. So 2017 (Next year) the battery will be finished. So what's the problem? Buy a second hand battery which is in good condition and use it for few more years. If the market is already flooded with hybrids, there is nothing to be panic about the age of the car. I have seen first generation prius's still running with the same battery.
  15. I agree with you on this. To add up something to what sathyajithj99 suggested regarding acceleration, I would say Prius 3rd Gen has a better acceleration than Allion A15. I'm not saying this by considering any figure. Just my personal experience as I used Prius 3rd Generation before and presently using Allion A15.
  16. Yes there are air bags. But you have to keep in mind that the latest Starlet you can find in the market is manufactured in 1999. So basically I think the functioning status of the airbags having a bit of a doubt.
  17. Considering a hybrid with a conventional petrol vehicle is not at all a fare comparison, specially your friend is concerned about the fuel consumption. I would prefer Allion over Prius at any time. But as Crosswind clearly pointed out, Allion A18 and FDs don't have much of a difference in terms of fuel figures.
  18. Definitely not worth to buy a Vios for that price. But unfortunately you are not left with many options due to the recent price hike. If the car is in good condition try to negotiate on the price a little bit. Because of this ridiculous price change, some Toyota models like Soluna and Nissan N16 have got an unusual market. One of my friends wanted to sell his Soluna for 14 Lakhs before the price hike but finally ended up selling it for 12.5 Lakhs. After the price hike the guy who took that Soluna immediately sold it for 15.5 Lakhs. that's how the vehicle market behave in Sri Lanka.
  19. 100% agree with you on this. Driving a hybrid is neither luxurious nor pleasurable. But still it saves you some bucks in fuel which you can utilize later to replace the battery.
  20. This is overpriced in my opinion.
  21. I know a guy who tampered the ODO of his Lancer CS1 finally ended up with a higher ODO than his original millage stated.
  22. VVT sensor/ Solenoid is mainly used to improve the performance of the engine while increasing the fuel efficiency. Apart from it's main expectations , it's expected to have a smoothness when idling. Yes your guess was right. VVT solenoid and the OCV is the same thing.
  23. Machan. What a terrible mistake you have done??? One of my good friends sold his Allion 260 recently and he's also in same situation as you. He can't even buy the same Allion 260 for the price he sold it. I think you better wait for some time until this ridiculous fluctuations settle down and go for a newer Lancer EX or a Mazda Axela.
  24. As i said it's my personal view. First of all I felt Audit A4 has better looks and built quality than VW Passat. Engine performance more or less the same despite the fact that they both have engines running with different fuel. Maintenance won't be much of a difference on both cars. I simply choose A4 for the better outer looks and neat interior than VWs. I personally prefer a conventional petrol engine than a diesel one (Even though the diesel one save some bucks for you on fuel ) and of course the better badge.
  25. You really cannot compare VWs with Japanese cars. Japanese car manufacturers are not well known for producing good diesel cars. Regular maintenance cost may not be so expensive as you think since the oil change intervals minimum 10,000 kms..I know a guy who owned VW jetta for many years was changing the oil at 15,000 km intervals. But as you said the spare part prices are very expensive compared to some other euro brands. No doubt about it's comfort and performance but I have a question mark on the reliability factor. Price tags for vehicles in Sri Lanka are unrealistic and unpredictable. I feel 2.2 to 2.4 million would be reasonable for VW Passat TDI 2004. Definitely the spare part prices will be expensive than Mitsubishi Lancers. If i were you, I would have considered Audi A4 2004 as a better choice than VW Passat. Anyway this is my personal view. Do a bit more research not from the internet but from the guys who use it practically. Good Luck.
