  1. Thanks... Actually the previous Grand Cherokee is equally bad as the Montero Sport, probably worse given the very hard leather seats. But maybe the new 2011 one has been improved a lot, it also looks much nicer. Btw are you attached to Lankem ?
  2. Here the 95 is not exactly 95 and the 90 also could be less, and if it says 91 and above why go with 90 ? .... although there is no noise or knocking the engine should perform at its best on 95. why you want to save a few rupees.... ?
  3. What about the Montero Sport ? Do you have any idea on the new price ?
  4. This micro Panda is assembled here right ? .... but there are much more Maruti's and Altos's sold than the local product. Which means its much cheaper to make these in India even to compensate for the high duty rates, or it could be that the Govt is not offering the Micro a better concession. ?
  5. Thanks for the clarification... must watch the above vids at home , this office line is rather slow.....
  6. Talking about Nissan... saw that A*W is going to launch the new Nissan Sunny.... I think it looks equally bad as the Tiida... what the hell does Tiida mean ??? These Japanese guys really should recruit some good marketing people to come up with some innovative car names.
  7. Didnt you say you replaced only your Right side pad ? Usually you need to replace the set at the same time and after fixing chek if it rotates freely. It could also be that your disk on one side is worn out too much,or could be any number of things from brake booster to caliper problem so you should get the entire brake system checked, but I don't know of any specialized garage which has expertise in this area.. This may not be due to your ABS, if any ABS fault the light will come on, unless someone has not tampered with it before.
  8. So is this the main reason for the better fuel efficiency of the Fiat punto ?
  9. I have never seen this new site....
  10. Why do I get this funny feeling we have had a similar discussion before...... Anyway there are plenty of vehicles for 3.8 Million, like Watchman has mentioned a lot will depend on what you plan to use the vehicle for ( eg: school run, marketing, recreational etc... plus your own driving style/skill. I know a lot of girls prefer a taller vehicle for better visibility. The other main thing is ease of parking. The Terios or the Rush is pretty good and you could get a well maintained one under Rs 4 Million. The Jimny is also very good and ideally suits a lady.
  11. Fuel efficiency is a relative term, since you are anyway looking for a manual it should do better on fuel and a lot will depend on how you drive it. Pretty much any manual Nissan ( FB 14 or N 16 ) could do 8 to 10 KMPL, and dont get carried away by people quoting much better numbers. The second issue of finding a good condition car is more difficult, most cars will have done a lot of millage and might have several owners. You may have cars with lot of millage but which have been maintained well, on the other side you could get ones where the millage has been adjusted. Since you say you have little idea on a car one of the best ways to buy a good car in my view is to buy it from a respectable guy. When u go to see the car check what type of person owned it, you will be amazed as to how much the personality of the guy reflects in the car. Try to avoid car sales. If you finally decide on a particular car, try and take a known garage guy to inspect it and do a test drive to see if things are ok. Try to get a car with a proper maintenance record file,
  12. Hey.. Maduranga, Any car in my opinion is fun to drive... I have had some super fun driving a Maruti Zen, its all about taking a car to its limits, and when its a car like a Vitz or a small car like a Maruti is actually more fun as you can go right to the edge without too much of a issue. Its your car, love what you drive and drive what you love man...! Life is too short to worry about what others have to say about your car.
  13. Just be careful when you deal with some of these guys at A*W, they are at times very friendly and are more than willing to help a customer out by buying it outside at much lower cost than from their own store... this type of side business is fine, but just watch out that you don't get played. If the pad is good chances are it will be expensive. Thanks, having used it from now 3 or 4 months there is hardly any noise now.
  14. Hey Varunatech.. I know this road its the road leading up to Non Peril estate in ohiya... its got many hair pin bends and sheer cliffs. I have been on this twice, took a Kia sportage up there in record time, it was a manual and it was super fun. You need to have a small SUV else it can be very dangerous. However I never used the my left foot to brake... If anyone is passing this area just take this road.. you get some beautiful scenery...
  15. Its Toyota...
  16. I have seen a few Demio sport versions advertised recently, I think it was still under Rs 4 Mn, then you got the Swift sport also in your price range. However I have not come across any Vitz RS versions of the new model. If you are going to spend Rs 4 million you might as well spend it on something where you will enjoy the drive. But if your main idea here is the investment or resale value DONT buy a un-reg car. The moment you register it the value will drop by couple of hundred thousands. So best is to get a very recently registered car and you will not loose that much when you try to sell.
  17. If you are trying to press the brake there is no reason to have your foot on the accelerator.... so using the right foot is the most logical thing to do. But if you are trying to do burnouts that's a different question...
  18. No petrol smell..
  19. No, Maxxis is in the mid range, lower than Dunlop, Goodyear, Yokohama etc.. But bit more expensive than the other cheaper ones like Kenda CEAT etc... That thread pattern looks almost identical to the Goodyear Eagle F1 tyre . The V design will take out the water much faster, so should be quite good in the rain. But one downside is its a directional design/tyre so you will be slightly restricted when you swap tyres after sometime..
  20. Well, that's the exact same thing I asked this guy surely he should have felt something was wrong, but he insists the car was acting normal until the point of total meltdown ! The poor V8 would have been doing its best and kept on firing, so it would not have been that noticeable like on a 4 cylinder maybe ? Anyway this guy was a little above me in the organization hierarchy so cannot be too rude... Most of the engine parts had be be flown down from the US and that all dded to the cost...
  21. Machang.... basically every tyre agent has a retail price list. This price list is common to all tyre shops selling their tyres. The way this price list is structured is in a way to give the retail shop a margin of approximately 35% ( Price diff between retail price Vs wholesale price) . But each tyre shop will decide how much they want to keep as margin, so if you go to any tyre shop the buggers will pull out the price list and calculate something on a calculator and give you a price. The same thing when you go to buy Dulux paint from a hardware shop. What I mentioned above was actually on the Goodyear Eagle F1. But check out the Maxxis site, I think they stock this size. I would actually rank Maxxis in par with the big brands and much better than the GT.. http://www.maxxistires.lk/
  22. I had a very similar experience myself, this was on a Grand Vitara, the hum was very faint and gradually went away after sometime. It was quite annoying as I simply couldn't pin point from where it was coming from. The sound faded away on its own and I never experienced it again...
  23. A 24% discount is not a great deal in the tyre trade.. usually retail tyre shop guys can stretch the discount up to 30% for most brands. So would be good if you do shop around. Secondly the reviews can vary since Good year is made in Germany as well as Thailand but I am not sure if there is a plant in Indonesia. I have had a pair of Goodyear made in Germany and a set made in Thailand and the thread wear in the Thailand set was very poor, while the German one lasted much longer. I am not sure why this is the case since most rubber originates from Thailand, but maybe the rubber compound used is different from plant to plant. So just check the country , its written on the side of the tyre very clearly. Also I had many occasions where there were punctures, could be due to the softer compound, which can be very frustrating... Currently using Dunlop Sport Maxx.. almost one year of using no puncture yet...
  24. Almost 2 years now... Rs 2 Mn loan, installment is something like 45k. If the loan is over Rs 1Mn they upgrade you to something called advance and give you 0.5% lower than the normal rate.
  25. Got it ! thanks.... The reason I asked this is, there was this incident which kind of baffled me. There was this Jeep ( Grad Cherokee) V8 and for some reason there had been a leak in the cooling system and all the water had gone off. The guy driving it had continued driving till the engine completely went bust..! This guys explanation was that the temp gauge did not show any increase and was at the normal level. He went on to say that since the temp gauge checks the temp of the water and in this case since there was no water it did not give a correct reading... End of it all the V8 had to be rebuilt which cost the company close to Rs 1 Mn at D*IMO's....
