  1. interval is 5000km or 6 months which comes first. use Mobil delvac 15w40 or Castrol RX 15W40. I don't belive in caltex branded oils.
  2. scales of interests and tastes are different from person to person.... So i won't comment about the likes and dislikes of the OP.. As per answering the question... Yes you can fit daytime running lights... Two options... 1-buy the OEM Headlights for the later model, so it would be easy swap, same wiring harness can be used, so you've just to plug the socket.eventhough if plug is missing in your one, wiring is an easy task.mind you it'll set off some bucks . 2-you can fix locally sourced set or one imported throug E bay.it won't be a such huge task. And as a footnote, it won't give much of a use in view of safety, but will add some cosmetics to the car. Because lot of fuss about safety here, Yes, it will not help you in sri lankan conditions.but if it's capable of preventing a single collision, i don't have an argument.
  3. since you're concern about space, i can suggest two toyotas within the bracket. Corolla 108 wagon and caldina. I suggest caldina as value for money, spares are ample, any mechanic can fix the both.and it comes as a diesel variant which if you do reasonable running.
  4. de silva motors , kirulapana.... To pinpoint the place, you take the road which is opposite to baseline road , where baseline road drains to highlevel road at kirulapona. As you go about 100meters along the road the place is on your right hand side...
  5. to start with, worn out engine is not the first thing to start with... The beauty of the diesel engine is it starts always somehow, NO spark plug nonsense, it starts if it's not nearly dead. And to start just change your heat plugs with good brand and see for improvements. Try pumping the hand pump manually in cold start, if it's getting hard after several pumps, it's the failed hand pump. Then check for visible oil burning, you'll notice a white smoke from the exhaust and significant oil burning in engine.in numbers it's about 500ml or more for each 1000km.pulling power will fall drastically and you'll emit smoke in massive scale when you put your foot down. Engine overhaul is the last resort which i think last. To be precise toyota 2C is the most easy to overhaul in sri lanka. Just find a decent small mechanic. dismantle it into pieces. Replace pistons(alpine). Re bore at reputed place(edirisinghe,D*MO) replace all rings(toyota OEM)., replace oil and water pump(Asin), service injector pump, replace all injectors (denso), drain cooling system and clean and refill coolent. Replace the timing belt(toyota original),and all oil seals and water jackets. Remove the alternator and service it, just general service. Check for engine mounts and replace all if needed (RBI). If you need you can fully service the AC system at this moment. Replace all filters, VIC Is best but Sakura would do. Use mobil delvac 15w40 or Castrol rx 15w40 to refill. (Delo is cow dung mixed with pig urine and which is used by idiots). Start the engine in and run for day or so... Do proper running in period... You have an engine now which is capable of another 150k miles for sure . For complete it would cost about 10-15k for labour and you source parts so total would be less than 120k.done it last year december in my mother's car....
  6. wake up dude .settle your mind.you're way too shaky here, with all your priorities, i guess you're driving the correct one. Just forget about buying a new one, it's simply jumping 2 years forward for nothing... And if it looks. Axela, lancer ex, civic , corolla. Resell value, corolla, lancer=civic=axella, durability, corolla=lancer=civic=axela. Fuel economy, corolla, civic=lancer=axella, if it's my money, axella, lancer , civic , (corolla ommited) if it's average saram mudalali, just COROLLA...
  7. i tried using reputed brand, like exide or laughs..... And you can always check the quality by checking the electrical conductivity through water. If it conducts electricity , it has ions in it.... Also, you can make your own by turning steam back into water using a condenser.the same technique is used buy the illicit alcohol makers.
  8. oooh.... This condition is similar to obsessive compulsive disorder....... Let the OP decide to clarify his query... To be more precise, he doesn't need brand comparison, so you've an option of shutting your mouth off...
  9. How come this honda thing came here ? What are the proofs? Sources ? Researches ? Our family had a mazda from 1989 to 2010 (yes 21 years)and i must say it's a rock solid car averages with any japanese make. For information of your small world, all japanese cars have to undergo japanese production quality standards and which doesn't favour any brand.it has specifications from guage thickness of body panels to depth of tyre thread. I don't say honda is bad. Simply you can't compare aspects like reliability without proper standard research....
  10. yes i'm the one who called them... Small world right :) . They couldn't find it at the moment.let me know by any chance you trace it. By the way, found hundreds of samples form models of 2 and 3 above pictures.the one i need is the one which is difficult to trace.. Anyway in case of failure, i thought of going with specimen model 2 above, which is identical in dimensions except the cosmetic difference.
  11. thanks mate, it would be great if you can. Yes machan, doing internship in downsouth, you know the situation:). Anyway i found a specimen of middle picture model.mechanic say it's nice than original one. Didn't get a chance to see in real though.
  12. fixing old parts is not an option because better half has reversed it to a wall .it would be great if you can help on this matter.
  13. Called all three places as i remember, they haven't got the one i'm looking for, have got the basic trim level only.
  14. Need to source a body part for CALDINA. Need the back door(tailgate ) for toyota caldina.found several specimens but those were not the trim level i was looking for, searching for the back door for CZ-Turbo trim level and which is little rare to find. at the moment i'm away from colombo and have limitations of time for give a search in Delakanda strip due to my job, so thought of calling and sourcing the part and send somebody to collect it. Can anybody give me a clue , where can i find this, or please be kind enough to share few contacts of body parts shops anywhere. This is the back door model i'm looking for, not this two models,(notice the square shape tailgate light, long door handle ,light design colour difference, and larger grill for number plate ) and basic model too. thanks
  15. isn't it so easy to say that it costs somewhere around 1000- 2500Rs, (approximately), it might be his first car and first service.
  16. it does the similar job of engine mounts. . . Bomb blast generates a huge vibration wave, which can cause the vibration of jaws, upper jaw can vibrate on the lower jaw and teeth Can break due to this .so they hold a piece of rubber or wood to prevent above happening.
  17. what the heak is this... As supra's review of insight, it says that group of engineers from Honda japan stayed at sri lanka to study the conditions here to adjust the suitability of insight..WTF They've done then ? Yes , found that it gets the air intake by an intake vent behind the passenger seat in the cabin, but cooling is done by a fan , which kicks in at about 100C. So in theory, the cooling affected by the cabin temperature, yes it efficient when AC Is cool.... Feel that in near future, there will be advertisements on HIT*D Saying, intercoolers will be fitted to insight for long life of battery for cheap 60k rupee.
  18. it should be interesting , can you share the method . . . !
  19. According to what my one says. They find prius and insight as nice car brand call "HYBRID". With your budget, i assume you can go for demio instead of vitz , it's cute looking in their book. And peugeot 308 , yes i've seen few on your reach. Sedans, they don't find it handy by the additionl boot always a problem for them when reversing.so a good looking hatch will does the job. Vitz is used by all sort of el-chepos so i don't think that it'll give any personal feeling rather than a work horse, and don't forget the automatic gearbox one with reverse sensor or camera.they are musts. :) . Also the best thing is just randomly show and ask her "is that car nice?" when you drive. So you can get a rough idea :)
  20. depends on what they offer with the package... If it's just boring and pistons, i'll ask them to F-off. If it's injector pump overhaul, water pump , oil pump , belts , seals , bearings ,and assemble filters with oil , labour , VAT , All sort of taxes.. Yes go for it.... What you've to realize is , when engine comes to the end of the life the other associated components also has done their job, they might be pretty tired by now and can die at any given moment. . . ! Unless you've a plan to sell it with a tag saying , "RECENTLY OVERHAUL ENGINE.", get the full thing done. Will say if your oil pump refuse to work after one month of your overhaul, Yes, you've to open the damn thing again, refill oil, new sealents, labour , hastle, time waste , and cost about another 20-25k.. In my case , the OEM(ASIN) pump was about 7k.
  21. engine overhaul is a place where most of the customers screw big time. To start with , 1-replace the oil pump and water pump. 2-drain the cooling system and clean it refill and check for leaks. 3-have to sleeve or bore, your engine core , i personally prefer boring since i've NO much faith on aftermarket sleeves. 4-new piston ring set and pistons (alpine -if i remember correct) if needed. 5-change all belts , oil seals , worn out bearings. 6- dismantle the engine in a decent garage and do the reboring at reputed place like ediri/D*MO. 7-overhaul the injector pump. 8-check for engine mounts, replace if needed. 9-attend to hoses and replace if needed. Cost would be 150k around witty parts i guess. 400k=MADNESS at any level
  22. and 120 road , upto piliyandala, have about 5-6 places. Prices i found sometimes cheaper than delkanda strip...
  23. here it is ... don't know about speedometer thing,to be honest i've never been in discovery 4.
  24. think my explanation wasn't clear to you. Get the facts straight - NO PUSHING needed here. As you drive , you go through actual substance, faster you go the more thickness the substance become. Thicker the substance , engine needs more energy to go through. A-- In stable air , if you travel by 50Kmph. Your RELATIVE SPEED WITH AIR is 50KMPH. B-- If air travelling at 20KMPH to your driving direction , your relative speed with air is 50-20 is 30KMPH. C-- If you're travelling against that wind , now your relative speed is 50+20 is 70Kmph. So when vehicle speedometer shows 50kmph at guage , you have three different thicknesses of actual substance which pass through you. Let's say 20hp is needed to overcome each 10kmph wind resistance , A-B-C needs 100,60,140 horse powers respectively. So say, a car with 140HP Can reach three different top speeds on above Three conditions. Is that clear enough for you ? So now you should take it seriously. If still you can't, Ok i assume you've Some serious IQ Than us .
  25. puh....new physicis here. When we're travelling in a car , it's like we're travelling through a fluid(yes , air is a fluid). When we go faster , the amount of fluid passes through is increased, so in each second the vehicle has to do more work to overcome that wind resistance. If the vehicle also travelling at the same direction of wind, the relative speed of two is low. That means vehicle dives through low volume of air in unit time. The remaining energy can be used to further increasing of speed. So it doesn't matter the speed of wind, it can affect the vehicle's top speed. Yes if it's blow faster, the advantage is more, if slow the advantage is minimum. This is the reason why , record book needs driving to 2 opposite directions when placing speed records.. In more simple language, if your car has 100kmph max speed, (calibration done under zero wind speed conditions at factory). If wind blows on 20kmph to direction you drive, you probably exceed 110kmph, or if it's opposing to your drive , you may never reach their said 100kmph. Simple physics...
