Authorities in Sri Lanka should establish a system for recycling EV and Hybrid batteries. as these batteries consist of toxic stuff that can cause harm to our environment . Work still needs to be done to making EV's and hybrids really environmentally friendly to Sri Lanka. "Hybrid" Good point The Don

This triggered a story in my mind. once when my Dad was driving a motorbike he saw a line of broken wheel nuts on the road and 15m in front was a loud bang the wheel of a Leyland lorry that was driving fast on the road had come out. Many people were excited and came to help. It was a break bound issue as the friction produced immense heat that heated the rim and hub, cracking the wheel nuts off by expansion leading the wheel to fly off. many experienced skin burns after touching the very hot wheel rim and wheel nuts that had fallen along the road. I think you are very lucky. recently I changed my wheel cylinders on my test drive I touched and inspected my steel rims for any heat to identify and friction by unwanted rub. In any situation if you hear any strange sounds coming from your wheel the first thing to do is to touch and check for heat on rims to identify any friction before going ahead. I hope you find a good honest mechanic who can fix it all up. Take care

I think all Leafs owners should have a small portable petrol generator in the car especially when travelling long distances. You can charge the car at a stop for lunch or tea at any rural location . also be aware of the common thief when charging. .

I wonder where to buy a turkey baster in Sri Lanka? I used a large injection syringe 50ml or something to draw out air from the line. I did washed the injection syringe with water soon before the break fluid dissolved the thing.

Wow Davy, nice job . 4 days ago I restored my steel rims. I just used oil primer and sprayed with TOA Flat Black. Removing rust and crud is the toughest. You got a good steady hand there. keep up the good work

Engine Produce Sound After Engine Oil Change To Different Grade
Splat replied to buddikat's question in Mechanical problems
Oh.. dear, Please don't feel worried. Think positive and I'm sure some one will be able to help you out . The distance between the piston and the cylinder wall is called " piston to cylinder wall clearance " What I know is that engines that are still new have a very very small gap between the piston ring and the piston sleeve (cylinder wall) as they have not got wasted yet [ the gap is in micrometers ] . so a low viscosity (thin) oil is able to spread through the small gap to reduce friction (lubrication). as time passes due to ware and tare the gap increases so a thicker oil is used. after years and years and putting on km's but you have a long long long way to go for that . Flushing engine oil is not a good idea as the detergent's may cause problems with gaskets and seals so please be cautious.- 17 replies

I could not upload these before as something went wrong. so here's pic B and C of the LD20-ii Turbo silencer manifold with the triangular shaped flange and the single pipe (related to pic A above). I hope these pitchers help. tc

How To Slow Down Led Turn Signal Blinking Rate (Hyper Flash)
Splat replied to Splat's question in Electrical problems
Ah... I almost forgot, Yes !!!!!! LED bulbs for automotive upgrades are available in Sri Lanka. You can try 1st Cross Street in Pettah and also at Panchikawatta Colombo 10. I found that the LED bulbs at Panchikawatta were affordable in price. -
How To Slow Down Led Turn Signal Blinking Rate (Hyper Flash)
Splat replied to Splat's question in Electrical problems
Hello, Sorry for my late response. I found a solution but I need to experiment on this and be sure. What I learnt is that the old vehicles use a thermal flasher. A thermal flasher system uses a change in temperature that's converted to a mechanical displacement using two types metal strips also called "bimetallic strip" this switch system is used in our Mothers clothing iron's and rice cookers How ever the modern cars use Flasher relays that consist of transistors and electronic IC's. These flasher relays have a warning system that show the driver if a bulb is fused. a fast flashing visual ( around 3-4 blinks per second) also called "hyper flash" This is a safety mechanism indication. So if a LED upgrade is don to a car with this flash relay due to the low power consumption of the LED's, the flasher relay is tricked that there is fused bulb that needs to be changed that results in a hyper flash (fast flash). -
Hi, Providentially the engine mounts of the two engines are of the same . Regarding the exhaust manifolds; the Normal LD20-ii has a "Y" shaped silencer manifold (Pic 2 and 3). The Turbo version of the LD20-ii has a single pipe manifold with a triangular flange. (Pic 1). Please don't forget to ask your engine supplier for the silencer manifold and the iron nuts that too should also be provided with the engine (in case the originals are damaged or as a future spare.....). The silencer manifold swap job is not a serious one as a good welder would take just a few minutes. Go for the turbo as the Turbo engine sucks in more air that's what makes it fuel efficient. Good luck with the swap and please do keep us informed.

How To Slow Down Led Turn Signal Blinking Rate (Hyper Flash)
Splat posted a question in Electrical problems
If you upgrade your turn signals from normal bulb to LED would the blinking rate increase? and if so what measures to take to slow down the blinking rate down to normal? -
I agree thanks for the input. and yes, cars are not meant to run forever. God is infinite and man is finite. Thank you once again

As time pass even distilled water alone can contract iron particles. so its better to use distilled water with a radiator anti-rust & water pump lube additive. eg- http://www.amazon.com/Motor-Gunk-C1012-Radiator-Anti-Rust/dp/B000ABG9T0
