  1. No discrimination, but with my humble 10 years professional work experience, it's hard to belive a scientist would write in this manner. These are the traits that reflects the quality and the background of the writer.
  2. I'm missing the Tree Huggers!. Why did you keep away hybrids Amila? Naughty Boy!!!!
  3. What about Chevy? Can remember Mag City paper add stating a Chevy sedan doing more than 15 KM/L.
  4. Since I have a feeling than not a single decision maker in the Government is in this forum, shall we call it a day?
  5. Well that we have to wait for a very looong time for that day! Any way for valuations, isn't Automobile Association better than De Silva?
  6. Well, didn't mean to argue or hurt anyones feelings. I rather call it constructive critisism. Those were just my opinion. Any way enjoy your new ride!
  7. (1) So why do you support the system by purchasing a Permit from a third party? (errespective of a politician or not) (2) I wonder if you have heard a qualification by the name of CFA.
  8. What I mean? Simple... I can't stand people selling permits & government issuing permits specially to politicians & other officials who does nothing but ruin the country. (I keep Doctors away from this list) And they try to make a living out of it by selling the given permit. It much better if they continue to issue the Tax payers permit since I feel it's much more worth while.
  9. Exactly. Good that you are aware of it.
  10. Shows the quality of the people who are eligible for permits & who wants to buy them.......
  11. If the vehicle meets with an accident & if you want to repair it in a garage apart from the Agent you have to pay some amount in Advance right? So under who's name will the insurance company issue the Cheque? Suppose the vehilcle is in a condemn state under who's name will the cheque be drawn by the Insurance Company?
  12. nadisha, What's the model? (EP 82 or EP91) Milage? Asking Price? Auto or Manual?
  13. Well mate, May God Bless you when you try to do insurance claims for your new vehicle if bought trough a permit which belongs to another person. (Touch wood though!) I assume you must have paid 1 Mil to get hold of the permit. Any way we have discussed about permits for foreign employees numerous times in this forum.
  14. Rehana, HSBC does not ask for down payments. If your loan is approved for 2 Mil, you can purchase a vehicle for the whole amount. But afaik, in leasing you have to make a down payment & the vehicle registration will carry the name of the leasing company. Forgot to mention that HSBC offers car loans not leasing.
  15. Nalin, I have seen these kind of posts several times, but stayed back without commenting on those thinking it's a waste of time. But any ways today for some reason I felt replying after seeing your comments. By August 2011 (if I'm not mistaken) the Import & Export Department started to issue these gift permits again. By the time I got ready with all the documents & visited their office they stated that they have stopped it the Day before I went. In fact my father is working abroad & he wanted me to issue this Permit. He has remmited funds accordingly. (And we are even OK to hold those funds as a guarantee in FCY until the permit expires) My point is that the main source of the Government now receiving foreign currency (apart from the IMF loan) is trough Foreign workers & not trough exports. Sorry to say that officials treat foreign employees as peices of sh*t. They issue permits to ministers & other officials who does nothing but ruin the country. And most of those idiots go & sell their Permit. I get to see my father once a year & he works hard for his salary. At least Mr. Kabral should feel a bit for people like us for making sacrifices as such. (Now I have to satisfy myself with a 10 year old car to go to work)
  16. Don, I agree with you 100% Fuel effiency mainly depends with ones driving style. I use my Starlet as the daily car & get around 12 -13KM per liter (not city driving) & this is with a relaxed driving style. But if I'm late for a meeting which is held in Colombo, I tend to be a bit aggressive & I have noticed it does 10 -11 KM at those times. My uncle in the other hand is a relaxed & calm driver. He gave me those figures by seeing in the Fuel consumption gauage installed in the dash board.
  17. It's a comfortable car to go in. Resale value will depreciate because of the way SL car market has build the midset of Korean cars.
  18. Don, I fired a couple of calls to sellers who have advertised on Lahi*ita this Sunday. And every one is giving fairy tale fuel figures. 14 to 15 KM per liter which is toatly unacceptable since my uncle is using a 2008 model & as per him he gets 8 to 9KM max. One person even called me today morning to ask whether I'm gonna come to have a look at his car. Intial asking price was 2.3 Mil & now he quotes 2.1 Mil while he being the third owner. The beetle model is not good on fuel compared to the Jeep model Swift.
  19. My Bad! Production of the 2nd generation swift (beetle) started from 2004.
  20. Gayan, Beetle model was maufactured from 2005 isn't it?
  21. Calli, At any part of your life were you in the US? So now you have a user name of Calliforni, as if you were living in California before you were depoted back to Sri Lanka?
  22. CW, Yes I have seen how you have highly recomended Chey Cruze in forums. Neither I get a fuel allowance man, and I'll be selling both my EG8 & Starlet very soon & planning to buy a Chevy or a Swift. Main reason I'm doing this is because to finance my higher studies. And I will have to give up my idea of re-building my EG8.
  23. "Notable memories from the past: Chevy Cruze 2004, Fiat Grande Punto 2008, Proton Impian CamPro 2007, Austin Mini MkIV 1981" Crosswind, Just noted that you have sold your Chevy. Any perticular reason? Bad on fuel?
  24. Crosswind is correct. Compared to Accent's (made in the same era) Rio is much comfortable. Only draw back is the fuel figures.
