Talking more about statistics, any probability less than .05 is universally recognised as 'not significant'. so you r telling me in sri lanka or anywhere in the world finding a person who shorter than 5'2" is very difficult? Take a random sample like my ex girl friends. They all were <5'2". I am gonna sue toyota weather you like it or not. [my car service is coming up, tires are worn and my wife needs a new outfit for a wedding. My objective is for toyota to fund it.

Just thinking out of the box Komi. Shouldn't you be using more doctorly car? I would have few reservations to show myself, my wife or kids to a doctor who comes in a riced up Integra. Just saying and no offence meant.

Toyota [Prius] should be sued for discriminating vertically challenged people!

I admire Kalum for being a gentleman and carrying on what he originally intended to do. Kudos for you man. I don't really care whether you copy it from google or not but end of the day it is interesting to read. We all learn from somewhere and nobody wants to reinvent the wheel. By the way Kalum seems to have hit a nerve here. I wonder why??

Can somebody please tell me a place to buy the canopy thingy at the back. I am looking for a sports canopy or a stylish full canopy. [ with a convexed back glass] What is available at the elcardo is rubbish. By the way I love my cab. No more slowing on pot holes, drive like like a maniac and everybody gives way!

I bought a Hilux, a UK import. 1. Can anybody tell where to get a Sri Lankan Map to go in the Sat Nav please. 2. What is the best place to buy a sports canopy. Thanks

Well, my discussion on the above topic seems to have disappeared! Here is my problem. I paid an advance for a UK imported Cab. As someone pointed out there is obvious rust issue. And the milage is suspiciously low. No service records available. I am having my doubts!!!!. It is obvious that those cabs have gone through a lot. Where as i looked at several cabs at K***gala all imported from Thailand, looks and feels brand new and really eye pleasing. The milage wasn't that low either. The difference between UK imported cabs and thailand ones were couple of lakhs. Now I feels like giving up on my advance and go for a thailand imported Vigo rather than a Invincible. What are your opinions?????

for those who are looking for a cab. Today i visited several places. In one place all were imported from the UK. All the the cabs were heavily used. I know being in the UK for a long time cabs are bought buy builders and bound to be heavily used. I also visited other places where the cabs were imported from Taiwan, they were immaculate. Like in Sri Lanka I think cabs are used in Taiwan like cars! So the general consensus is that don't buy UK cabs because of the rust issue. I think it is the heavy usage! I dont really buy in to this rust issue. For all the years I spent in the UK my cars never got an under carriage wash. They just don't do it. The services by agents does not include any washing. Only wash you get is from Eastern European migrants who just give a body wash for 3£. Never a uner carriage wash. Nobody even mentions rust issues.

can somebody give me the current price for a 2.5l hilux, imported for a permit, 2008, allegedly driven only 8000km? With a canopy.

Can somebody enlighten me about toyota cabs. I am confused now with various opinions form various people. What is the best cab in terms of, a) Vigo or Non Vigo [very conflicting views] Imported from England or Thailand [rusting issue with UK ones apparently, but cars in UK never get the under carriage washed unlike in sri lanka, is this really true?] c) 3L or 2.5L d) Manual or Auto [ Personal preference I know but what do you think] c) Do I need to change my driving license? [only light vehicles at the moment] d) Is there a luxury tax involved? When you dont have money you know exactly what to buy. But when you have the money it is really difficult to choose what to buy!

I am on the look out for a new car. I hate to buy Allions and Premios because everybody seems to be having one. On searching the AL there are quite a few good Audi's for sale for a very reasonable price. I know the market in sri lanka is different but they are very classy and dependable in UK. Will I be in serious trouble if I by one? If I buy I'll be going for a diesel A6. I am planning to get a driver as well. At the moment my preferences are like this. 1. Hyundai Santa Fe, diesel, 4WD, 7 seater, 2007-2008 2. Montero sport 2007-2008 3. Audi A6, Diesel or probably A4 petrol 4. Or get a Nissan N16 and keep the money in the bank. I won't be driving anyway [mostly] I can go up to 5 - 5.5Mil cash. PS. I usually fly to UK several times a year. Will that help if I buy an Audi so that I could bring any spares myself? Your expert opinions are welcome. All my friends seems to know only about Allions and Premios.

My friend wants to sell his 2008 deisel santafe for 5 million. I am not sure and need your valuble opinion. Is it a good vehicle? Is it worth the price? I know it is being used carefully. Thanks for your advice.

I think there is no question as to wether it will run or not. It will run. During the war all the deisel vehicles in jaffna as well as generators were run entirely on cocconut oil. Question is , will it run trouble free. The basic diesel engine will have no trouble. But the modern common rails! I think no.

In UK near my home there was a bio diesel selling place. I have seen loads of taxi drivers using it. Me, like a fool filled my Volvo S80 with bio diesel. Went to London and came back, no problem. But on the third day the engine stalled and I had to call the AA. The whole fuel system had to be cleaned and the car never recovered to the state where it was before. On the fifth day after after calling the AA for the second time I had enough. I just sold the car and bought a new one. It works well on older generation diesel engines. You can use vegetable oil straight away. People are interested in biodiesel not for economic benefit, but for its environmental friendliness.

I owe one, bought a few months ago as a temporary car. A Refina, H series. I am quite happy with it. Comfortable, stable. Good on fuel. I could do 400 km for rs4000 outstations, before the fuel price increase. Value for money. I can reverse in to trees, won't slow down on potholes, leave it in the sun but it still serves me faithfully. Looks good as well. Several people infact asked me weather I am selling. If you find a good specimen definite value for money.

Is it still worth buying a diesel with high import and maintenance costs?

Any Luxury Mini-Trucks I Can Import?
knightowl replied to yasas_bandara's topic in General Automotive
Since when the trucks were luxury? Especially D*MO Batta size? -
Not hijacking the thread. Apologies. I am a parker fan myself. Brought down loads of Quink black ink cartridges to sri Lanka. But within couple of weeks all my writings changes in to pale brown. Any other black ink you guys suggest that do not fade?

Sorry for delay in replying. Its an Iphone 3gs. I already have google in it. Was unlocked in Sri Lanka so runs on an old software version. Cant update the software because it will be locked again. . However it locks on to sats within seconds in England, even inside the house. Changing to an Android probably is a good idea but all my gadgets are apple. Kind of hooked to them. My only wife is in England. Thinking of finding an extra one in Rajarata ; )

Oh for God's sake, just by a gas canister. Just invert it fix on to the lighters nipple and press! I dont know where to by in Sri Lanka but it is available.

[in your scenario , you might have gone out of your carrier's coverage area since it is Anuradhapura. ] What did you mean by the carrier? in my case Mobitel? I figured it is something to do with satellites because even on google maps it fails to indicate my location accurately. Where as in UK it pin point where I am within a margin of 2 meters. When i used Endomomndo in England it even shows wether i am riding on left or right side of the road. I am a bit unhappy because I have lost out to my friends in various parts of the world [our little competitions and challenges on miles and speed] especially to a house wife in Seattle We were doing 30 miles a day with an average speed of 18mph. I was leading by a fraction. I thought of buying a Garmin but afraid the problem will persist. Like This Quote MultiQuote

Endomondo is a global app. Works pretty much everywhere provided there is good satellite cover. I also tried Cyclestreet. same result. Yes, I am near high security area, but it shouldn't be a problem because I put the phone in my pocket. Even when I come back it is still searching for satellites. Cycling in Anuradhapura is fantastic. Most roads are carpeted and not much traffic. [believe me, much better than English roads] All the vehicles respect the cyclists giving adequate space. Probably due to two reasons. 1. When you look professional [ good bike, helmets, gloves, quality lycra] 2.. Most of the professional bikers in this area belongs to armed forces. Cycling is the new Golf in developed countries. Do a search, you are missing it.

I recently settled down in Anurdhapura,Sri Lanka. As I am an enthusiastic cyclist i brought my road bike with me [took 13kg of my baggage allowance]. In England I used 'Endomondo' a cycling app with GPS [in Iphone] which accurately tell you the speed, time duration, calories burnt, map of your journey as well as the ability to compete with your friends all over the world. It automatically uploads data to the internet. A wonderful way of keeping track of your performance. Here is the problem. The phone does not engage with the satellites. Its always on 'searching for satellites' mode. When I switch on the Google Maps the 'positioning dot' keeps switching between somewhere near 'Ritigala' and Anurdhapura airport. Nowhere near where I am! Is it because there are not enough satellites in the area, so the phone simply cannot calculate where it is? Any remedies [other than sending a satellite to the orbit]? Expert hep is much appreciated.
